Awesome game! For a newbie this is really great. The art is completely awesome, I loved the lightning and the design of the art. The idea and concept are really great and unique I dont think I have seen any other game with the same idea. Overall I loved it! The Menu looks great the sfx are fire and the game looks really fun to play. Congratulations!

Developer

thank you!!! im glad you liked it

Pretty neat! That's basically spore but better! definetly the meta for this game is the dash, after level 10 you don't even need to use WASD lol

Developer(+1)

Thanks!! Yes, definetly but my personal favorite is the jaw

I love the clean visuals on this game. I also like that it's like the best part of Spore, condensed into it's own game.  Very polished, not buggy, could easily be built into a full game. Great job!

Developer(+1)

Thank u so much!!

Super clean game! Honestly finished the first level expecting that'd be it but was really pleasently surprised to see you had new enemies and bosses waiting after it! I guess the one weakpoint would be that I wasn't sure if I was loosing progress when dying since I spawned without upgrades but they grew back a few seconds after and it sometimes felt like some of the upgrades didn't do that much visually, but apart from that really solid entry, great job!

Developer(+1)

You got some very fair points! We had ideas for all the upgrades visually but ended up vaulting some, thats why e.g. Flagellum doesn't have a sprite (it looked goofy)

Also you really shouldn't be losing progress when dying, but due to a bug the quickest fix was to delay data recovery, thats why you are gaining abilities over time (not ideal but does the job for this jam)

Thank you for your review :)

Really good game, but I can't  help the feeling that the combat needs something, I don't know if its a balancing issue or what, but even with that it's a great game

Developer

We could work more on that, but it's the best we could do given the time restriction

Thanks for playing it!!

Submitted

Damn, i really like the sounds the idea the visuals everything! It is pretty polished and it is a newbie entry. My only crtisizm is that i lost my skill mid game after dying idk why. Other than that this game is excellent!

Developer

thank u so much!!! it doesnt happen always but we were having some bugs with the savings and didnt have time to fix it, but im glad u enjoyed it

Submitted

Well done. I really really like this game.

Sheesh, this is one of the MOST polished games Ive ever ever played in a jam!

I absolutely love the progression system. The game felt a bit too lenient giving free xp until from the passive mobs but it becomes apparent why that is as soon as you meet the aggresive ones

The bosses feel impossible at the start, but as you interact with them and understand their patterns, they are very easy to beat. And also very fun!

I cant believe how each boss, enemy and mob is COMPLETELY different in all its behaviour and structure. They all have different attacks, sprites, and behaviours.

I went till the 3rd area where I had to ask myself to stop and go to sleep llmao. The game is actually really really fun and addictive!

The visuals, music and the sound design are both perfect. (I actually had my volume down soo low, I couldnt hear the music at first lmfaoo)

I also noticed that you can just die and get infinite xp and just keep lvlnig up, but as you lvl up and need more and more xp. That method kinda gets redundant. So its an easy way out kinda thing if you are stuck. And I actually like it!

All the bosses were SUPER fun! And btw. That lvl transition/death transition had no right to be SOO GOD DAMMN COOL.

You guys nailed the experience. Everything was just too good!

Developer(+1)

IM SO HAPPY ABOUT YOUR COMMENT BUT SPECIALLY THE TRANSITION HITS HARD SINCE NO ONE ELSE COMMENTED THAT

AND I SPENT A WHOLE DAY ON IT

Thank you!!

I really like the concept, the visuals are amazing, the music feels nice, and I love the overall feel of gameplay. Some things I'd improve would be balancing, like the spikes being the obvious best weapon when you spin to create a whirlwind of death. But I know balancing can be the most time-consuming process, so it's really no big deal. I really liked the 2nd boss' design; the first one felt a bit grindy with the amount of health it had. I really tried to find the third one, and I like the concept of exploring the map, but I really thought I went through the entire map, not finding anything, sorry... But I still love the game! With some tweaking and more content, I could definitely see this in the steam shop!

Developer

Oh! Im sorry you didnt find the third. Our fault on that. We thought exploring the map was one of the main points of the game and went for it. But the path to the boss can be confusing at first, since we didn't add any marker to it. I think of that as a fault in our design :/, specially painful since the end is the best part IMO

Thank you for trying it though! Your support is really appreciated

Submitted

No worries lol, gonna try to find it later, I often tend to get confused in navigation.

Submitted

the presentation is so good... everything is very clear from the get go and the variety on the power ups is nice, makes you think what to focus on, game gave big Spore (as others already commented) vibes but also a bit of "E.V.O. Search for Eden",(an evolution game from waay back in the SNES)

Developer

didn't know that game! its so cool to think theres so many games in the past that this game is inspired by an evolution game that is also probably inspired by an older evolution game.

