How does your game fit the theme?
It is a duelling game where you have to duel again and again every 10 seconds until a king is defeated

I would like to thank everyone for your many valuable comments in the section and your constructive feedback!
As some of you stated, to widen tactics and strategies to win, the weaker pieces should be buffed, while also several people mentioned to add a button to validate piece selection to not have to wait the timer to end every time.
So, that creates the first update of the game, which will be released just after the jam ends:
[UPDATE v1.1.0 -to be released just after the jam ends-]:
UI:
- Addition of a "Ready" button to validate piece selection
- Fix the cauldron bug
Gameplay tweaks:
Pawn
- It cannot die from The Jester
- If it survives a duel, it will be promoted to a Queen ["Queen Promotion" special move]
Knight
- The first time a knight is used in a duel, regardless of the duel's outcome, it will also take down a random opponent piece from their team. ["Fork" special move] (used only once in the game by each player)
Bishop
- If a bishop loses the duel while having another bishop in the team: Destroy the opponent's piece as well. ["Double Fianchetto" special move]
These gameplay tweaks should make the strategies more exciting and the kings more vulnerable, in order to increase tension.
Thank you again for your constructive feedback, and keep it coming -it means a lot-!
It's an interesting idea! I think there needs to be more counterplay from the lower pieces like how the queen can be used to defeat the king. Maybe have the pawn be used to make a copy of the piece that the opponent plays that round. Maybe give the knight some "fork" ability to attack both in this battle and the next one by adding its point value to the next round and/or be able to defend against a jester/queen from the grave on that next turn. Effectively more special behavior for each piece to increase the tactical value. As right now, effectively once you clear the Queen and Jester from your opponent, you should always play your king. Which I guess shows the importance in Chess Openings though lol. Still solid core idea!
These are some great and creative ideas, thank you!! I will definitely take them into consideration. Yes, the key is to add counterplay from the weaker pieces through special behaviour. Perhaps the special moves can be in the context of the actual special moves in real chess. Like the fork move as you said of the knight, or the pawn could be promoted/turned into a queen if it successfully survives a duel. Also, the first time a pawn is used it can have some more power (just like in real chess when it moves 2 squares) - or perhaps a "en passant" like special move. Really appreciate your input!
The artstyle is amazing! Like other people said, the player can`t do a good strategy when it is almost always better to play your strongest piece. Maybe like in the boardgame "Stratego" some pieces like pawns could counters Joker or another pieces. The game is funny anyways and easy to play!
Thank you for your feedback! That's great advice, yes I will add some more mechanics to make weaker pieces have more value during battle. The pawn is already the best option to counter the Jester to take the minimum damage, but as you said it should have some more strength.
I love the pixel art, and the idea is really interesting. There's a good basis here, but there does need to be some way of preventing toy from always picking the strongest unit, as others have pointed out.
Thank you for your words and feedback!
Creative spin on a wacky rock paper scissors thing. It'd be nice to be able to skip the 10 seconds while facing the AI.
Thank you for your feedback!
The premise is interesting, but I agree with others that I'm not entirely sure why you wouldn't just pick your strongest piece repeatedly. It would be nice to skip the wait time for piece selection as well.
Also, not sure how this relates to the theme entirely.
Thank you for your feedback. This game is build to scale and in the future is going to receive updates with increased opponent difficulty based on an elo system, to not allow the same strategies to be used all the time. For now, picking your strongest piece early will probably win you pieces but doing it all the time will also risk losing your strongest pieces and king power (for example the best way to counter a jester is with a pawn), losing quickly your rook, jester or even losing the game if you use your king repeatedly from the beginning.
Regarding the theme, it relates to the aspect of rounds and duelling again and again doing the same thing (just picking a piece) in order to win.
Good looking game with a nice cohesive art style
Thank you very much!
Very interesting game. Dit not expect such a twist on chess. The artwork looks great.
Thank you so much!
It looks really beautiful! Great job on that! I'm just not sure how the game fits the themes?
Thank you! Well, it is the aspect of rounds and duelling again and again doing the same thing (just picking a piece) in order to win.
I see, that's cool! Hope you can develop the game further in the future!
By the way, it would be great if you could also rate my game! :)
I already did buddy :)
Very creative game! nice job! if i you take feedback : making the timer faster or being able to validate the chess piece would have been better
Thank you very much for the feedback! Yes, I'm going to add a button to validate the selection in the next update
interesting idea, I liked it, and I also found a bug? If you click on the lights, the strip increases :)
Thank you! Ohh you are right, I thought I removed it but it seems it slipped into release. Thank you letting me know!
Nice unique game. Would be nice to confirm my choice rather than wait out the full 10 seconds, alot of the time I made my choice in the first 2 seconds and had no intention of changing my mind so happily would have clicked a second time to confirm rather than waitout the timer.
Thank you for your suggestion! Yes, I will add this in the next update :)
The game is really cool and well polished, the SFX r perfect, great job!
Thank you very much!
Such a cool game! Really reminds me of the E-Card game in Kaiji (pretty similar).
I really enjoyed this game! As I got closer to the end of the game and stakes got higher, the mechanics became really engaging and interesting. Great work!
I'm very glad you enjoyed it! Thank you!
Hello! I thought your mechanic had depth. Its like a combination of rock paper scissors and war. The art is also very nice, its atmospheric to be in this huge chess room. I did feel a little frustrated that I did not know whether the other side was trying to be strategic or not, so I could not try to predict there moves. The ello and multiplier systems you want to add though would fix that. Great job on submitting!
Thank you for this detailed review! Yes, as you said, the elo system will help build recognizable patterns on each difficulty to value more the ability to predict the opponent's strategies.
Interesting path you take and i loved chess theme games!
Happy to know you found it interesting!
This was fun, and the art style is great. It's actually kind of immersive.
That's great to hear! Thank you very much!
Interesting idea! One of the more creative ones I have seen!!
Thanks so much, so good to hear!
Wow, very cool, it feels like rock paper scissor but card game and chess theme. I also feel some mathematician could really "solve" this game. Anywy, lovely idea!
Thank you so much!
