this was well done, nice use of the theme with the visual aspect. i would have liked to fight other enemies besides the boss, but the attack patterns made the gameplay interesting so that's alright. a nitpick is i would have liked some sort of immediate feedback when the player is hit.
Love the character design! I liked the boss patterns but I felt like the boss had waaay too much health and the character felt a bit floaty at times for me. Other than that, good work!
Cool melee based bullet hell, I like the spritework of the player character.
When the boss shields itself and starts doing some funky bullet patterns, that's where I started having most fun, despite not being able to hit it (unless I'm missing some kind of mechanic)
Great work on the game :)
Thank you for the feedback!
Yeah the boss can't be hit during the invincibility.
Really liked the sprite and animation of the main character!
The chromatic aberration effect makes me feel very disoriented. And I would've preferred if movement was a little bit snappier with less slide, but that's just my taste.
Also, it's great to see games made with bevy out in the wild! Great job on making the game, it was very fun to play, and it looks really good!
Thank you for playing!
Yeah I saw some people having trouble with the aberration, I mean the intention was to make it harder but if i update it I will probably add a setting to turn it down or off.
I won!
I'm not a crab but I approve the game. The high life of the enemy kind of forces you to masterise the game and as it's not insane in the end I had fun doing it. The hero looks great and the RGB separation effect is not the most mechanical implementation of the theme but at least it looks cool. The game controls perfectly, I enjoy fighting shooters with a melee weapon and the patterns are fun ones to dodge, the size of the hero's own life bar was also appropriate for my taste.
Cool one!
Woo a melee bullet hell! We actually gave that idea a try on the Bullet Hell JAM in 2021 (holy heck time flies).
Overall really solid game, I really liked the aesthetics and the patterns were cool.
My only gripe is that there is no feedback for getting hit, neither visual nor an SFX.
Nonetheless, great job!
P.S.: I just read that you made this with Bevy, how rare! We tried that engine a while back but ultimately gave up because it was too hard to understand for us, hahah ^^’
Thank you for your feedback! Yeah definitely forgot about hit feedback. Tho I ran out of time anyway, this was (mostly) my first time using bevy and Rust so I was particularly slow ^^
This was really solid!
Nice to see a melee entry.
The patterns of the boss bullets were super mesmerizing. The chromatic aberration did make it become very hard to dodge bullets so maybe turning that down a bit could help
I love the art and visual effects! It was a little difficult to tell if the dash was on cooldown so perhaps a little indicator on screen would be nice. Also, it seems the downloads aren't working on the itch app. It says there's no compatible downloads for any device (I tried both Windows and Mac). Not a big problem as I could still download from my browser. Otherwise, it's a really fun game and I'm excited to see where it goes from here! Great work :D
Thank you for the Feedback and mentioning the downloads! I think that was because i forgot to check the Windows/linux/mac checkboxes.
this is a fun melee/slashumup, great work for 11 days! I would have liked a little warning before the boss darts across the screen, maybe like they shake for a little before moving? Also The dash would work (for me) on the right mouse button. Great effort here
Thank you for the feedback! Yeah telegraphing all the enemy attack a little is definitely missing. I also planned on adding keymapping but never got around to doing it, you know how it goes.
Pretty nice game. I love the artstyle of the player. The movement is a bit too floaty for bullethell imo. But that's my only complaint. What did you use to make this? Is it a costum engine, or a framework?
I used bevy for this. I would describe it as sitting somewhere between a framework and what is usually considered a full engine. Compared to things like SDL I don't have to setup my own renderpipeline from scratch but there is no ready made game object like character controllers or buttons or smth.
Yeah the character ended up floaty cause it's a physics object/dynamic controller instead of a kinematic one because there where great feature plans for more instability that died in the lack of time. The scope creep is always too big heh
A melee bullet hell? yes plz lol, cool art, the gameplay is solid good but, I only got "stuck" when the boss raised a shield? what are we suppose to do? wait it out? or keep hitting it? its a solid base for a very cool game for sure, good job for the jam , oh also loved the "trippy" rgb effects lol good stuff!
Ah yeah that one has to be waited out. But the difficulty might a bit too hard. But i was also constantly worried of making it too easy.
yeah I hear ya, balance is hard!
I am not gonna lie, I'm getting my butt kicked and punched and crushed starting when the boss shields itself. I have no clue on how to survive it :s I'm loving the character sprite tho!