Thank you for your kind review dogveloper, I also truly enjoyed yours.

This game is absolutely one of the greatest games I've played during this jam.
The atmposphere, the mechanics, the idea...everything is really good and it also seems well balanced.
I don't know if it was intended...but when you day, you can collect again some units that you previously collected

Developer(+1)

Hi! Thank you for your feedback. That's intended behaviour as for now :)

Submitted

As a kid of the spore times who never had the money to play it? I feel like I got to live vicariously through this game. Very simple but so polished with no bugs I acme across at all and a lot of fun for it.

Submitted

I loove the looks of the game, really feels like youire underwathever and it looks so unique really stands out. I also love how the player gets to choose the evolutions and we can play however we want. It was fun to fight the boss but a little repetetive or easy for me ig (first boss). It's very good game and I'm so surprised this is a first game. Well done.

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your review! On the balancing, we chose to go for the easier side, as more people would enjoy it that way. Will surely make it a little more challenging if we decide to continue with the project ;)

Thank you for your review!

Very cool game, but I found a pretty important bug. After dying to the second “boss”, I lost ALL of my upgrades, so everything killed me so easily. Don’t know what happened. This is a very original take on the theme! Loved it.

Developer

I am SO sorry for what happened to you.  So I am not sure on what causes that bug, but have an idea: if you die, it takes around 3 to 5 seconds to recover all your inventory. It could be that if you die again before you have recovered all your inventory, you lose it...

Or maybe another completely different thing. Sorry for your experience BUT thank you for playing and for your comment!

Thanks!

Awesome game folks, well done! Liked the simple clear art and intuitive movement

Developer

Thank you for reviewing it! I appreciate :)

I guess I'm not very skilled, it took me like 25 mins xD I dont know how people can finish this in 10. Thats crazy

Incredible game. It reminds me so much of SPORE. I absolutely love the art, sounds, music, ambience. It just got the whole package! Amazing work!

Also if you keep working on this project (which I hope you will), maybe a minimap would be a nice idea.

I did find a bug. For me the skills didnt have any text, so i was kinda struggling figuring out what each thing does at first xD

Developer(+1)

ACTUALLY I just take 10 mins because I had to replay it dozens of times to hunt down bugs, sooo maybe only for the second playthrough when you know exactly where to go hehe.

Thank you for your words!! I appreciate all the support I'm getting from the community, so thank you for this review.

Also the bug didnt ever happen to me ??? Was it there from the beginning or it appeared after something specific?

Again ty :)

Submitted

Makes sense. I'll have to try it again then!

I had this issue from the beginning yes. I just tried it again (using firefox again) and the same issue appeared. But then I tried it with Chrome and the text was there. So it seems to be a Firefox issue somehow.

Submitted(+1)

do you just like me are a freaky fuck that thought the best part of Spore is the first 10 minutes? so do I gotta a jam game for me, great enemy and specially boss design, satisfying progression, cool presentation, 3 areas is so impressive for a jam. the mouse didnt track properly a lot of the time and is easy to exploit death to level up but amazin nonetheless

Developer

Im happy this game feels like made for you :)

Would be good to polish the mouse behaviour in the future, thank you for your feedback. Also, exploiting death in phase two lets you get some really broken cell (dashing cooldown can go down to 0 seconds). I personally found it funny so left it as is, but in a proper game should balance that out

Thank you for your review!

Wow, super impressive job for your first ever game, great job team!! Love fit of the game loop with the theme of having to start over and over again from the bottom of the evolutionary totem pole. Pretty fun to upgrade the cell over time. Lots of really nice polish details with the particle effects and shader stuff. The upgrade menu is super cool looking. Really dig the minimalist aesthetic, but wish there was just a bit of UI such as something to indicate when the dash reset or how much exp needed to level up. The upgrades were all super cool looking but it was kind of tough to see which ones were actually useful. And another minor nitpick as others have said, the dashing sfx got super old after a while since you are basically dashing the whole time. Maybe having it pitch slightly up or down randomly would add some needed variance. On a similar note it would have been nice to have an auto dash option by just holding down the mouse button. That being said I really got immersed in this game and the core gameloop and level of polish are super impressive, first game jam or not. Awesome entry!!

Developer(+1)

Thank u so much!! Yes we were thinking about adding a bit of UI but in the end we ran out of time. Adding variability to the sound effects would be very good also, we should have implemented it.

Neat little roguelike, sounds did feel a lttle weird but dont know why

Developer

thanks!! we had some troubles with the sounds when exporting the game for the browser, dont know why exactly but it doesnt happen in a normal build
