There's a lot to say about this one actually. It's a bit of a slow start, as much of the VN was told in a third person perspective with a lot of narration. It's nevertheless an interesting premise, but I'll admit it took me a while to warm up to this VN. However, it unfolded in a way I did not expect, and as a result I've grown to appreciate the clever ways the writing took advantage of the setting to create situations that would not be possible in any other world. Ilmari has a unique power over the residents of the other world, and he did abuse that power. He's a pretty horrible person, to be honest, but still a fascinating one to turn into a protagonist. The resolution of his actions unfolded in a clever and organic way, allowing me to come to the conclusion myself that the reason Ilmari lost his powers of protection was because he felt he deserved to be hurt, and thus he was hurt. Not to mention what happened by the end of the story. There were definitely a lot of strong emotional highs in this one, as slow as it may be at times. And it's done things no other VN has done, such as having religion as a core theme, one which the protagonist fully subscribes to, to the point of being homophobic himself. (side note: I can't help but wonder whether this particular theme was inspired by the one other FVN I know of that has religious themes... purkka should know what I'm talking about). The VN definitely tackles some uncomfortable subjects head on, yet it's hooked me into the plot all the same. So... ultimately, it's one of my favorite VNs in the jam, if only for how much it's stuck with me. Really good work all around.
