Original concept and very fun game šāØ
Would be very nice to have more elevated graphics š
Also, it could be interesting to have a way to go back in the past
Well done !
It's really nice idea, I like that it's generated. It also fits many different themes so you can go anywhere with that idea, I would probably suggest to go wild on that if you plan to finish it. It has potential to build an interesting gameplay around it especially with some polishing around the driving to add more fun to it.
Few tips:
Were there any sounds in the game?
No bugs.
Good job!
No sounds, spent the whole jam coding and play testing lol. You should follow my itch account, Iām definitely planning on posting some updates for the post-jam version. I have a lot of ideas lol
this is the definition of graphics 0/10 gameplay 10/10
the game looks like garbage with colors so bright it burns my eyes but I can't stop looking at my screen cause the game is so addictive. having to fiddle with the weird controls and trying to dodge your past runs was a very fun challenge. my only complaint here is the balancing. you're given so little time to deliver them pizzas so you'd fail more to time than your past lifes. I would prefer to make the time more generous and allowing the player to eventually try to dodge 15 past lives, that would be so chaotic and fun. and having more than one life would be appreciated because one mistake and you're back to square one.
The time critique is a good one, I got used to playing with the controls so I thought 6 seconds was good, but you're right the main challenge of the game should be dodging your past selves which should allow for a more methodical play style. Lean into the puzzle aspect.
And yeah it looks so bad I'm so sorry lmao, I'm working on figuring out an art pass with some better aesthetics soon.
I think you could've benefited from a few playtesters; the knowledge they give is very valuable. sometimes while working on a game, you get so used to it that you didn't realize some problems a normal person would see. yours was a prime example, you got so good at the game that you accidentally made it too hard. I can't express how important playtesting is. even got my brother last minute to playtest my game and I immediately noticed some problems while he played and I fixed them instantly before I submitted my game
edit: art doesn't really matter in the end of the day. good art draws people in while good gameplay makes people stay. so don't worry about the art looking like garbage
This is some great gameplay, the controls were a bit odd to control but that's all for the better of the game's difficulty.
Yeah, it felt like classic up-down-left-right controls was giving the player too much maneuverability. I wanted to incentivize thinking before making a move (which also means I should probably up the time limit a bit?) so I went with the asteroid-car-controls that force you to commit a little harder to the route you're taking. I also think it telegraphs your direction a bit better, which makes it feel a bit more fair dodging your shadows in the future.
I adore this concept and it led to a very fun game. I think the fast paced environment makes it hard to be a cozy game but the mechanic is one I would love to see explored. So much fun!
Originally the cozy vibe was gonna be carried by the art and atmosphere, I was going to have this super cozy city vibe and beautiful art (in my head at least). I think I agree though, it'd be kind of a stretch to fit this into the classic "cozy game" box.
At first, I didn't understand that the red rectangles were my ghosts (that's why they acted so randomly haha). It was very fun! Nice concept!
It was my favorite thing in playtests seeing the players have that click. I think if the ghosts looked more like the player it might help speed that discovery along a bit? Idk, I'm really glad you had fun with it! I'm working on fleshing it out for the post-jam version, so check back in eventually lol
The gameplay is great but some music and sound effects would be nice
Yeah I agree, spend so long just figuring out how to code the gameplay I didn't have any time to work on the polish lol. Next time I'll try to get someone to help out maybe?
Glad you like the gameplay though!
Whilst it might not be the cosiest visually, this is the best interpretation of the theme I've seen! And it was great fun to play! Good stuff. Love the hat.
Yeah, this really could have used an art pass. I am really proud of the main mechanic though, thanks for checking out my game!
