Like its was said in like.. all the other comments of this game, VERY good nes vibes! it also looks supper good! i loved the visuals, this feels complete and for a jam thats amazing, amazing entry !!
Perfect NES vibes, great pixel art and huge game. Made with custom tools too? Incredible. Kudoz for such efficient work.
The most NES game I’ve played so far, could definitely be a thing on the actual console!
Seems very vast, feels and breathes NES, and only my incompetence is keeping me from progressing into this vast dungeons!!
Graphically it is perfect, audio is very good as well!
An annoying thing would be why attacking doesn’t always work, I’m not sure why, but it’s related to movement (but that’s a thing you’d see back then too)
I might not have the time to test this game thoroughly during the voting period, but I shall explore it after it’s done
Excellent work!!
This really puts the metroidvania in metroidvania. I think the only issues I can find is the audio loop points are not amazing and there's really no reason to fight most enemies. If you don't engage, you don't lose life and you don't lose MP, so there's no reason to fight since that's the only thing you can get from them.
Everything else though, top stuff.
It took me a displayed time of 02:33.15 and I found 40/47 items. I also found the 2 spots where you get stuck. The only ending we have access to is cool, I like the game that way unkind to the player ;) .
I enjoyed the game a lot! The presentation is top notch, all the visuals, sound effects and music, I love the music. It controls pretty much perfectly including all the extra abilities you get. The rise in power is real and getting immunities to spikes and liquid feels specially great. I like that they're a few parts you can access sooner than you should by bruteforcing, such as the first? damage reduction item. The difficulty is perfect for the jam and I'm super happy it's like Metroid rather than Symphony of the Night (no EXP), I like that kind much better.
I'm not certain you can access the relevant abilities in a different order than a predefinite one, unless jumping then using the shield allows you to but that's the one thing I had a lot of difficulties controlling (at some point I think I had to because I was stuck between an orange door and a chasm to chase a star).
Great one!
Thank you for your screen capture. You helped me find ANOTHER bug in the game. The palette for the player should have been the Fire Armor upgrade, not the grey scale palette. Somehow, the wrong number was set for the endgame.
Anyway, glad to see you managed to play my game. All the best! \ o /
Glad I could help ;)
Wowzer! That was a great game! :) Love the Castlevania feel! Each time I engage combat, I had to decide if it is worth the risk. Kept hoping for heart drops 😆
Just wow! I can’t believe how much you packed into this in such a short time, and it all fits together great! (except those misplaced warps, eep)
I’m just absolutely floored by this. If it doesn’t win the jam, I can’t imagine what would.
Very cool mashup of Zelda II, Metroid, and Castlevania!
5/5 across the board! I haven't finished the game yet, but after putting in about 30 minutes I have to say I'm loving tales of sir regal, and I will finish it soon enough. I definitely find myself wishing for more save rooms throughout the game and I did notice a few oddities with the collision hotboxes (I messaged ya about this on Discord!). Apart from those two minor nitpicks, this is an awesome execution on all fronts as usual. Thanks for making and sharing your game!
I appreciate your feedback in various problems you have found in the game and the post-jam patch continues to be updated and improved upon!
You're gonna get mentioned... mwah ha ha ha...
This is one of the best and most impressive projects from this Jam. Nice game, great job!
By my beak, is this a full metroidvania with save files, a working map system, upgrading weapons-- the works?? I'm astonished as to how you got this all done in 2 weeks time, this is exemplary! I especially like the nods to Metroid 1 you've made, brought a smile to my face. The graphics and music are exactly what they should be; I love your tilesets!
Fantastic work!
Yes and thank you!
The map grid is 24 x 24, which is about 9/16th's the size of the first Metroid game. I ended up with 145 rooms, which is about 30-35 more than I wanted, but when I saw the layout, I had to accept it and move on. Even though the player movement 'seems' slow, when you consider a rate of 60 pixels per second, that means it's possible to go from one end of the game to the other in 68 seconds, not counting screen transitions.
Once the voting session is over and this jam is unlocked, I'll patch the fixes which will allow for 100% items and the good ending. After the game is beaten once, an unexplored map will appear in future play-throughs (though a few hidden rooms will not appear).
This is honestly phenomenal! The sprites, animations, and music all feel as though they were straight for the NES. I also really like the sprites that you used, I will likely put a bit more detail into my sprites just like with these! I like the mobile controls as well!
A big, happy shoutout to everyone who has posted reviews and comments! Your positive reactions and legitimate criticisms help make this project worth completing!
After the jam (this is locked into 2 jams, so there may be a delay), I will post an update that fixes the warp room bug and adds a few more save rooms.
Wow! I can't believe how much you were able to fit into a two week game jam! This game looks, sounds and plays just like a real NES game. I'm impressed with how strict you were with the NES restrictions too and it really pays off. Castlevania on the NES is one of my all time favourites so this was hitting all the right spots for me. The tilesets are incredible with loads of variation and the sprite work is amazing too.
Really good job!
Well this is a very nice game ! I was really impressed with the mobile support with the controls as well, I’ll check on a pc to see if the screen controls show up as well, but what you achieved in such a short time is really impressive !
Very good! I genuinely believe this will win the jam
We'll have to see. I am a little annoyed two of my warp objects are broken, but luckily they don't stop the player from reaching the end of the game. :(
i'm impressed you managed to make a game of this scale in the time frame, the items were really good, i liked the metroid reference in the design of the one room with the item (i dont remember which item was there), im a little dissapointed i couldnt 100% it since 2 of the room triggers send you inside a wall, essentially forcing you to reload, also it seems that crouching doesnt work as intended? the sword collider isnt low enough to actually hit the enemies on the ground when crouching, otherwise it was a wonderful experience, the ending was unexpected, but it leaves me wanting to know more
Nice catch with the warp objects bug!
I combed through all 400+ warp objects and found 2 of them were missing coordinates and 1 had bad coordinates, but it did not lock the player in a wall. Because one of the missing objects is related to the good ending, only the bad ending can be achieved until I can patch the game (which is ready to go). Because I use game saves, the game could be patched and the player can resume playing without any issues.
Yeah, I saw the worms cannot be hit by a sword. It has to do with the placement of the weapon and it's hit box (which I made bigger late in development and it still did not hit the worms). Luckily, Shield Bash will still hit them!
This game feels like it came straight from the console. The graphics are incredible, the music and sound effects fit perfectly, and the room design really invites you to explore. I was impressed by how huge the map was, even though I couldn’t finish it or explore everything, but it was very entertaining, well-crafted, and complete. Definitely one of my favorites in this jam.
damn thats a big project! I liked it too only thing I am missing is maybe few collisions fixes and something that would give me sense of direction?
It really has the vibe of NES
