Really fun entry! I loved how the progression felt tied to the character’s journey, and unlocking new abilities kept it interesting. The bees were a menace early on, but it made getting the air attack feel super rewarding. Also, great use of music and parallax gave the game a nice atmosphere. Would love to see where you take this if you expand it post-jam!

Thanks for playing and for the comment! Not sure my plans post-jam. If I continue this at all, it probably will not be for a little while. Game jams always leave me a little burnt out for a few weeks

The end of the game made me laugh so hard! It fit the title perfectly and I really enjoyed using the moment abilities

Developer

Thank you for the comment and for playing! I'm glad you liked it

Nice game! Controls feel nice. Bees were super annoying to fight until I unlocked air atacks.haha. Also, music was very load especially at the start, would have really liked some volume controls. But the music section was nice! Really good submission, well done

Developer

Thank you! Glad you liked it. Music volume controls is a good idea, thanks for the suggestion.

Really neat game! I broke the red crystal and got nothihg tho unsure what I was missing but had fun upgrading my armour and the dialogue is funny, I do wish the ground attack had some movement to it it is ANNOYING fighting the bees without the air attack

Developer

Nah, you didn't miss anything. The red crystal is just something I just left in because I thought it was fun to find. The bee's are definitely annoying to deal with without the air attack - that was somewhat intentional, to make the upgrades feel more beneficial. The air attack is kind of useless without the bees. Thanks for playing!

This was fun! I liked the aesthetic, and the grind turned into quite the addictive loop.

I may have soft-locked myself though? I'm not sure if the game has an end, but I got to a point where I wasn't able to finish upgrading and the knight still refused to go to the castle. There was also a point where I skipped talking to the guy in the mine and grabbed the pickaxe - but it seems like he doesn't say anything anyway?

All-in-all, it was a good experience, and I enjoyed playing it!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I didn't have time to add dialog for the miner, but the current "end" is if you go past the mines to the left, and talk to the lady. It kinda ends on a unresolved note though.

Loved the music it was really good the looks of the game was also awesome, exploring different part of the map gathering resources was also cool, although feels like it needs more other than resource gathering

Developer

Thanks for playing! Yeah, it's a bit lacking in the current version. Maybe if I expand it, I would improve the combat more

Submitted(+1)

I loved your game! Upgrading all my gear was fun too. Although those bees were annoying at first, I found them much more manageable when I unlocked the air attack.

Developer

Thank you for playing! Glad you liked it.

Very nice visuals and sounds. The mechanics and quest are fine, but just a little bit cookie-cutter like chopping woods and the likes.

If there's one thing I would absolutely look into improving is the camera however. As it stand with the default Camera2D node in Godot, it's quite painful for me to play the game for more than a few minutes, both the screen and the background jumps around too much. For example, it's very jarring for me when you jump on the lowest level in the forest and the whole backgrounds shift upwards.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I'm not entirely sure the best way to adjust the camera. Do you think that it should follow the player faster or slower? Also, do you mean that it's jittery, or just that its smoothed too much? On my computer when I jump in the forest the background doesn't shift at all - only the foreground moves. Thanks again for the feedback and for playing!

Submitted (1 edit)

For me it's too jittery.

Let me rephrase the background problem. Whenever I jump, the foreground shifts too much, and it reveals too much of the background, making the view feels really weird. It feels like not just the character jumps up, the also the whole ground falls down, if that makes sense. Maybe I'm not being eloquent enough, but for me it just feels hard to focus and rest my eyes on the character itself. My eyes shift around too much trying to catch new information constantly pop in and out of view.

Developer

Ohhh gotcha, that makes sense. Thanks for letting me know!

having more than 2 biomes in a jam is always very nice , the parralax effect are a nice touch , the vilage with the clouds , i kinda hoped the clouds could also move , or it looks a little bit weird.

Developer

Thank you! I agree with the clouds suggestion. I wasn't able to make it move in a way that looked right, but I'll look into it if I continue working on this game post-jam. Thanks for playing!

Love the art style! hard to fight flyers, maybe add an air attack?

