Creating a game with one’s personal engine is quite impressive, it is the LifeBlood of such a program after all...

The general style is very striking and draws players in with its intriguing characters and dark environments. Perhaps too dark in certain locations such as the tunnel, sacrificing visibility for atmosphere.

It is satisfying to pilfer. Stealing anything triggers a lovely animation where objects are seamlessly transformed into the hud space. Though players may struggle to align their cursor with their targeted prize- the default mouse sensitivity is extremely low, even after pushing it to its upper limit. Some amount of input delay was also encountered, though this occasionally appeared to fix itself with a startling “jump” to where the mouse should have been.

You must continue with the engine you so thoughtfully built.

Thank you so much for feedback! Yeah, I need to do something with mouse sensitivity, it seems to be very different from device to device.

Pretty cool! I'm always in the mood for some old school medieval themes! I like the style you went with for this game! And the music was just right!
The sounds for picking up coins and treasure were very satisfying. I admit, I expected an element of danger, like someone might stop me, so I was a bit surprised to run around and just steal stuff in the end.
Overall, a fun experience and an interesting way to implement the theme! Good job!

Your idea was very interesting. It's one of the games I've enjoyed the most in this jam! Good work!

I really like when stealing you instantiate from the screens position to the canvas, that's a nice touch! Also all the small sound details and the footsteps changing when going up the stairs, walking on the 2nd floor etc.

The love you put into this shows, and you did an awesome job! I also love the take on generosity.

Thank you so much!

Cool concept! And super impressive that you used your own game engine! The art style and sound design work so well together. I had fun looting every place to give back to the people!

A loot simulator, my favorite! I really like the world you created and the voice of Mammona. Great job on the dialogue, one of my favorites to play!

Developer(+1)

Wow! Thank you so much! We are really happy to be one of your favourites!

Hey it's Chris!
I read all the other comments, and I echo most of their feelings. I loved that the game captures a unique atmosphere of both eerie yet inviting for discovery--maybe because while I'm engaged with collecting, I'm not chased or under enemy pressure. It's definitely up my alley.
Have you considered building on top of the explore -> collect -> distribute -> repeat loop? I know you wanted to wrap up the narrative in the short jam, but I feel like this is even more compelling as a bigger game, where I'm slowly introduced to the identity of Mammona, the trouble that I'm really in, and a secret ending where I can escape the Gold Master's grasp. Perhaps a knowledge-based game, similar to ones such as Outer Wilds or What Remains of Edith Finch. Anyways, an exceptional effort!

Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts on our game! Before the final cuts due to the time limit, we really did consider bigger interactions with the world, and beggars were more prominent in the initial concept. We also thought about various different endings. We chose this one because lifting the curse seemed like a bad ending overall, since the main character is kind of a bad guy. :D

Crazy that this is your own engine! It looks fantastic and runs great. Love the character design of the demon. Great job!

Thank you so much! It's so cool that you liked Mammona!

Story - Fun and unique! A thief cursed to be generous, like a Robin Hood if you had to twist his arm to get him to give to the poor. I dug it!

Mechanics - Pretty solid, if basic. Walk through rooms, collect loot, give it away to sewer beggars!

Theme - I liked the twist on the theme. Most of the games in the jam deal with the more positive aspects of generosity. I like the darker turn you took.

Audio/Visual - The visuals were pretty rad. The audio made me laugh - this guy is the best thief of all time, but he's stomping through people's houses with what sounds like a peg leg. Really funny. I really liked the loot acquiring animations though. Having the loot spring straight to your inventory was really satisfying and made me want to keep looting stuff!

Overall - I think you guys did a great job, and you used a custom engine! That's wild! Great work!

Thank you so much! That's a very detailed review, and we're honoured to receive it from you! We're thrilled that you enjoyed our game! The peg leg part made me chuckle! :D

cool game ! really liked the look of it, especially seeing that it is your own engine ! it felt a bit linear, but the plot was a great one, robin hood if he was just a jackass. looking forward to other games you make :)

Thank you for playing our game! Happy you had fun with it!

I love the creative gameplay on the theme and story! The artstyle and music is amazing giving me medieval vibes and for the mechanics its so easy and fun to explore around to collect the coins!

This is a dark project!

Very cool! The game is fun and the flow is nice. The dialogue is a bit slow so the skip is very welcome - nice narrative.

The downside of the nice and continuous flow - I basically hugged the walls of each level and just looted. I dont know if this was the intendet way but it felt a bit like I was optimizing the fun out of the game (I said the quote uuuh cool).

The presentation is amazing. Nice environment work and characters. Particularly enjoyed the pick up animation (inspired by Blue Prince?) and the loot presentation in general.

The theme works narratively and moves the story but playing the game I never felt like I was generous. I am not so emotionally attached to the loot since it is so easy to get and kinda "not special" since there are only a few items and these are scattered everywhere. And then I have no choice and no gameplay in giving it away which just makes it another button-press for me.

Also props for using your own engine :D Great work and keep it up - I want to play the "Mammona Metal Age" soon!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your detailed and thoughtful review! It truly warms our hearts! Neither of us has played Blue Prince yet, but now we’re intrigued! :D Regarding the theme, we aimed for a unique perspective on generosity—"involuntarily generous", he-he, where the point is that we’re not rooting for our main character.

Submitted

Yeah I can see that interpretation :)

Blue Prince does a similar thing with the pick-up - from physical object in the world to UI element in one satisfying float haha

Love the style of this game! It really matches the creative take on the theme!

I love the Thief aesthetics. Game is really well made, but i'd rather prefer to download it, because i feel a little sick with all these 20fps and camera shaking. I loved the plot and the it's twist in the end.

Developer

Hi! Thank you so much for your thorough feedback! It means a lot! We’re thrilled that you liked the game!

Our custom engine is still in early development, so there’s no downloadable version yet. But we’ll definitely work toward that!

Well made, nice looking, and a unique interpretation of the theme.

A bit dark at the start, had to lower my blinds :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Happy you liked it. And yeah... it's definitely more of an evening game at the beginning ;)

Very unique interpretation of the theme!
