Yes - I'm new to game jams!

How does your game fit the theme?
A lonely wandering knight, comes to burning village where local guardian tells what has happened. The knight has to get started immediately, or the village will be lost forever because of the lord of the mountain, Malorus the Great.
Also all of us are new to game jams, so we just got started :D

This is really nice. I like the style, having outlined and cartoony characters against realistic tiles doesn't always work, but it did here! I feel like the dash could be more controlled, slower and pausing your vertical momentum. It needs more particles I think, and I understand the idea of having contact damage, but that combined with the tiny dagger I have to use makes it really hard to fight enemies without taking bad damage. I kept trying to go fast after given the dash but I kept dying as a result. Sometimes it felt like my fault but other times either the camera damping didn't catch up to me and I'd fall off a ledge or I'd run into projectiles or an enemy because they started attacking me before I got control back after dying.

art style is really good don't know about that "weee" sound effect tho . solid platformer if their wax some practical or sound effect or some other indication of getting damaged it would be nice

I really loved the art and the gameplay, I loved the idea of granting health after fights. The movement was a bit too fast on the player, but other than that, great game!

Nice job on the game! The environments were pretty cool! I did find myself wanting more distance on the character's sword. I was also able to fly through the levels using the dash (especially once I had the double jump), which was pretty fun/funny, but probably not intended on your side XD

Developer

Yeah you're right that kind of movement speed wasn't intended, but now we know that some people enjoy it so we can build on it next time (or if we would want to make more content for this game after jam!). Thank you very much for your feedback!

Movement was a little spastic for me, and I got a bit motion sick at the end. I do like the enemy art design though.

Developer

Thank you very much. We are definitely gonna polish the movement - and we know what should we focus on next time!

cogratulations on getting started! i was enjoying the game, but at the final boss (i presume) i died and got a gray screen that blocked progress

The platforming was pretty enjoyable and good, but the jump had so much down acceleration it sometimes felt too much. Also dash is soo fast. I like this style of faster platformer you are approaching, and surely if you continue this project this movement can be polished.

I liked the falling sound, was funny XD.

good luck and congratulations on this game.

cheers :)

Developer

Thanks very much for your comment. We're definitely gonna make patch for this game, after the jam judging ends. But you know it as another game jam participant - ten days are not much time. Btw the falling sound is actually sound of me XD.

Submitted

yea ten days is not much and its pretty stressful the more you add

nice sound effect hahaha yes it sounded like a human

The map was huge and the enviornment was really nice!!! the AI seems to need a little more OOMF but super cool non-the-less!

Developer

Because there were only ten days, there wasn't much time to polish those enemies. But thank you very much for the feedback!

Solid game! Good design and execution. The one thing was that the player movement was pretty abrupt and slippery, although that might just be because I'm on a high refresh rate monitor and it's animated per-frame. Overall, solid first game jam entry, nice work!

Developer

Thank you for your feedback, we really appreciate that.
