That was an incredibly well done and fun game! I think what really stands out to me is the art, it's incredibly well done, some of the best I've seen in the entire jam! I also really like the turn based combat and choosing the best attacks to use. The cherry on top is the parry system, I always love games that implement those and it was fun to use. Great job on your first jam!

Absolutely amazing game! I love the art it so well done! It feels very polished and its so much fun to play! Amazing job!

Some music and SFX would certainly go a long way though!

Excellent art and presentation! Though I don’t usually gravitate towards turn-based combat, I like the stamina conservation that’s baked into the combat. I can easily see this becoming more important as the game goes on, where more powerful attacks may be needed, but each one can take up a significant amount of stamina, thus requiring more strategy.

Fo me it's the art, just awesome. Good job!

Art style is amazing, and the upgrades and encounters are so creative! Become the one true gambler

your dog Terry could've done a better job since there is no sfx but he's a cool dog anyway.  Liked the turn based combat and the graphics. A tumor that wants to help? Thanks

Love the parry mechanic! Very satisfying to hit. The art is really good too.

The best dungeon crawler like game ever!! I cant believe this all was drawn by one guy (and his dog Terry) in such a short amount of time. IT is very polished and fun!

Wow, for a first game jam this was an absolute blast! I loved the mechanics and the visuals are incredible, and just as I thought the game just had 2 enemies you surprised me with that bulky one LOL

I've gotten no bugs, but I think the game is lacking music and sounds (atleast I didn't hear any), it would make the experience even more enjoyable :D

Hello, thank you for playing! I've teamed up with my dog, he was meant to do the sound effects but ultimately fell shot :( Since it was a bit hard for him to google stuff with no hands

great art and great controls pretty cool game

The art and animation are excellent, could be a bit faster paced and the humanoid enemies could use another frame or 2 to telegraph.

Developer

Thank you for playing, will definetly do more complex attacks and combos if I do decide to continue with this project!

the art/animations are so well done, it's so impressive specially for a first game!! I tried playing on both browsers but i couldn't make the sound work idk if it was a bug or just not implemented but it would be nice to have some sound feedback in the battles as well. Very great game and i think I'm somewhat of a gambling enthusiast myself too :)

Developer

Hello, unfrotunately since it's my first finished project, it was held together by glue and sheer determination. The audio system would cause sporadic crashes for the web build and I didn't have the time to fix it in time :( Thank you for playing though!

The pixel art is so well done. Amazing job!

If you continue development, it would be really cool to have more challenging battles, with enemies that combo you/enemies with tighter attacking animations. I like the idea of a slay the spire with time-based parries SO MUCH. You got the core of a very very interesting game. AND with this quality you are new to game jams??

Congratulations!

The art on the game is so cool! The lack of sound , little enemy variety and the combats being on the easy side make it feel a bit like a chore, but those things are fixable if you're planning on do a later release, and the core gameplay is very solid and fun! Would have loved to see some enemies do combo attacks so that you need to parry more than once per attack.

Also, the game just showed an error and crashed when entering the sanctuary (Tried pressing insert but it didn't help). I was playing on Brave browser, not sure if it helps. I'm sorry to not be more helpful but closed the error message without paying attention to what it said >_<

Pretty solid game overall, good job ^_^

Thank you for your eloquent response! I wish I would have made less battles in order for it to not feel as tedious + make the enemy perform some combos, yet I was not able due to time matters since I animated them myself (besides one of the characters).  Actually you're the first person to report that bug with the sanctuary thingy, I'm unaware to why that is lmao, thank you

The art is well made and the combat system is easy to pick up. The combat played out the same almost every fight, usually heavy hit, parry, heavy hit, parry, light hit. You're not really punished for using the same strategy since the stamina cost isn't great enough for the better attack. That being said, it's a solid game loop with thought out lore. Good job

Developer

That is correct, I've made the stamina and parry really broken for play testing purposes, but like many people pointed out, I've sugarcoated the player too much and you basically use the same strategy, thank you for playing!

The art and combat are great!

I like the writing, I just wish there was a way to advance the dialogue without skipping it entirely

If you decide to flesh this game out, I think the artifacts and NPC interactions could have more interesting choices/tradeoffs ala Slay the Spire. Right now it felt like there was no reason not to always take the item or do the thing and end up with a broken build (which was fun in its own)

Oh, and def could use some music and sfx!

Developer(+1)

For play testing purposes it was the goal for the player to not die and have a broken build, although I could have made it a bit harder, as in those poor fellas were getting oneshotted . I was in the middle of designing a tradeoff system, but couldn't come up with something more creative than: get this item and lose this stat, so I scrapped the ideea for now, yet I'll keep that in mind, thank you for playing!

Awesome art and writting! the text feels really professional

I also like the parry mechanic, remindes me of expedition 33.

Great Game, especially for your first jam! keep up the good work.

Very good art! The game seems very good for 10 days! Very fun to play!

Submitted

nice art overall! the game could use some polishing like having options to speed run the fight but overall solid entry for your first game jam! well done!

Amazing game, but I see a problem (or an oportunity) I breezed the encounters just healing on my turn (becouse I didnt get the parry the first 2 encounters and got hurt a bit) and parrying every attack, letting the lump of flesh do all the damage.  I was thinking the most fun part was the parry so I would lean into that,  or I would nerf it (make it cost more stamina or something like that). Loved the game
