Very creative and unusual concept. Though a bit complicated maybe, I like the idea.

Nice work with the card animations, and I like the robo-rally like card emulation.

I felt a little cheated with the implication that I should use my own graph paper to draw out the maze, as that's the exact sort of thing that a game is well suited to do - the player would still have the trial and effort of programming, and having to retrieve data recordings, but I'd think the slow resolution of the maze in front of the player as they experimented with random hands would be an interesting game loop.

Developer

I really wanted to do that, actually! Sadly, the time constraint of the jam made that impossible. If we turn this into a full game, there's definitely going to be a visual component -- although it's more likely to be a mapping tool than an automatically updating map.

Thanks for playing!

I like the idea, but I feel it could do with more feedback from the result of actions or at least have the logs show the actions taken until explosion. I just found myself getting very confused

Developer

The logs do show the steps taken before explosion, unless you have an infinite loop. But I could definitely have been clearer about the conditions that allow for data return in the tutorial.

This was a great take on the theme! I could've used a bit more explanation on the goal in game, but overall it was a fun experience. I liked the card animations!

Developer

Thanks for playing! A future version of the game would definitely have a more in depth tutorial.

Cool concept and nice twist on the theme implementation :) I really like the hints idea to suggest drawing stuff on a paper. I am quite found of those games where you must do stuff outside the game scope.

On the other hand I found it not very clear how the punchcard programms works, I surmise it loops, thus the infinite loop error. And the rng might be a little too frustrating for me as I got lot's of card that I didn't always need and thus got stuck in making infinite loop programs, or a programs that didn't help me understand the maze.

A part from that it's very nice, the card animation feels nice :)

Congrats for the entry !

Developer

Thank you! I think the hints could probably have made clearer -- you have to leave the starting square in order to return your data recorder. Thanks for the feedback!

neat idea fits the theme and all,but needs sound for that emmersive feel

Developer

Thanks for playing! Sound is working just fine for me, not sure what's going on there.
