Game Description
An abstract 2.5D puzzle game inspired by trilateration (think GPS).

How does your game tie into the theme?
You play as three cubes that are sent into a neighboring territory. There are opening and ending cutscenes that emphasize that fact, as well as the general vibe of the game, but the theme also led to me thinking about navigation/GPS and therefore the core mechanic of the game.

I really like the concept and had fun solving the puzzles! And this game is amazingly polished, great job on that!

I have a minor point on the aspect of using trilateration: I found the solution for most levels to be positioning two of the cubes directly next to each other at a certain spot in the level and then just moving the remaining cube to solve the level, which would rather resemble a ray between two points.

But definitely was having a great time playing your game!

Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

And you’re right, that is a strategy that is probably too effective. If I expand this more in the future I think the next mechanic I add would probably be something that created pressure toward larger triangles. Maybe shape will multiple target points (or just linked spheres) that have to be captured at the same time.

I was starting to think about that, but I was running out of time and had a clear vision for the ending, so I decided to just go for that instead of potentially wasting that time an idea that might not pan out.

Anyway, glad it was still enjoyable!

Such a smooth experience! A couple of those levels were stumpers! Fun challenge, and I could see this expanding even more with additional levels and features. Well done, these were very fun puzzles to churn through

Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Very interesting puzzle mechanic. I really enjoyed playing it. Glad I managed to finish it despite getting a little stuck at first.

Really nice and consistent art style. I also like how you introduced new mechanic with each level. Although each mechanic made the gameplay more challenging, it was intuitive enough that it didn't require extra tutorials to understand it.

Great job!

Thank you!

I generally strive for teaching puzzle mechanics as minimally/non-verbally as possible. But I’m glad the little bit of “how to play” text was all that was necessary. :)

Very vibey and cool entry. I especially love the cutscene at the beginning of the game that sets the tone. The audio is also excellent, with a great execution of the A Capella wild card.

Really love this kind of puzzle game, and some of the levels genuinely had me stumped for a while. Great job dev!

Great concept and puzzles!  I had great fun solving them and working around the different mechanics.

Thanks for playing! And thanks for the video, it was interesting seeing your thought process as you worked your way through them. :)

This is great, very polished gameplay, fun and unique puzzle mechanic. It was challenging but solvable after a few tries. I really enjoyed the vibes here, with the SWEET a capella level music and the simple but stylized artistic design. The simple shapes you used with the greyscale color scheme works really well together to make a cohesive vibe. Also your intro is surprisingly cinematic for 4 blocks! Well done, one of the best in the jam!

Thank you so much! It was a lot of fun to make! It helped that I was able to put together a pretty clear vision of it early on, so it was mostly just a matter of budgeting my time appropriately.

Okey, this was really cool. It had me thinking at times but it never felt impossible and game length was also good.

Very cool concept! It was a bit hard to get the hang of it but I like it!

Very cool puzzle game! It feels super polished, kudos for the music theme which is really great :)

Developer

Thank you!

The A Capella wildcard was a part of what made me want to enter this time, so I’m glad to hear that that layer worked!

This is amazing how well everything fits together and feel polished. Ambiance is minimalistic but very efficient.  Gameplay was really intersting. I don't really know what could have been better with your concept. Maybe the two or three first puzzles to introduce the "disruption" mechanics were a bit repetitive, but that's probably very subjective. Great work !

Developer

Thanks so much!

I can see what you mean, it’s hard to know what people will have trouble with, especially when you’re trying to make sure they’ve understood the implications of the mechanic. Thanks for the feedback!

Very clean and pleasant puzzle game, I really enjoyed it! Excellent level design. At some point I thought I figured out a strategy to cheese the game (always keeping two cubes together, so the triangle becomes super thin) but I was wrong -- the clever level design forced me to keep thinking to solve the puzzles :D

Developer

Thank you, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

You’re definitely right that that’s a key strategy, and one I didn’t really expect to be so effective when I was getting started. Happy to hear it was ultimately satisfying though. :)

Interesting puzzle mechanic. Since the cubes and sphere have hitboxes, I see this being explored with all sorts of levels with walls, holes and so on. Very creative. Congratulations.

Developer

Thank you!

And yes, I started down that path a bit early on, but I wanted to try to get some interactions across mechanics and decided to hold off. If it revisit the game down the road, though, that will definitely be something I explore more.

The big cube "pointing" the other cubes was awesome and this is such a clever gameplay loop. Super cool!

Developer

Thank you! For some reason the theme and the “Are we the baddies?” wildcard pretty immediately conjured that image in my head, so I just ran with it. :)

Super original game design, I really enjoyed thinking about the puzzles.

This is a great concept for a puzzle game.  Very moreish and kept fresh with the new objects being introduced but also not needing to be explained, just understood.

It was only in the ending cutscene that I even really clock the background music fully being a capella, which i think is a good thing, it was so on point for the vibe and sounded just right.

Thank you so much, I glad you enjoyed it!

Very very cool game and loved the music. Glad I stuck it out on the final level, it was super rewarding. Great job!

What can I say? Even though I didn't make it far (too inpatient for level 5)... Huge fan! The look and feel, the simple but elegant concept - and exceptionally nice work on the sound design. Winning candidate for sure.

Developer

Thank you so much, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

It’s crazy to have scramble through the week trying to get everything done and then get comments like these, ha ha. I really appreciate it!

This felt super original. I loved the idea and the execution felt very intuitive. The music and sound design were top notch to the degree you forget it's a capella. Awesome game.

Developer

Thank you! The A Capella wild card was part of what compelled me to enter this jam (sound design has become a bit of a hobby of its own since I got into gamedev), so I’m very happy to hear that that layer turned out well!

Submitted(+1)

This is incredible! How do you even think of a mechanic like that! I was hooked from start to finish.

The idea is completely fresh to me, and yet it fits the theme well on so many levels. The cubes being sent on an expedition, and the GPS-related capturing rule. On point.

There were also sufficient meat and mechanics for a game of this scope, and they were introduced at a very thoughtful pace over the course of the game.

Small touches like level selection map, light emission from the currently selected cube, the locking visual cue added to the polish.

Likely the game with the best mechanic I will see from this game. Amazing work

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind words, I’m glad you enjoyed it!

It definitely took some thinking to get the core mechanic down. It helped to draw out some simple examples early on and figure out what kinds of limitations would likely lead to interesting consequences. Getting something simple built and just playing around is also always a part of the process. Your question was probably rhetorical, but hopefully that’s at least a little bit insightful.

Also, I hope the “Written and Directed by” thing isn’t too cringeworthy. It was like 2 AM and I thought it would be funny, but it also feels a little pretentious, ha ha.
