That pixel art style is gorgeous! The puzzle design is amazing, too. You took a concept that seems so simple and led the player through a deep dive. Even the music and sound effects are on point. Wonderful work.

50 levels for a jam is very impressive! It's a seemingly easy concept to grasp that is taken to very challenging heights, though I would have liked to see an indication of where portals were going to take me. When snake tiles start to overlap it's easy to lose track of what path was taken.

Overall though it's very polished and enjoyable!

Two hours of straight playing but I did it. I have conquered the Cosmic Fruit Loops. Goodness

The art style is really appealing and the presentation in general is very effective and complements it well! I was also very impressed by the amount of content in the game, of course. 49 puzzle levels with gimmicks that kept iterating on each other is a lot, I was not expecting it to go on that long. Major props for that! The earlier levels made me wonder if the game was actually going to ramp up in difficulty or not, but they started to get tricky too and they were totally leading up to the later levels anyway lol, good job.

Level 42 gave me a run for my money. For some reason it felt like I was either one block too short or one block too long?? Either way I threw myself at it until it worked and eventually I was the right length lol. Easily the hardest level to me

Looping-around-fruit Snake is one of the coolest concepts I've seen. Would be a lot better if you let the snake move when holding the button instead of just pressing, but can definitely see this game becoming the next must-play puzzle game.

I like the mix of looping on yourself and looping around the fruit. Worked together well and had a great aesthetic!

This game is totally up my alley. I love the puzzles, the art, and the music. This is one of my two favourite games of the jam so far :)

I got stuck on level 39 though, and I don't understand why this is not accepted as a solution. What am I missing in terms of rules? Or is it a bug? Also, thank you for providing level selection! 50 levels for a jam is impressive, great job!

Glad you enjoyed our game so much!

So when the snake first enters a portal, visually, I set it so that the snake head would appear in the other portal so players would know which portal they are coming out of. However, I think this had the unintended effect of making you think that the head is in two places at once. Sorry about that; it'll be fixed in a post jam update! Thanks for the catch!

Submitted

Hm... I did backtrack to the original portal to make sure it's filled, at least I think I did, the portals are tricky

Submitted(+2)

The artwork very good! Really good music! Really polished gameplay loop! But I didnt understand why in some cases it wasn't consuming the fruits, so I was just skipping those levels

Really liked how you implemented the theme into the snake game. Bro why the Level 5 is so hard. I tried a lot but couldn't do it lol. I will try again later.

Pixel art also looks great and sound design is done well too. Solid game overall. Great work!

Smart twist on the ourosboros sub-theme this year. Excellent level level design, art, and music as well!

Beautiful game! I can’t believe how many puzzles you made! I got to level 37 and had to call it there because I could not for the life of me figure out why the game wasn’t considering me as wrapping the fruit while I was part-way through the portals. Is the exit portal not considered part of the snake when you are part-way through?

Anyway, up until the portal issues I encountered, every puzzle felt appropriately difficult and fair, so it’s super impressive that you built the game and 30+ awesome puzzles!

I also really love the use of different fruit to take up different configurations of grid squares.

Developer

The portal was one of our last additions to the game, so some of its clarity was forsaken. The exit portal is not actually considered a part of the snake! One example of this is in level 34, where you have to backtrack through the portal in the lower right corner. Again; probably should have some more portal tutorial levels or try to make it abundantly clear. So glad you enjoyed the rest of the game though!

I'm a huge sucker for limited palette pixel art; have to say its extremely well done, especially the shine on the fruits! I want to keep going but unfortunately after hours of gameplay my brain is melting and I only just got to level 39.

OK WAIT I found the skip level button and I've given every level a fair shot and I just want to say these are some of the most mind bogglingly insane level designs I've seen this jam. Like the portals in levels 47-49 were just crazy. Kudos to your level/game designers!

Developer(+1)

Really glad you enjoyed the art style! That was a design decision made really early on, and we're glad we stuck it out till the end.

As for the level design, the amount of big brain our level designer is can't be put into words. He was making levels all night...

Developer

Thank you playing our game! And I’m so glad you enjoyed our levels ;) Don’t worry my brain was also melting while coming up with them too haha. I’m glad I could make them SUPER hard towards the end!

Beautiful, soothing, and very well executed concept!

A solid puzzle game with great graphics and sound. My only nitpick is that the difficulty progression feels a little off to me, but the puzzles themselves are excellent. Stellar work!

FEZ REFERENCE SPOTTED

I have no idea where you found that track, but that music is definitely a remix of Adventure by Disasterpeace.

I have no horse in this race, but I went and listened to that song to see for myself. It has a similar ostinato, sure, but the melody is not the same.

Submitted(+2)

Hmmm… yeah, on a second listen, you’re probably right. It’s just that the ostinato is the most distinct part of the song(s) for me. I guess that’s what pattern recognition does to a person.

very cute snake and the game is well made! also is that inspired by Void Stranger?

Developer(+1)

A FELLOW VOID STRANGER FAN??

Actually the pitch of this was based a little bit more on the puzzles you find In Pokémon gyms! The retro like graphics were meant to emulate that Game Boy feel. (But Void Stranger does rule. Gray FTW. Also Familiar Life from the OST definitely made me cry)

Saw it on stream and had to go do what Mark couldn't. I honestly thought the game would be over by around level 10, but then you started introducing new mechanics and I felt like I'd discovered a secret game world that no one else knew about. The puzzles go pretty challenging but were quite fun all the way up until the portal mechanic. That one probably could use some more work as it's quite unclear what's going on with the portals in a lot of levels. Level 49 was hell to finally clear due to the difficulty in being certain where your snake has even teleported. beat all 50 levels, though, and I ain't mad about the hour or so you made me spend doing that. Keep it up.

Love the music by the way

Developer

Thank you very much!

Yea, as you can probably tell the portal mechanic was the last thing that we implemented. We probably need some better visual indicators for how the snake is going to move; it's kind of unintuitive as it is right now. Thanks again for checking out our game! We're very glad you enjoyed!

Submitted(+2)

The art and mechanics are unique and mesh with the theme very well! Not a huge puzzle guy, had to skip a few levels. However, when I completed a level, it was satisfying. Nicely done!

Developer(+1)

Thanks; that means a lot!

Our team was in debate about whether or not to keep the level skip, but ultimately we're glad we did. I think we're also considering adding a video tutorial for each of the levels in the future; there are a few levels that even we can't remember the solution for (except we know that they were solved when we made them...)

Developer

Thank you! Just played your game too and I gotta say it was a trippy but very awesome experience :D
