Description
Ruins of Albia:

In a fantasy world on the verge of ruin, full of hate, where people have lost their purpose, a knight, filled with hope and determination, tries to make his land return to its past glory and help everyone.

Ruins of Albia is an hypothetical retro JRPG, inspired by the setting of the Dark Souls series, but with more hopeful and heroic themes, similar to the ones of The Legend of Zelda.

The two uploaded tracks are:

1. The title theme: a theme that juxtaposes a dark and menacing section with a more hopeful and heroic section, representing the atmosphere of the game

2. Qoltketh, world's cause: like in most JRPGs, at the end of the main campaign the protagonist might face against some kind of divine entity boss, often times evil. In this game the same trope reappears, but the boss, lacking a real name and called Qoltketh by the myths, is more of a lovecraftian creature, out of the realm of human comprehension, whose feelings, thoughts and actions are the cause of the world's existence and everything that happens inside of it. Killing this creature will free the world from the state it is in, but doing so is considered almost impossible.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Loop points:

Title theme: the loop starts at 00:34 and repeats at 1:30
Qoltketh, world's cause: the loop starts at 00:11 and repeats at 00:56

------------------------------------------------------------

Fun facts:

- Everything you hear is made with instances of 3xOSC, FL Studio's stock 3 oscillator synth. It is mainly used for basic sounds and it's not capable of much, but with some effects and filter automation i managed to make all the sounds

- In Qoltketh's theme you can hear some glitchy sounds in the upper register. Those originate from a synth patch that i played at an octave so high that it started aliasing and that gave me the idea to make this distorted track.

- Qoltketh's theme is based on a loop of 2 5/8 bars and a 7/8 bar, thus making it a piece in 17/8.

Sorry... I wanted to rate your track a couple days ago, but I forgot :_

Crazy, shizanutic, percussive... Almost pixelated industrial! LOVE IT!

Can I say I'm crazy if I say that I listened to “Qoltketh, world's cause” for ~10 minutes straight?

All in all - good job! And most importantly - AMAZING!!!1!

P.S. rawr :>

Very retro take, for the title theme the lead is pretty loud and the mix is pretty wide especially the percussions (I like this though), you'll need to tone down some frequencies too in the lead but probably just dynamic EQ would work.
Qoltketh, world's cause _2 was a though listen, its very chaotic I feel very uncomfortable if that was the goal, big success, the glitch effect are hurting my ears a bit too much, its cool but hard listen although very unique i've never heard something like that.

after some days have passed i agree that i maybe went too far with the bitcrushing and should have reduced some high frequencies, but i was held back by the idea of preserving the crunchy old console sound. About Qoltketh's theme, its purpose was sounding uncomfortable, but not as painful as it turned out. Thanks for the feedback!

The glitchy sounds in Qoltketh's theme were great, they kinda act as hi hats in the percussion.

The base material was great, but i felt that Qoltketh's theme could use a second section to break up the monotony a bit, since the held pads got a bit boring near the end.

Good work!

Title Theme: A bit monotone, sounds like a video game, a little laid back, nice overall.

Qoltketh, world's cause: Chaotic noise. (Reminded me of Autechre (Note: Not a huge fan of Autechre))

Both tracks are fine, although my brain separates the two.

Good job, but still would not like to listen to the chaotic song again.

I like how you started out with the motif but then modulated it and had it evolve very fluidly into new ideas on the title theme

That second track is spicy goddamn! Personally found it super freaking cool, fun time signature as well

Great job!

The percussion in Qoltketh is so cool. I would love to hear more boss tracks in that style. The sense of rhythm throughout the two tracks is really good, everything has a sick groove. Great work!

I always felt like i wasn't good at drum beats, so hearing this was really nice, thank you!

Certainly, got that old JRPG vibe. Your title theme got a regal quality mixed with a cool back beat. The progression also worked very well. Qoltketh was a surprise for me. It is a bit hard on the ears, but don’t get me wrong this isn’t a bad song and has its place, like we heard uncountable times in creepy boss themes in JRPGs. It’s an very interesting set up for the motif. All in all a cool submission.

I like all the harmonic movements here, the Title Theme has a lot of mysterious/regal vibes where the boss theme has a lot of great tension that paints a pretty clear picture of what's going on. Having played around with 3xOSC before I know that this probably took a lot of patience to make seeing that everything here is made with it, major props for that!

Thank you! While making this project i realized that 3xOSC is definitely more versatile than people think! It's simplicity allows you to create raw sounds pretty efficiently, and then you just need to sculpt the sound with some fx, over which you have a lot more control since you can use any plugin you want.
