Great visual effect, but I had a hard time playing it because the game area was super small and didn't resize.
Oh, sorry to hear that! Can I ask what resolution your screen is? I know it could look smaller on some screens, and the solution was to use the zoom (Ctrl + mouse wheel). I don't know if yours was a different error. This is my first time working with Godot and with fixed resolutions, and I'm still learning how to do it correctly.
It's 3840 x 2160 high DPI. Zooming in didn't change the game size.
Yeah, that's probably the reason. The game has a 1024x576 resolution, so on screens with large resolutions it actually sucks. I'm working on being able to scale the game without losing the dithering effect. I'm sorry you encountered that issue while playing but thanks for giving it a try!
(ā¼ļø warning: hostile comment for comedic effect, not to be taken seriously ā¼ļø)
At the beginning I was a Ā·bitĀ· duĀ·bitĀ·ative. But I Ā·bitĀ· the bait and, my god, what a gamĀ·bitĀ·!
Yeah, the story might be a tad arĀ·bitĀ·rary and without amĀ·bitĀ·ion. But who are we to arĀ·bitĀ·er or prohiĀ·bit what exhiĀ·bits are exposed? Don't let your self expression be cohiĀ·bitĀ·ed by them! You hobĀ·bitĀ·s! You triloĀ·bitĀ·es! You crossĀ·bitĀ·ting jacoĀ·bitĀ·es! You are in deĀ·bitĀ· to the author.
In my opinion, just an itty Ā·bitĀ·ty tidĀ·bitĀ· of it: I just really liked the puns (and I can relate to that feeling of thinking you found your place only to later find you were wrong. I think capitalist society actively works to make that happen)
Oh ā„ļø I really liked this review, thanks for taking your time! hahaha I just hope that behind all the puns, you enjoyed this playable thing, even just a little Ā·bitĀ·
Wouldn't have written it if I didn't! Great job! ^^
So good! Love a cool little exploration game with some cool, quirky dialogue and a cool aesthetic any day of the week. All of that stuff is obviously really fun already, I liked the humourous tone and kind of casual dialogue almost like someone texting or something. But I think the dichotemy between being presented with a world and being told you can theoretically go anywhere (which is true!) but then being inclined to follow all of the arrows anyways, and to consider where it leads you. To be led by the world and wonder and hope what the result is, rather than take the intiative within the world, only for the world to lead you somewhere that actually doesn't fit you. Anyways, I just read the rest of your game page, and maybe this is so not at all what you meant to say with this game, but oh well, I had a really cool time with it!
Also, I totally get the burnout thing, really struggling to be creative while trying to find work and stay afloat and mentally healthy and keep a sense of purpose for myself. So all I'll say to that is, hey, you're doing great, you managed to reach another weird little person (me) with your weird little art, and that's super awesome. Also, something my wife showed me the other day that's been floating in my mind since is how art and creativity has turned into this thing that you can be good at, or even worse, can be profitable at. But really it's just a human behaviour to be creative and do art, who gives a shit if it's "good", because it's art!
Sorry for the ramble lmao, I started typing my thoughts and then they just kind of kept going. Thanks!
The game does not have any very obvious or explicit anti-capitalist messages, but there are some thought provoking lines and the general objective of the game does really feel aligned with the struggles of existing in our modern day capitalist society that I really liked (Maybe because I am a natural born, olympic training tier overthinker): Purpose, journey vs destination, the wondrous beauty of wandering and doing what really moves you against the disappointing worldliness of doing what you gotta do, etc
Maybe the themes and tone would've felt more nuanced with a better balance between the seriousness and the "finger guns" humor of our rectangular friend, but maybe that's just me
The game is visually stunning and the vibe is superb, the presentation is already there, the systems are smooth like butter and everything just feels so homogeneous, so take this as an invitation to make some bigger out of this, exploring what the atmosphere has to offer to really convey everything you wrote down on the "Some context" section in an interactive and moving manner.
Congrats!
Loved the aesthetics and the charisma the little square had. Although I understand your point, maybe this game jam is not the best jam for this game, however, I encourage you to keep experimenting with these vibes and consider designing a full game because I would love to be in that place you created for a little bit longer
First of all, thank you so for the kind words! I know it's not the classic anti-capitalist game you might find in this jam, it comes from a much more personal, small scale perspective, but I think it's also important to recognize the forces at work when life defeats us. The meat grinder that is capitalism sometimes leaves us feeling helpless, powerless, resigned, guilty... and in that state, it's difficult to fight to change anything or put things in perspective. This stupid little thing is precisely about that moment, about trying to regain strength from the mud remembering who is you enemy. I understand your point, and I understand that it might be too personal? but I don't think it's so out of place in the conversation about capitalism. In any case, this is just my opinion! Thanks so much for giving it a try and play it! :)
Hey, creating things we like or care about without pressure is what game jams are for. Cool work!
Best wishes
I know! That's the theory! But sometimes something breaks in our brains and makes us forget what it's like to create things that aren't productive.
Very true. Take care of yourself!
Thank you! You too! š¤
damn. incredible. beautiful colors. stunning storytelling. i almost cried when he saw 'grandma' 10/10
Man, It's so hard to rate game with only one category and I don't want the dev to feel bad or to think that I didnt like the game so I'll try to explain that I loved it. Your game was beautiful and personal and reading the text after made it way better. The presentation is amazing and I love the mood and the final joke reveal. However, and being completely honest, it's not the biggest anti-capitalistic tool and I think you already know it, but I'm very glad that you enjoyed making it
Yeah, you're right, I already know it beforehand! My idea before the jam started was to make a completely different kind of game, but in the end, this came about organically along the way, and it made me reflect about how we relate to creative things within capitalism. It may not be that powerful, but it's honest, and it's a direct consequence of the system in which we live. It's probably more for me, to remind myself of important things, than for the rest of the world, but I think that's okay too. Thank you so much for playing it and taking the time to explain your point of view, really :)
This is genuinely impressive. The shader looks neat and the game runs well on HTML despite being 3D.
Also I really relate to everything you said on the page's description text. Thankfully game jams are pretty good for making weird shit that might become a larger project in the future.
