I like the feel of the game, but the loop mechanic being just a timer and the lack of different tower variety kinda make it feel very barebones. Still I do like me a tower defense so I can't say I didn't enjoy. It's great work for how little time we actually had, and the ui works great.
I like the general gameplay and feel
The loop portion feels a bit undercooked (basically just a visual cooldown for a tower defense game)
Still a fun time (also, the flamethrower is OP lol)
You have some nice polish and visual/audio feedback. The concept is interesting, but the way that it plays out is basically just that the towers have a cooldown. Some more tower combinations like a freezing tower might have added some depth to the strategy.
The freezing tower is a great idea. I was trying to come up with more during the jam, but nothing interesting enough to be a separate tower came to mind in time for me to implement. I think the idea for reshaping the loop I mentioned in the game page would help with the reflavored cooldown problem, but I ran into trouble with it and ran out of time.
Thanks for checking out my game. I had a good time trying yours.
Very cool idea! I loved how the loop was interpreted here to be the cyclical fire rate. I saw your post from the GMTK discord and I hope you check out my game!
Your game has been checked out and it's a cool one! I left a more detailed comment over there.
Thank you so much for going over to play it. Very appreciated!
A little bit easy, but it gave the idea of the game.
I really like the idea behind this game, and I see where you were going with it when time crunch stopped you; in essence a loop circuit like this is a shot cooldown by another name, but being able to resize it would give the player the trade-off between more towers and optimal placement, at the cost of longer cooldowns on everything. And that's a really cool idea. I think my only critique would be the targeting of the towers; my guess is that they currently check for the closest enemy and shoot at it, but a lot of tower defense games default to shooting at the first enemy on the path which is in range. And I think in a few places, targeting nearest rather than targeting first leads to unreliable tower attack behavior. But, all that being said, I had fun with it, and everything being made from scratch is super impressive! I would absolutely play a full version of this with the features in it which you didn't have time to implement for the jam. Outstanding work!
It was fun to play. I wish it had more levels. I’d spend hours playing them.
I really like tower defense games (heck, I made one as well), and this one was such a joy to play through. Great presentation.
Too bad you haven't managed to do something extra with the loops, as currently they're mostly just a replacement for a simple cooldown timer. But still, I really like what I see, and I think your planned feature of the player being able to move the loops and similar is a great foundation to work off of. I wish there were more levels!
Good job (with the font as well!). :)
Thanks for playing. After finishing the jam I wasn't sure how well the project had turned out, but getting this kind of comment from an outside perspective has really made my day!
Nice we both made tower defence games!
I really enjoyed this and really love how you used the loop concept! I really wanted to play more with more enemies and towers so really think your on to something here! Well done!
Nice. I wanted to create more enemies and towers as well, but real life got in the way, and time crunch will time crunch. Thanks for playing!
My Review (Remember to rate my game too!):
The game has very nice visuals and is visually very appealing. That’s what caught my attention the most. It’s an interesting idea and uses the “LOOP” theme well.
I wish the tutorial had been a little clearer, or the first level had been a little more introductory, because to be honest… I had no idea what I was doing. Also, I managed to place all four towers and still lost. I didn’t understand much (probably my fault for not speaking enough English).
Overall, the game has a really good concept, but there are times when you don’t know what to do.
Thanks for checking out my game! I was really happy with some of the art I made, but with the backgrounds being so plain I wasn't sure what someone else would think of it. I'm glad to hear it looks good.
I tried to keep the tutorial quick and minimalist, but I guess I relied too much on players being familiar with tower defense games already. I'm not quite sure which detail was poorly communicated, so here is a (hopefully) more clear explanation of the game:
The goal is to prevent enemies from reaching your castle. You can do this by placing towers on the Loop. There is no limit on how many towers you have, instead you spend points to place them, and you get more points by defeating enemies. Also, towers can be placed on any tile of the loop, not just the corners. Once you defeat all enemies the next level is unlocked for you to play.
I just wish it was longer! The visuals and audio are very very good!
