How does your game fit the theme?
i made chess but the tiles you move to are a limited resource meaning that they disappear when u move a piece to them

Really creative twist on chess! As a 1950-rated rapid player, I loved how the disappearing tiles added a new layer of strategy. I even called a friend to try it out, and we both had fun planning around the vanishing board. Of course, having no AI limits solo play—but the concept is strong and really engaging.

By the way, I believe a basic AI could be implemented within 10 days. Even with the disappearing tile mechanic, a simple minimax algorithm with alpha-beta pruning and a basic evaluation (material + tile position) would work. Depth 2–3 is enough for a casual but fun challenge. It won’t be as deep as Stockfish, but definitely doable for jam standards. I’d love to see a future update with that!

Great work overall—very unique idea!

Developer(+1)

Im SO glad a chess pro like you and your friend enjoyed the game truly makes me happy :D

And yeah an Ai could be implemented in 10 days.....if someone better than me at coding worked on the game but for me literally till the last minute i was still working on the game XD the pinning pieces and the check took me sooo long i was still learning things while making this game

This project made me learn alot however and i will release the Ai update soon

(+1)

Totally understand—game jams are intense! You did a great job, and I’m glad it helped you learn so much. Can’t wait to try the AI update when it’s out! All the very best.

Host(+2)

Fun concept to apply to the classic game of chess!

I understand that a full chess AI wasn’t possible in just 10 days, but playing against myself was still enjoyable and a good way to explore all the new twists in this game variant.

Some audio and sound effects would help add a bit more immersion.

All in all, a fun little prototype game—keep it up! ♟️✨

Developer

Im happy that the host themselves liked the game :)

Awesome concept! I loved the art (Simple but fantastic) and the gameplay made me enjoy so much, even for a person like me that does not like chess too much, Nice work, you made me like a chess game.

Developer

OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH ! VERY GLAD YOU LIKED IT :))))))

Submitted(+1)

I like the concept, definitely makes for some unique strategies. I'm not that good at chess tho XD

Developer(+1)

Lol me too im like 300 elo in chess.com XD

Thx for your comment tho !

Submitted(+1)

Good concept, but I assumed it was a single-player game, I don't have a 2nd player that will try it with me

Developer

so soon a single player mode will be provided

Thanks for the comment !

Great idea based on the theme! I want to say, I completely understand your pain. I made chess a while back and it is brutal. People don't think about things like pawn starting moves and promotion and things like that. The worst part for me though was checkmate detection and making sure you can't put the king in danger. There's so many thing you have to account for. However, I didn't have to implement tiles that get deleted over time. For that I want to say well done!

For anyone who's reading this and wants to complain about the game not having single player, I challenge you to make fully working chess, then see if you have the motivation to make a chess bot.

Developer

Oh man finally someone who understands my pain :)

bro just the "pieces being pinned" took 2 full days this was definitely my hardest project yet i hope i win something.....

Hopefully making a bot won't be that hard....

Thx for your comment ;)

Submitted(+1)

No problem! Good luck on your chess bot!

Cool game, but the lack of singleplayer mode makes it less enjoyable as i dont really have someone to play with so i just played around a bit and found it pretty enjoyable

Developer

Thank you ! Im definitely working on a single player mode

Submitted(+1)

The idea is solid, but the whole success of your game strictly depends on how much one likes chess :)

It would be nice to have a singleplayer mode, but from the comment, I see you are working on it.

There is one thing I'm wondering about. I think it's absolutely possible to force a draw with that kind of rules, just by disabling a number of tiles.

And one more thing- I think at some point the game wouldn't let me make a legal move, but this is something I might have imagined, because I didn't take a screenshot to prove it.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you for your feedback

I don't think it's possible to force draw unless the 2 players agree on this because it's not that easy to do it alone each tile needs to be stepped on 3 times to get destroyed and there are like 64 tiles

And about the legal move you may have been in check and you didn't notice...maybe..? Please if you played the game again at some point and stumbled upon this glitch again send me a screenshot because personally I never encountered any bugs

Thanks again for your comment truly appreciate it

Really loved the concept. I actually play chess and rated over 1750 on chess.com &  i must say it has a potential of being a fun chess varient like the ones on chess.com.

Now talking about the gameplay in the game right now, it doesnt really make sense playing both sides. For single player other side must be an AI or it should be a two player game. But the game idea is solid so great job!!!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your awesome comment !!

About the gameplay the game IS a two player game

You can bring a friend and if ur on pc toggle the flip board every turn option in the main menu

And if ur on phone feel free to toggle it or not

But yeah the game IS missing an ai mode which im actually working on and gonna release after the rating period ends

Woahhh the fully opaque tiles are kinda strategic when it comes to checkmates! I was goofing around with the pieces when all of a sudden, I unexpectedly saw a victory screen pop up- but then I realized-  you can't touch pieces that are in the fully opaque tiles! The queen was borderline invincible for that play!

I imagined the tiles like stone tile blocks that crack whenever you step on them, and when they get stepped on three times, it creates a pit. I think the game is technical enough, but I expected the pieces to fall through the hole when stationary over the "pit". It would be awesome to have a mechanic where if you don't move the pieces off the pit in the next turn, it falls.

Additionally, It would be interesting to have a mechanic where if a piece is over the pit, and gets taken, both fall down the pit! (and maybe for those instances, it can weaken the ground around it too!)

Like the other comments, the lack of AI does make it harder to access the game, though I do like your potential thoughtfulness for a multiplayer experience. It definitely differentiates this  game from most of the entries for the jam.

Developer

thank for ur feedback !
about ur recomendation i thought there will be more stratigies if the pieces stay in place even if the tile they're on is deleted but who knows maybe im gonna make a new mode with ur idea in my next idea alongside an ai

Submitted(+1)

Really cool concept. There are so many potential strategies that I would be able to use if I was good at chess. Good job!

Developer

ur not alone....im bad at chess as well lol XD

Submitted(+1)

I also had a problem where at some point all pieces but one froze completely. But the idea is great and the game is very polished. Great entry!

Developer

Thank you for your comment

About the problem im not sure why it happens

Lemme guess was the piece the king ?

Submitted

I think so, I dont remember 😅

Hey there, I've tried your entry :) it's an interesting take on everything is a resource to make the tiles on the floor a resource, it adds a nice strategic twist to chess! I'd have loved if you would have implemented some sort of AI as an enemy because playing chess against yourself doesn't feel too much fun for me.

I like the pixel art and the animations, it plays and feels smooth. I sometimes had issues with the piece selection where i could only select one particular piece.

Good job and congratulations on your finished game :)

Developer

thanks for ur reply !

yeah ur right on the AI part i just ran out of time and didnt know how to do it

i might do it soon tho :)
