I managed to get 10 gibbons, but my framerate was tanking but I'm not sure if that's my end or the game's optimisation. I thought it was cute, but tough!
Lovely little game! Good job all round. I agree with other comments that the game would benefit a lot from starting more zoomed out. I constantly got eaten and didn't have much time to react
Thanks so much for the feedback! I am glad to know that the start zoom and the gibbons hitbox are consistently an issue that everyone agrees, as I could easily fix them. The same applies to the performance issues. It's also great to hear that the core loop and theme resonated with you, and that you see the potential for a fun and unique .IO-style arcade game. Its a bit to soon to know for sure if I will further work on it, but I will for sure continuing developing games! :D
Very silly idea! I wish the camera started more zoomed out, it kinda prevents you from having much control at the start--but at the same time, that feels very much like the intent. I applaud you and your gibbon game!
Thank you! The small zoom at the start was supposed to make the game more challenging, but maybe it made it a bit to hard.
Congrats on your game! I really enjoyed the graphics, great work!
Just a small suggestion: maybe the other gibbons shouldn't have a hitbox, as they ended up blocking me a few times during gameplay.
Thanks! I noticed that issue after you have a lot of them. I thought it would be okay as long as they were alive, but I can see how it can become frustrating when you have many.
I cannot rate the game as I am unable to play it :/
It seems that the window is not well displayed on my screen
I was able to play using firefox.
It's interesting but I think it mighyt be interesting to change the collecting method or the amount of enemies because I often lose 2 gibbons just to collect 1 after running everywhere
Yeah, sometimes the spawn of enemies and gibbons is a bit inconsistent, even though it’s supposed to be around 50/50. The code I wrote also tends to create small clusters of gibbons or enemies, which can either be very helpful or quickly end your game. I wasn’t able to fix this in time, but I can suggest that you normally will find more gibbons closer to your starting point.
Ok, thanks for the hint ;)
I see the game has a good vibe and the idea is great. I also like the visual simple aspect.
I had some difficulties playing mostly because i couldn't see anything so not the ennemies nor the other to gather so it was a bit hard to really appreciate the game like he should.
Keep training and making good work !
Thanks! I am starting to realize that the small zoom at the start maybe made the game to hard ahah
Wow, a very nice game for a first jam, well done! I think you might want to look into some performance optimisation, I was running at like 5 fps the entire run, I assume because theres a lot happening off screen. The collisions with fello gibbons makes the game difficult and I feel the ramp up on enemies is too much. Very unique game! Reminds me of those .IO games from a few years ago, although having some way to fight back like if they kill a gibbon, they die too, would be nice.
Thanks! I was aiming for an .IO game style. To be honest, I didn’t have much time to optimize performance or do a lot of playtesting, which is why the FPS is a bit low and, based on most comments, the game is too hard. I had planned to introduce bombs that you could collect and use against the enemies, but I was too busy with work and didn’t have enough time to implement it. Maybe one day I will make those changes! :D
i'm not sure if you meant to add full screen as an option but i can't see enough to play the game very well! i really don't want to rate it until i give it a real shot, so if you can check that setting that'd be awesome 🙏
Hi! It wasn’t my intention to make the game full screen, but that’s how it turned out. I’ve tried to change it on the itch.io page, but it doesn’t seem to work—so I think the issue is in the game files, which I can’t update right now due to the deadline. I was hoping the full screen mode wouldn’t be an issue, since on my end the game still displays well. But I really appreciate you pointing it out—thank you! 🙏
i'll give it a go with what i can see then 👍
edit: running it in firefox instead of chrome worked!
