Visually, this was amazing. I thought pretty much all of the assets were top-notch and the game generally seemed like it could be a final shipped product.
Mechanically, I probably don’t need to tread too much on the territory already mentioned by others, but me the fact that there wasn’t a clear long-term goal (other than just exploring I guess?) made me feel like even when I was successful I didn’t really know why I cared. I was also thrown off by the fact that some I could go back to islands but it didn’t seem, event-wise, like I was revisiting somewhere I had been before. I was kind of expecting that the point was to go back and figure out what was going on at each island, but that never panned out.
I did really like the core gameplay loop, though, I think it just needed some additional context and feeling of progression.
The world here is great, though, and I’m would love to see a more complete version of this game. Great job!
Superb production value! As many others have already stated, the art, sound and animations feel super polished. I also wished for an end state or generally slightly more involved mechanics (I personally love the concept of building a team for a task), but we all know there's only so much we can do with limited time. That being said, I think having people longing for more is still a great success!
Congrats!
It's a beautiful game and through its visuals and audio I was immediately immersed in the presented world. The game loop is interesting and the intertwined story elements engaging.
However, sometimes it felt a little frustrating as I didn't fully understand why certain choices turned out one way or the other. It's unclear how strongly my stats affected the outcome of given choices.
Nevertheless this game is spot on with the theme and I think it has a great potential if you extend it with some elements and story progression. Maybe you could do certain upgrades for some currency once you're back from an expedition to better equip your crew for the next adventure.
This looks so good and polished for being a game jam game! I had a lot of fun assembling my crews. A goal would have been helpful in keeping the interest going.
Fantastic work!
Clean game for a jam, a bit redundant, I wish I could get to an end. The theme is on point, it's sad that none of the wildcards were implemented. But I think you're getting well on the main theme. I personnaly prefer pixel art games, but your design suit the game. Good Job on this entry!
Awesome art and music/SFXs. 10/10 there. Only minor thing about that was seen ship comeback from right on expedition screen, but from left on game-screen. That felt off every time.
Got a bit confused at some point why not all of my crew is listed in crew list. That seemed random, ended up with 5 wheel crew most of the time.
Encounters while interesting at first a bit hard to quickly glance at to understand what’s going on. Ended up just clicking corresponding icon without reading a word after 10 expeditions.
Didn’t understand difference between islands, encounters and result felt same. Maybe I missed something, maybe there are 5 islands total.
Good game overall, felt mostly engaged while playing.
Love the art and how relaxing the game is to play, I had a lot of fun playing it, the atmosphere created by the art and the music is also very soothing, I like the short text based approach to exploring the sea and the urban legends it hides.
Super cool art with a catchy pro-level style. We recognized it at once, as this is not the first jam we’ve enjoyed your game. Well-polished work with a pleasant, cozy feeling. Short quests are interesting and have a pinch of humor. They build a mysterious feeling of exploring local folklore. The game works great for a jam. In perspective, it would also be nice to have some story progression. Or if different expeditions required different skills, and there was some intel on that beforehand. Best luck!
Super polished and clean game!
Man this game is so well polished. The sound effects, the UI and the art work are some of the best I have ever seen.
I love the squish on the characters and boat too.
Btw, would you be interested in collaborating on a game jam if the future?
I think your art style is great.
Very cool core concepts and I had a blast with the initial round of exploration. Would love to see more variety, maybe some objectives, more crew etc. But overall felt really well polished.
The idea is beautifully thought of, allowing for highly polished arts and satisfying game design. The tutorial is well done too. One feedback I can give I didn't really get how passing a challenge successfully is decided. Overall, you made an amazing game!
Beautiful art!
great entry - it looks and sounds fantastic and lots of attention to detail. Love the flavour texts as well.
Beautiful looking and sounding game! I would love to learn this art style. Super polished - this could easily be a real indie game with some more content.
Great job on the user interface. It all feels clean, professional, and fun to play.
As for gameplay, it did get a bit stale after a while. The choices felt completely random as to outcome, like what I did didn't really affect the game it was all chance.
Audio and visuals are top-tier. Great job on those.
Overall awesome job.
I really liked how you implemented the theme, a real solid entry. I really looked for an end state but couldn't find one.
Well made game, I would have appreciated a storyboard and I couldn't figure out if there is an ending, in any case being a week's work done by a single developer it's an excellent project without bugs, congratulations!
Very solid presentation and audio! The concept is also pretty cool. All that's really missing is a feeling of progression towards a end goal... assuming I didn't miss anything!
Thanks for the review, Wobble! You probably didn't miss anything, I was running a bit out of time and had to cut the details I prepared for the end, sadly
This game felt SUPER polished. I honestly think with some fine-tuning of the mechanics of the crew, the choices, and so on, and perhaps an ending (unless I just never reached it!), that it's professional grade/publishable. The nautical horror/supernatural/mythical elements were really vivid and imaginative, and the SFX were seamless and super clean. Well done for making this in a week!!
Thanks for the kind review, sirilivi, it means a lot. I think the interface transitions were by far the most complex ones I've implemented so far. It was a great learning experience!
