Neat shooter ! I really like how it's dynamic and the progression feels like well balance. I'm quite found of the theme, as a physicist myself, I wonder where you got the idea, but anyway felt good taking revenge on those nasty particles that made my study a real hell :P
I did not see the balckhole effect though, maybe my browser, I known some shader effects are not well exported some times. Also the dash invicibility seemed not to work for me.
In any case, well done and congrats, it's a really cool game!
I really liked the fact that the background moves to the music (or at least it feels like it does). However, the blue enemy feels a bit too fast, and as soon as it appeared I pretty much immediately died.
You're probably right about the blue enemies. I also just discovered that the background won't pulse to the beat when your reload speed is a fractional number. That will be fixed after the jam
You made a bullet hell type of game that both the members of our team who liked this style and those who aren't as fond of it had a lot of fun. Great job!
The skill tree was well implemented. The way it was split was really cool and we liked how the upgrades worked. We also really liked being able to toggle the character animation and the background pulse on and off. It meant each of us could play with the way that best suited us.
I wouldn't normally add a toggle option like that to a jam game, but my one play-tester said the pulse hurt his eyes, and because the jam encourages accessibility, I said "why not?" It feels like I'm adding an option so you can remove content (that I spent a while making), so it feels a little counter intuitive. I'm glad it was useful, even if it was only for two of you.
My first thought when I saw the option was "Oh, sweet! There's an option that makes the game more accessible!" The pulse and the animation are really cool effects, but can be a little overwhelming with everything else on screen, so being able to turn them off or on let me enjoy them and take a break when needed while still playing.
Good job on this one !
I think the music is the first thing that got me in, it's sooo cool :p
I liked the skill tree, made me curious to see more upgrades.
background is great, I was looking for a nice background that was not too disturbing for my game, I definitely like yours :p
great entry !
I'm glad you like the music! That took me about a day to make.
The background is a shader with three sine waves with different offsets and rotations. I also add a second sine wave to create the pulse. Shaders were something that took me a while to get my head around, and I'm still not sure I completely understand them, but if you want me to post the code for it, I can.
Had a lot of fun with this one. Took me a second to get ramped up, but once I got a hold of this it was super satisfying.
Very solid entry, I enjoy the simple yet satisfying gameplay loop. The game also looks cool and I appreciated the sound design, it suited the game well. The background pulse effect was also a nice touch. Those light blue enemies are KILLERS! Well crafted jam game, good job!
This was fun! I might have liked to see more kinds of enemies later on, but the ramp in difficulty with the few that you had was nice.
It did take a while to buy upgrades, especially at the start. Some more balancing may be needed, but other than that, the skill tree system is a great addition.
I did notice how you made the background lines pulse to the beat. That was a nice touch.
Great work!
A lot of nice layers to this. I don’t really generally play this kind of game, so maybe this is more common than I know, but I though the coin value increase with time being magnetized was a really nice trade-off of risk/reward.
I stuck with it longer than I probably normally would to try to get dash kill but it didn’t really seem like that or the invincibility worked, although maybe I just misunderstood what they were. Beyond that, I thought the progression of upgrades and general layering of the gameplay was nicely done.
Great work!
Yeah, I think the dash kill was a bit bugged. Thanks for playing, and I'm glad you enjoyed.
Actually, I originally had a shield timer which would extend your i_frame to a little longer than the time spent dashing. It felt good to use, but I removed it because it allowed an exploit where you could spam dash and never die. I think removing it was the cause of the bug, but maybe I need a different way to fix that exploit.
While the upgrades did take a long time to get, I did end up playing it for a long time. Pretty fun!
Nice job with this, it a bit hard at the start but I like it :)
Were the lines in time with the music or was it just me imagining things? 😋
You are not imagining things. The lines pulsed to the beat.
A great start to a game! With a little balancing, this could be a solid game to release. I played for about 30 minutes and didn't complete the entire tree.
I'd recommend increasing the rate of coin collection to keep the early game from getting too grindy. In the late game, I increased the difficulty to the third level and could only collect a couple coins before dying. I gave up at this point.
I didn't have time to do a full playthrough at the end, but I can see where I went wrong. When everything else is maxed, it is just about playable. I also underestimate how difficult my games are every time, so I didn't realize how grindy it was.
Thanks for the kind feedback and for playing so long!
Spent quite a lot of time playing it to discover the skill tree. Simple idea with great execution.
Great game, and I spent too much time playing it. The music was catch as well :)
Thanks! I'm almost more proud of the song than the entire game, I'm glad you enjoyed it.
