So, this is my sixth COMPLETED game (i have a couple more unfinished projects). Also my fourth game jam. I'm pretty experienced with game development now. I started way back on January 1st, 2025, and it is currently day 201 of game development as I'm writing this (July 21th, 2025). Not a single day missed. Anyway, lets talk about my experiences while creating this game. So what went well? Making the systems for the flux and whatnot, I love making systems. This is like the third time I've written a placement system lol. What went not so well? Honestly, just balancing the game, which i clearly didnt lol. Also making content is a chore and is repetitive and i do not like making tons of content for a game. I mean content for this one as in buildings and enemies. What did i learn after making this game? nothing much really, this was all stuff i've already learnt, if i could improve anything for this game post jam, it'd definitely be making actual balance changes.
Now then, if you're still reading, and you're a beginner, let me share my own advice. Don't start with making your dream game, it's gonna go NOWHERE and you're gonna end up with a half baked mess. This is probably the most overused advice but it's correct, it worked for me, and that advice is to just start small. make some minigames, do game jams (like this one!). You're gonna build up your game dev skill over time. My first game was actual garbage, but i learnt alot from actually making it and finishing it and i really did improve alot ever since i made my first game. Also learn game development however works best for you. I did not use a single tutorial past day 30 because i literally realized they don't work with me. I realized that i learn best when infact making games, not copying down what someone in a tutorial did. But maybe you learn better in a different way, so find the way you learn best!
Well, Sylvia out, hope to see you next jam!