Developer

There is an air attack - you just need to unlock it. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

amazing I loved the art the game idea and the music. you could of added controller support, and made the U.I. match the pixel art but still it was a very nice game :)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Those are good suggestions. Due to time constraints, I wasn't able to improve the UI as much as I would have liked, but if I continued to work on this game, I would definitely add some of these things.

Submitted

Really lovely game loved the art and the parallax backgrounds you made for different stages, also noticed you implemented coyote time and jump buffer which made the experience way better, if you dont mind giving my game a shot i would appreciate it.

Developer(+1)

I'm glad you liked the movement! A lot of the art was from asset packs made by others (which I linked on the game page). Be sure to check them out! Some of the art I made myself, but there wasn't enough time to make everything since I was participating solo. Thanks you for playing and for the comment - I'll be sure to check out your game too!

I genuinely thought I was going to be unique, but I guess you had to ruin that lol. This is similar to the original idea that I had! took a bit of wiggling into the game to figure it out, but glad I took the time to! Idk if I missed something but I couldn't get into kill the king :(

Developer

No, you didn't miss anything. It's currently not possible to defeat the king. Thanks for playing!

Great choice of asset packs and animations! I wish the attack was bigger and faster though. I think the game didn't do the best job at telling players what to do but it's still really solid. I like how you used the armor to add more and more abilities and upgrades, but I think the game suffers from feeling super grindy. If the objectives were faster and there were more of them, it could probably fix the issue. One idea I had was if each "quest" was a new minigame (each time you want to chop a tree, you have to go through a little rhythm game about chopping with an axe, each time you try to mine copper, you have to go through a different game etc etc) but that's just me backseat designing haha. Level 1 Squire to Level 100 Royal Guard game rules very very hard.

Developer

Yeah, I was hoping to make combat more of the main focus, but wasn't able to add all the enemies I had intended. To make the collection less grindy feeling, each time you hit a tree they have a chance to drop a bee on you, but I probably left the chance way too low. The mine area is definitely grindy feeling too. Maybe if I expand on the idea, I can add alternative things to do in each area? Oh yeah, I also had an idea to make it so you can steal wood from the lumberjack to trigger an optional mini-boss fight, essentially skipping most of the first zone. Maybe doing something like that in each zone could help? Not entirely sure. Thanks for the comment though! I appreciate the feedback

Nice work! Love the high parallax backgrounds and music. I always enjoy unlocking more abilities but it didn’t feel like my stats increase at all, walking back through the bees, they were still pretty dangerous. I think I finished it, I got the buffer overflow comment which makes me think this needed more jokes to build up to it but I certainly know the challenges of the short timeline! Something like each time you upgrade, shortly after you run across another adventure with better gear and the quest increments. That being said, I still think maybe halving the requirements would still have been enough. I also appreciate all the info on your page, but was still sad I didn’t get credit for that tricky crystal I found.

Developer (4 edits)

Thank you for playing and for the comment! Yeah, the buffer overflow comment was a last minute addition. In the original story I had in mind, there were supposed to be 2-3 more biomes, and the main character procrastinated so much that he circumnavigated the globe. The actual end of the current game is when you talk to the NPC to the left of the castle, but you essentially finished the game.

Also, the drop amount of copper was supposed to be 2-3 per deposit, but I forgot to change it before time ran out. For wood, you can kind of skip the last upgrade, which I didn't really explain very well.

Nice job finding the crystal!

This art is so cute and the game is decently fun! I wish it was a less grindy.

Developer

Thank you for playing and for the comment! Yeah, I had intended for it to be more combat based, but didn't end up having enough time to work on the enemies much.

This is honestly really good. the first 10 minutes were really fun. but the progression is really slow and due to the bugs the game is unfinishable. I spent like 30 minutes looking for copper but wasn't able to find any. but I love the mechanics and the content is crazy for a 10 day jam

Developer

Thank you! I'm not sure what you mean about the copper - it does exist in the game, if you go inside the cave area to the left. That being said, there isn't a true finish to the game yet. My goal was to add a few more enemies and a final boss, but I didn't have the time to add all that, especially only having time to work on the weekend and evenings. Thanks for the review and comment
