Game Description
In Flying Feathers you play a humming bird attempting to consume enough nectar to grow your flock. With just yourself you will need to gather it yourself but once you have a few new bird buddies they can do all the work. Which is good because word is there's an unruly cat on the loose.

How does your game tie into the theme?
You consume nectar to get more birds, which consume nectar for you so you can consume bugs and still have a thriving flock.

Really cool game! There's a lot of polish in just about every aspect, including graphics, sound design, and controls. I really appreciate the wide variety of options, including difficulty settings and the ability to remap controls. Gameplay wise, the only thing I think is missing is some sort of health indicator for the cat. Especially considering how much HP the cat seems to have, a health indicator would help players better gauge how effective the feather damage is.

Really nice work!

Excellent entry, very cohesive! I really liked the two modes, though like some others, I didn’t realize eating bugs increased damage so the first two battles went on waaaay too long. Also, I think making a special cursor (in part to match the scale of the game) would have been nice, but really I would have liked gamepad support. But I still managed to keep my flock safe so definitely not big issues.

Great artwork and an interesting idea. Nice job, congrats on the submission!

very well made

Great vibe, collecting nectar and building my flock was cool. The music kicking up when the cat shows up felt great.

It took me way too long to realize flies boost damage, so my first cat fight dragged on forever.

Fun game :)

Developer

Thank you for playing! Balance was probably the hardest thing for me this time. Appreciate the feedback

Great game! Battling the cat is difficult even with a golden fly. It would also be interesting to know if nectar has any other uses besides increasing the number of birds

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and I am so glad you found the Golden Fly! Agree the balance needs some work. A friend suggested the amount of birds you have should be tied to the number of lives you have and I think that would be fun to try out. Right now it is more related to a score, but I don’t think it is quite compelling enough.

This was a really well made game! I enjoyed the management side of trying to build up your flock and stats before the cat arrives. The fights against the cat were also a nice change of pace and were pretty fun, though sometimes they would last for quite a while. Overall, you did a great job!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! Totally agree the cat fight needs more time balancing. Appreciate the feedback!

The game has great art and good sfx and music, but for me the game lasted to long as the boss fight felt like they took way too long to kill and got repetitive.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. Balance was probably the weakest area for us. There is a different game mode that lowers the overall health of the boss if you would like to try and see the ending

The game was still fun and i did manage to beat it!

Great art and animations. In general the envroment is amazing. The movement was hard for me as player moves pretty slow, but I guess its hard to get proper movement for a bird. Very good attemt though game is simpel and enjoyable. Good work!

Developer

Thank you for the kind words. I agree I don’t love the bird movement and want to keep tweaking it to get something I am happy with.

Really cute game, everything is easy to grasp and we figure out what each ressources do during gameplay, great entry, well done :)

Developer

Thank you! One of the goals was to make something clear since in the past I haven’t always been successful.

Very nice polished game. Good job on the entry

Cute game! I loved the SFX haha, and the number of options in the settings menu was awesome!
I expected the controls to be a bit snappier - hummingbirds are known for being able to turn on a dime!! And I didn't quite understand why I needed to grow my flock - it seemed like they just grew themselves but didn't make me stronger or really do anything.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback. Totally fair on the controls. I went back and forth on what I wanted and realized controls is one of my weaker areas. The flock also went through iterations and it was a total miss to not have them have more impact. We got one idea to tie it to your number of lives which I think I’ll implement after the Jam. That way when you are hit it removes a bird, but you can get them back by consuming more nectar.

Very cute graphics and nice controls! I think it's a good take on the game, simple but fun.

I love the art style of your game, especially the cat ! But, I didn't understand the flower collect and nectare mecanic. Maybe I missed something.. But great game anyway :D

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing! Was it how to collect nectar or just what the point was? If you fly your bird to a flower it will connect and start collecting nectar, and once you have enough to look full you can fly to the nest to give it to the babies to make more birds. I was hoping the colors would help that understanding, but definitely can see needing to explain it more.

What a great take on the theme! I loved the mechanics and the art style, it's very cohesive.

There are a few things that could be a little more polished here and there, like showing the cat's total health, because it sometimes takes a long time to leave, and increasing the size and legibility of the damage numbers a bit.

But I'm nitpicking because the game is good and quite fun.

Congratulations to the team!

Thank you for playing and the kind words! I actually had the health of the cat while debugging but thought it visually was out of place so hid it for the game….Probably should have left it in. I didn’t even think about increasing the size of the damage numbers. Also should have some indication of the cat getting closer to being defeated with a color or graphic change. Maybe a broken arm or bandage :) Glad you had fun!

I loved the game, especially the feather SFX hahaha, it was really well done, and the art is super cute. I just felt like the cat sometimes had too much health, though it might’ve been my fault for not picking up enough damage upgrades. Either way, congrats really fun game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and the kind words! The feather SFX was an idea a friend had and we recorded it right then! I really struggled with the balance of the health because if you find the gold bug it can go super quick. I did add game modes which halve the health of the cat if people wanted a different experience, but still need to make the default one better.
