Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
The idea is about starting your journey in disc golf and all of the *restarting* that has to happen while you're learning to progress. With only so many opportunities to throw the disk in each map, you have to learn how to fail, adapt, and start again.

I really like the ambient bird noises haha! Really cool, and the fact the map constantly regenerates to something new is awesome! Also the shadow work when it flies through the air is great! Awesome game Brian, keep it up!

Cozy and relaxing! I like how you interpreted the theme because that's how I figured out how to play. At first I was bouncing into all of the terrain before I learned how to curve around it. Then I kept overshooting the baskets. Then I kept forgetting about the wind. Cool game about learning from failures. It was also impressive that the levels are procedurally generated.

Great submission!

Neat. The gameplay is simple so it's relatively quick to pick up even without instructions. I never really managed to figure out when I'd hit a tree or not.

I like the concept of the game. I kept running into a bug where I would fly into the basket and it would throw me back into an adjacent tile, even if I was literally right next to it. The screenshot is an example of when that happened. I got rebuffed each time I tried to score. I like the ambiance, minimalistic style of the game, and the throw limit to obtain baskets. Good job ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

Developer

Ah I actually purposefully implemented that as an over shoot mechanic. So if you over shoot the basket (i.e., the basket is on the flight path, but is not near the end of the path), then it shoots your disc out by about a tile. I really could have done a better job communicating that to the user though. Thank you so much for your feedback and for giving it a shot! It's really cool to see other people play your work :)

Interesting game! Love the art and sfx. The idea is really cool too. Just had a hard time figuring out how to play at the beggining of the game (That's probably because I'm a bit lazy XD).
If you have some time available, check out my game! I believe you will like it!

Really love the idea, and it’s executed pretty well and nicely polished… I just feel like the wind mechanic could’ve been more immersive. Right now, you only notice it by checking the small arrow in the corner and having leaves floating around, which feels a bit off. I think It would’ve been awesome to see the wind reflected in the environment like trees swaying, leaves blowing based on intensity, or even sand moving, so it feels more natural and intuitive while playing, but other than that the game is awesome little time-waster :D

The minimalistic artstyle + relaxing ambience makes for a cozy setting. Gameplay is pretty simple to get into but difficult to master. Didnt encounter any bugs, really polished game. Great work!

Developer

Thanks dude! So glad you enjoyed it :) There definitely are bugs, but might be hard to spot haha

Loved teh artstyle, you had an idea and  you exectuewd it well. At first I had a hard time understanding what to do and etc but once I figured it out it was very satisfying to account for the wind, power and then just line up the perfect shot haha. This is your first game jam yet it's so polished and complete, well done man, very impressive.

Developer

Thank you!! Yes, I think I could have done a better job of instructing the player at the start on how to throw and line up the shot. Really glad you found it enjoyable! I think I might want to keep going on this game after the jam and see where it takes me

I really liked the different biomes and randomly generated maps. Simple but fun game with beautiful art style

Developer

Thank you! It was hard work getting the procedural generation to work as intended. And even then there are still a few maps where the player is forever stuck behind mountains and trees :( But thanks for playing!

Yours was super fun too! Commented and rated :)

Let me know what they think! I play disc golf in real life too and tried to make it somewhat true to life haha

I like this game a good bit, I think if you want to put some more time in it I'd add some better indicators for the amount of throws you're at and in general how the game works. Great Job!

Developer

Thanks for the review! And I definitely agree with you, having a small number that only shows up when you are throwing is a bit hard to see. I have some ideas and will definitely update the game further! Thanks for playing :)
