Game Description
Kernel is a short action shooter game. You have to protect the Kernel, but cannot do it unless you consume it.

How does your game tie into the theme?
I interpreted the word consume as to 'eat' and to 'absorb'. In Kernel, you have to make the Kernel 'eat' in order for it to survive incoming damage made by enemies. You also have to 'absorb' energy from the Kernel in order to gain fire power, helping you to better shoot enemies before they attack the Kernel.

Nailed the controls and the mechanics for this, feels very fluid and fun to play.

It has that old arcade sort of vibe to with with the art and sound but feels like you're playing a smooth modern game. It feels like just a space shooter but having to balance the health of the kernel leads to some decision making and the way you can only fire in enclose space allows for you to use certain strategies would wouldn't normally think of.

Great work.

This was a really neat game! The game was super intuitive and the controls worked really nicely. It's cool to hear some NES-style chiptune, definitely fits the game quite well!

Great work!

Real Cool!!! :_>

Good game. Like that incoming enemies were visible before they had to be dealt with so the player can prepare.

This has such a sick retro vibe to it whilst feeling very modern and refined. I had a LOT of fun playing this one, I got overwhelmed a lot whilst playing it because I am not good at these style of games LMAO but it was a LOT of fun regardless of that. Really sick entry, it's really good quality

I LOVE the gamplay on this one.

Arena shooters are a long-time favorite of mine and this one feels quite snappy and fun. Very clever interplay between offense/defense. I might suggest to tweak the balance a bit to help the player feel powerful from time to time rather than overwhelmed, but I know thats a tricky balacing act.

In any case, great work on this one. It's a highlight of the jam for me.

Oh, one other thing, you should increase the reticle/cursor size as I lost track of it quite often.

Simple and fun. The audio definitely fit the retro arcade vibe, and I thought the art was quite nice.  Good job!

The sounds really stood out to me - sharp, arcade-like, with great variety and contrast. The shader coupled with a rounded frame is also clever, making it seem like you’re seeing the entire game through an electron microscope. Great job!
