  • The GDD is solid but would benefit from adding images of the art design and game mechanics, as well as expanding the development timeline for more insight into the process. The main menu is a nice start, though I noticed a bug where the text at the top is cut off in the small game window during gameplay. In gameplay, level 5 proved challenging due to the wall-hug functionality, and the absence of coyote time makes precise jumps more difficult, leaving little room for planning. Despite these hurdles, the twists in the gameplay are enjoyable — good job on completing the game.

Have you checked that your GDD is publicly accessible ?
yes

Is your game set to public on itch.io so we can see it?
yes

Summarize your game!
Escape strategy is a single player game where the player attempts to navigate ten levels and find keys to get out. It has very simple controls with a simple art style. the controls are A and D to move and space to jump. With W and S used on level 10.

Please explain how your game fits the theme.
I took only one to mean only one room layout. In this game the walls, the floors and the spikes never change positions or layout. While some rules or mechanics may change, the room will not.

thank you

I don't usually play platformers so this isn't really for me, but I like the concept of mechanics changing instead of the level changing!  Level 5 was too difficult for me unfortunately, especially with how you can get stuck against the platform edges if you move into them while falling. As far as I can tell you need a pixel perfect run to get beat that level. Maybe slowing the wall just a little would help? Good work nonetheless!

thanks for your feedback. I spent a while trying to figure out the wall sticking but it was a little too complex for me lol. If u ever get to stuck on any level you can hit the levels button in the menu. All the levels are automatically unlocked so u can skip straight to level 6

Pretty fun. I played all the way through, levels 5 (run) and 9 (flappy capsule) were my favorites. It's a pretty well polished experience, the only (maybe) bug I found was that you can see outside of the usual area in level six but that's a nitpick. You could have really rage baited harder with a death counter or something but the game was overall a pretty good time. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for your feedback I’m glad u enjoyed level 5 given the increased difficulty. The death counter I definitely a good idea I was also debating adding a timer. I kinda ran out of time to polish up level 6 and definitely should have gone back and extended the walls to u couldn’t see past them.

Surprisingly fun platformer game. Managed to beat all levels except for the gravity one. The controls on that one just felt unnatural to me. Then again, I am generally not much of a platform player. But awesome job!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I was glad you were able to beat most of the levels. I got a lot of feedback that level 5 was too difficult. Were u able to make it past?

Submitted

Yes I managed, but that level did take me the most retries. Aside from the gravity level which I could not beat at all, level 5 is absolutely the most difficult. Closely followed by the flappy bird one. Most of the flappy bird one was fine, except for trying to aim through the tunnel at the exit.

Developer

I had a feeling the ending to flappy capsule was hard but I wanted it to have a rewarding finish.

Really cool effects on the levels! I couldn’t make it past level 5, but it’s a fun game.

Developer

Thanks for the feed back. If you get to stuck on any level you can skip it and go to the next level in the levels menu.

An interesting take on the theme. I found level 5 to be impossible but I am apparently just bad at 2d platformers. I noticed that the ceiling only kills/acts as bounding box on a few levels. :c

Overall, a creative take. I think spending some time on audio would've really made this one shine.

Developer

Thanks for the feed back one of my biggest regrets was not slowing down the wall. unfortunately I ran out of time for sound design but I will definitely work on it next game jam.

This was really interesting, great twists on each level. Level 5 was the hardest for me, with 7 being a close second

Developer

Thanks for the feedback. I was wondering if I should slow down the wall but I guess its a little to late now lol.

Yeah it's really tight, but it's manageable so no worries

That was much more interesting than I expected from another platformer) Ingenious!
