Round 5 fish count: 4043. Finally a game I can beat!
You may need to bear with some bad jokes, here, but something about this seems a bit fishy... Then again, the narrator runs on, he's carping and whaling with barely any porpoise... I'm just net that kind of buoy, sea? Anyway, I'm hungry for dinner. What's the catch? :)
Not sure how, but I missed this one when I was going though the game (Guess my mind had gone with the wind, like a bird)... Good thing I noticed at the last minute!
Notes:
Nice game, it took me a couple of tries to understand the mechanic and the inputs but then it was fun placing units around and see them gathering some fish. As a red-cat owner I have to say that I liked the story setting :)
Probably is not the kind of game that can be played on a NES, but it was nice trying it out. Congrats!
Great production! It’s not at all my style of game, but the catchy music and juicy interactions kept it engaging.
A really cool game, with solid visual, albeit a tad too advanced for the NES, with great audio (music is very catchy and SFX are great!!) too, and a gameplay that, if maybe needing more balancing, is really fun!!
for some reason you have to place your units in a given order (e.g. nets and baits need to be placed before), which makes the game more complicated than it is (though some would love that), but it makes sense regarding animals
Also very cute!!
I reached Stage 2 with -496- 569 (using only otters - I couldn’t see the value of others units, except for maybe the bait, as they cost too much while denying area. Nets are the worst, so promising yet very disappointing for a cost of 100 and consumed after a while. might requires a non-smooth brain to use properly)
Also, the fact you don’t have lives and need to redo stage 1 over and over makes conquering stage 2 by trials and errors quite hard (but that’s a very NES thing).
Excellent work!!
Really cool idea remix of a tower defense game! I love the idea of not defending, just collecting. Nicely done!
This is a very creative idea! Having a TD game with NES graphics is a refreshing change of pace! Great job! The music is very catchy.
Just so you know, there is a small stutter that happens every 4-5 seconds, but it is not super noticeable and does not affect gameplay. It happens while the round is ongoing, and not during the purchase phase.
Out of curiosity, how did you set up the targeting for the eagles? Do they go for a random space in their range or is there some sort of priority queue?
I did it! after 3 tries, caught 1671 fish at the end.
This could 100% be a NES cartridge, and one I'd be happy to own as the game is very fun. The look and animation of the bear, bird and cat when attacking and winning are pretty much perfect, so are the speeds of everything and so is the difficulty of the game, I enjoyed the game a ton in part because you eventually need a carefully planned placement to win with just the perfectly appropriate room for little mistakes here and there.
I guess selling at only half the cost (rather than 3/4 or something) means it might not help you and you may at some point realise you're condamned to lose sometimes later into the current run while you're still only near the beginning, which happened during my second try and might not feel great to everyone, yet in my case I actually appreciated the adrenaline as I was constantly on a razor's edge, I ended with a bit more than 1400 fish caught and it was actually a fun run.
Awesome game!
Cute little tower defense game! I didn't make it past stage 2 the first time around, hahah. The audio's probably my favorite part, the music is very relaxing!
interesting take on a tower defense game, i couldnt get past the 1200, that was a bit intense, but the levels leading up to it were a good challenge, immediately triggered my bloons tower defense infested brain as soon as i realized what the mechanics were
otters for the win, i love those little guys, the art is so cute,
Nice work on this game -- great art and animal animations (otter was my favorite), nicely harmonious palette choices, and solid mechanics. I also liked the creative take on the jam theme. Improving my score enough to make it out of the first stage was a bit of a struggle for me, but I kept after it across about a dozen plays, slowly making adjustments (testing nets, otters, bait, eagles, bears, and the placement of all of the above, and trying to strategically juice them with coffee) to get it over 200, over 220, 250, 290, and finally 300 to make the second level -- success! My first intuition was to place the cursor on the land, so it wasn't until play 6 or so that I realized there were water-based options, for whatever that's worth (maybe I'm just dense). Nice job!
5/5 all round gang! Great entry! I love this one alot
Thanks for playing and sharing your feedback!
I'm not sure what's happening, but it's got some slowdown for me. Either way, the concept is very solid.
I’d love to hear more about where the slowdown is happening for you—is this when you start the fishing part of a round? Somewhere else? In spite of the visuals looking like an NES game there is some heavy background rendering happening to pull off some of the effects.
It gets worse the more fish spots are on screen. Granted, this device isn't that powerful, but this feels very rough.
It’s all about the bears and using those perks at the right time! 🐻
Thanks for playing and leaving your feedback. We definitely could have used another week or two to tweak the balance here ahead of launch!
