I think the best outcome would be if the person posting their video genuinely put effort into making the video out of their own personal interest, as well as wanting to support the developer. In that regard, I would be happy to see someone not only put effort into something they love to do, but also wanted to support me.
Sometimes however, it feels like people are posting it just with the intent of getting views on their video. Maybe they still choose to showcase your game because they were interested, maybe they just saw it as a good strategy.
I think that still benefits both parties, so minding it personally would not make too much sense. But it still seems a bit on the nose. Sometimes I can understand that approach, as every person may have a different reason or thinking process, sometimes it does feel a bit disappointing.
I am going to assume that underneath a game means posting on game page's comment section. If the youtubers puts link of video of them playing respective game, well that's okay. It helps both devs and youtubers.
But if they put link to video of something else unrelated to the game then it's bad cause it's they are basically promoting in wrong place.
I’d like to share an experience that might serve as food for thought.
Someone once posted a video titled “The Worst Game in the World” in the comment section of my game. (The video itself is gone now, but the comment log remains.) When a spoiler-filled video that openly belittles your work appears, is there anyone who can honestly respond with a heartfelt “Thanks!”? I found out I couldn’t. I was bedridden for weeks.
Of course, if there are creators who genuinely enjoy having Let’s-Play videos linked in their comments, I have no intention of denying their feelings. In the end, isn’t the crucial point simply how the creator feels when they see that situation?
Totally Agreeable point here. Takes me back to the saying "if you aint got nothing nice to say dont say it at all" same if your posting about said game. I would never belittle a develop in my videos, thats not what "im" here to do nor am I trying to create a community around that basis. I feel you are right to that, but don't let toxic creators take you down. You are worth a lot more than "this game sucks watch my video" type of people. Gently stroll by and le the haters hate and the lovers love!
