  • I love a good adventure game. I grew up with the old Zelda games and I got a kick out of the setting. I also got bullet-hell vibes with the top-down view and the mouse controlled attacking. Both genres are great so I'm totally in for a hybrid. I liked the story setup and little tutorial section (before the lady). It provided an excellent explanation of what was going on and how the gameplay mechanics were going to work. Restricting the user to only a single shot in a "bullet-hell" environment is a fantastic challenge. Runs counter to the constant shooting that a player might be expecting initially based on the controls. It was a fun getting all the monsters to line up so I could shoot them all at once. An awesome addition to the game would be a health bar or other indicator of how many times a monster had been shot. With some of the groups, I'd lose track of which ones were going to die from a shot. The sound effects go nicely with the game and are all timed correctly with their inputs/actions, no weird delays or anything like that. It would be nice to have some kind of general background music throughout the game, but I can totally understand not having it here given the time limitations of the jam. This is a great starting point. There's a lot of potential to the concepts listed out in the GDD, for the caves and bosses, and lots of room for additional expansion beyond that, depending on how far the hero has to travel to fight evil. Well done.

Endless homing was fun! Add whistling and call it a Yondu game)

Developer

Yondu was of course a big inspiration for that upgrade, but I prefer not to have Marvel lawyers over for a visit ;)

Pretty cool mechanics! The shooting already felt satisfying, but the homing and explosive arrows are really great!

Thanks for playing! Glad to hear you loved the mechanics.

Nice, Tommy did some crazy stuff in the woods that day,

The only thing I would recommend is to make the cursor a different color, it currently blends too much with the environment, so it's hard to sometimes see it

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! I agree completely with the color of the cursor. All the sprites are a first draft. Wanted to iterate on them if time allowed. But time was not kind to me.

Really simple and fun. The return trip where you can mow down the second wave of enemies with your uprades was the best part. Good job!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! Indeed, I figured the player should be able to properly use the upgrades once they collected them all.

Really fun game. I loved the idea and the power ups. I wish some enemies dropped heals cause I was stuck at pretty low health from the first encounter when i was just getting used to the mechanics.

Developer

Thanks for playing my game! I considered refilling the players health upon destroying a portal, but I think I fell into the classic trap of becoming too good at my own game while testing endlessly, and felt the game was too easy with health refills. Lesson learned for next time :)
