As a guy that loves flight Sims, I love this game, it's pretty sick how well everything is done for only two weeks of work, landing was a bit rough, but after only two attempts I nearly landed on normal I think it was, but definitely a lot of fun! Also a great use of theme, having issues pop up with the plane realy drive the urgency to get the plane on the ground haha.
thank you so much!
Love it. Can't believe how much effort went into the flight mechanics! Never mind the environmental and difficulty settings. Really well made! 5's across the board for me!
Thanks!
I'm very happy you like it.
We tried very hard to get a somewhat more realistic simulation as opposed to a very arcade-y game.
To achieve this, we estimate the aerodynamic forces on every wing and control surface and just let physics take it from there. Even the player just controls the rotation of the control surfaces, and all the actual movement changes just happen through the physics calculation.
I figured out the "tip to the side and pitch to turn" trick, as well as a fun loop da loop trick to line up with the runway. I wasn't able to land properly, but that was on me. A weird thing is that the yaw never really turned the plane. I'd start to move a little, but rubber band back to my prior heading when I stopped. I don't know if that was on purpose.
Definitely agree with varying starting positions with difficulty.
I'm super impressed by the graphics in this game, well done! The plane looks so real!
I had a really hard time playing this game. Maybe it's because I don't really have experience with flight simulator games, but it really felt like no matter how much I turned I barely turned at all. I ended up going way past the island with no way of being able to figure out how to find it again.
This game was extremely on theme though, and clearly a lot of effort was put into it with all the gauges and the impressive graphics! Good job!
Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, a proper tutorial on how to fly would have probably been a good stretch goal if we'd had more time.
What I think is happening here, is that you'll turn more by rolling to the side and then pitching up, rather than trying to pitch with the yaw controls (which tends to be more useful for small, low-speed adjustments). Either that, or you've experienced the plane getting a lot more sluggish in handling once it gets slow (since there is less air flowing over your wings your plane has less force to turn).
Pretty fun! It's impressive you were able to get something like this running! I'm very bad at it and had to try many times before I finally was able to land the plane on the easy difficulty. Lining up with the runway was probably the hardest thing for me, so I think it would be nice if the difficulty options would also spawn the player in different places (easier difficulties could be more in line with the runway, for example).
Spawning the player in different locations is a great idea, and not too hard to implement in the game.
I'll definitely add something along these lines once the rating period is done and I can update the game again!
Fun flight simulator! I tried a couple times and I thought I was about to land correctly one time but the plane blew up on the runway haha. The plane's controls sometimes seem sensitive and sometimes don't. It was fun trying to manage all the different aspects and put out the fires and experience the chaotic landing scenario.
Haha, thanks!
If the plane explodes on the runway you were likely landing too hard.
One of the gauges (vertical speed) shows a red/green light once you've extended the landing gear that shows you whether or not you're descending too fast for landing.
Oh haha, I must have been trying to concentrate on keeping the engines from burning? MAYDAY! I'M GOING DOWN!
Thank you for the Linux build.
Woah, a flight sim? I didn't expect anything with realistic controls. I wouldn't have had the first or second idea about what was going on without my Intro to Aviation class -- let alone be able to land on my third serious attempt on easy.
I get the name, but without already knowing the context of aviation emergencies, I would have come into this expecting an air traffic controller talking me though bringing it down with a difficulty slider for how good his information is (Easy being that he's perfectly reliable, knowing when you need to put fires out and Difficult being that he's the rookie who can tell you when you're about to hit the island if he doesn't slam you into it first.)
My biggest critique though is that I can't rebind controls to something more immediately accessible for left-handed play. (I prefer to use the number pad with roll controls above strafe/turn controls.) I'd also have liked a way to retract the landing gear in case of needing to do a second pass. PAPI lights or a similar system also would have been a nice touch.
In short: I wasn't a fan at first for the learning curve, but your game grew on me. I don't think I'll be mastering it, but I won't be surprised if you win. Good luck!
Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah, I see the improvement in rebindable controls, as well as a more extensive tutorial teaching you how to read the instruments and fly the plane. The latter is a job for when we've got a little less time crunch than two weeks :)

That also sounds like a surprisingly fun game idea to prototype at some point!
