Really love the concept of this game! You did a great job with the speed buildup and obstacles of the game. The tooltips inside of the game are also a great addition.
For feedback:
- Music and SFX will make the experience much nicer
- In level 5, I fell down at the start and didn't respawn
- Sometimes you're unable to see where you need to go. Blind leaps are not really ideal to have, so having the camera show more or zoom out when your speed is high could help with that
Overall, I think the main thing that's needed in this game is polish. Music and SFX, along with particles, would make the gameplay much more satisfying. That being said, you got a great concept to work with, and it's amazing that you could accomplish this solo in your first game jam. Great job with your submission!
Thank you so much!
I love the art; it's super cute and fluid! I'm also a sucker for fast-paced movement-based platformers, so you got me hooked! I absolutely love this, also cat included, +1 point!
Thanks, I learned animation while making this game and I'm glad it turned out okay.
The movement are very interesting a nice , the fact that there is friction and acceleration involved in the velocity of the player. But maybe its a me problem since having a low acceleration is not my cake. The timer also gives a nice feeling for me to challenge myself. For a 2d platformer its nice. Check out mine too
I tried to play your game a few days ago since I saw it on the discord, sadly my keyboard doesn't have arrow keys (it does but on a different layer that doesn't include E & C) and I couldn't play it properly at the time, but I'll try to change my keyboard layout and try again
ah thats a shame ,i am considering adding button rebound in the future
The movement felt very smooth and the player character is really cute! The levels were challenging, but I noticed in level 5 you could fall off in some parts and not respawn (if you glitch through a barrier or fall at the very start). Apart from that, the game is really well-executed.
Yeah I was cutting it close when I was making level 5, I didn't test it properly.
I think we all got the message in the end 😄
The mechanics felt smooth, and while the levels could use a bit more playtesting, they’re great for a game jam!
Definitely missing some coyote time—since we’re moving so fast, it’s tough to nail the jump timing sometimes.
Just a bit of SFX would also go a long way in enhancing the experience!
Would love to see more levels; the sense of speed felt amazing!
Awesome job!
OMG this is great! You implemented well the speed mechanic, but i would add more coyote time, since sometimes seems a bit unfair when you click to jump but it doesn't jump! Honestly pretty good for your first jam game.
RELLLY like this game! I love the idea of a momentum based platformer!
Extra points for putting in so much movement mechanics in such a short time as a newbie, I was just exactly like you, when I was making my game I had zero experience so I had to learn while I make the game, which made it so difficult.
This would be amazing with some extra levels and polish such as Music and SFX, pick or make something that'll make the player want to "go fast" type of music and satisfying jump and landing SFX.
When it comes to level design I'd suggest adding some sort of mechanic that will allow the player to turn around without killing their momentum, something I can think of will be bounce pads on walls, or a quick turnaround button.
Overall well done! would love to see this idea get iterated and improved on! Good job! ✨
Thanks so much for the feedback, I tried adding a fast turn mechanic but I went the wrong way about it so it doesn't work properly, and on the last day I was close to having wall jumps conserve a fraction of your entry speed but I ran out of time before coding that in
Really smooth movement! Love the idea of the speed based gates! There were occasions where it felt unclear when i was able to jump, could use a more lenient buffer? I couldnt get past level 4 specifically. Awesome ideas overall!
I like the super meat boy vibes, keep going!
PS: Just because other people might have the same issue.... CTRL+Space opens a searching bar on OperaGX so you might want to play it in another browser
Thanks, I didn't consider that, I planned to add an alternate control scheme with S or down arrow + Space to jump but I didn't implement it.
super meat boy but with cat, still have something to do in game to it looks more polished, but you have some potential, have a good luck
