The concept is not bad, but the execution is truly lacking. Monsters not having HP bars is really frustrating, especially since some seem to disappear and fail the level for no apparent reason. Also, the loops are buggy and sometimes don't "close" to deal damage when they should (playing with mouse). The art is really nice, but the lack of monster animations makes them seem like PNGs ripped off the internet
I like this game's artstyle and use of the theme! Good job!
Our game was also inspired by pokemon ranger, but from a different direction - really liked the enemy variety in your game! Wish I had a stylius, as with mouse it cause severe carpal tunnel :)
The art is lovely, the minigames are cool. The navigation to other UI was strange but not a big problem tbh. Well done, enjoyed playing this
Love the art and audio. The Pokemon Rangers mechanic was a lot of fun, especially after i busted out the stylus! Agree with the others about more visual feedback on progress. Also how do I defeat the Frassle?! Overall, fantastic work!
I think most of what I had to say has already been said, but I'll mention two things that IDK if other comments have said yet:
1) For the pearl UI, it would be really nice to see what it does when you unlock it, instead of having to navigate into another UI to even know what it does (and also unequip it there). Maybe when you obtain one it could also have an option, like "Equip now?" or "Keep current pearl."
2) It felt kind of bad to not have any marker for completing, e.g. the snail. It seems like each map marker should be checked off even if it doesn't award a pearl, as otherwise it's hard to know if I actually made progress or not.
I do have to applaud the variety of enemy mechanics I saw. Especially the Arba was fun.
Thank you for the suggestions! I've definitely thought of (1) myself and that you should be asked to swap and be given some space to test out your new ability. It really was a last minute addition, hence why only a few of the pearls were implemented. As for (2) it's caused by the fact that Snail and Noctua have a "null" pearl because I didn't have time to add two more pearls, thus failing the completion check. I hope to patch these things as soon as the voting period is over! Let me know if you have any suggestions for pearl abilities you think could work.
This is a really fun concept, I think this game fits the theme perfectly. I only wish the game had more UI to show progress and how much enemy health is left
Love the game, simple concept but amazing execution. Love the artstyle and mood. Gameplay reminds me of Pokemon Rangers a lot :D
Great job!
amazing concept, art, love the gameplay despite it being difficult (I'm on trackpad lmao and still had a LOT of fun). Great job!
really cool but it's too hard for me with the mouse (too unforgiving? i'm too slow? i don't know) i didn't even beat the snail
Sorry to hear that! The loop mechanic in this version is a bit strict so you have to draw a tight circle around the enemy and collide with a previous part of your own line. If you experience low framerate you might need to draw slower to avoid clipping into the enemy. I hope to improve the loop system and make it feel more lenient in the future!
ah really nice to hear you're planning to develop it further! :)
Pokemon rangers casts its shadow wide over this jam with all the drawing games, but none feels more like an actual spiritual successor than this one, and certainly none so beautifully.
Today I learned that I'm not great at drawing small circles around things
Good game 👍
Incredibly fun time! I loved getting my mouse movements down just right to hit the fastest circles I could manage, and I love things like the jester completely flipping my head on its toes, wonderful little web game!
Played pokemon rangers before! Love how you incorporated the chain combos when you circle them multiple times in a row like in pokemon rangers! Awesome work.
I've never played Pokemon Rangers so I can't speak to the inspiration, but this is a very well done, clever little concept with well designed and diverse enemy encounters. Well done.
Much better than it was before, and quite difficult too. People seem to keep bringing up Pokemon Rangers, but I've never played that, so I have nothing to say.
I've tried this before the polished version. You improved it a lot, both as artwork and controls. Even so, playing it with the mouse is still hell. A touch system wuold benefit it.
I enjoyed the Pokemon Ranger like mechanics! Brought me back to playing it on my ds as a kid.
I'm impressed at how you made each enemy feel unique and challenging without it getting repetitive, although I think some of the monsters have too much health though. The game is a lot of fun!
Art was amazing! The drawing mechanic was creative, especially since you could only take damage while drawing. Quite challenging too
