Asteroids with upgrades is such a cool idea. Didn't really see the theme though...

Developer

Thanks for the comment! The idea is that the bullets loop around the screen. I can see that it may be a bit weird interpretation, to me it was obvious but I was the one who created it obviously. Originally I thought about a platformer shooter where bullets loop around with different upgrades each loop but I settled for asteroids because I thought it'd be more fitting. Thanks for playing tho and next time maybe I'll try to make the theme more apparent! :D

I really liked the game, very creative. at the start I was trying to figure out what the looping mechanic was (cause I don't read the text lol). Then found out that bullets go off the screen to the other side.

Game is easy to understand and very enjoyable, personally I just kept spinning and pressing the mouse button to shoot, 9/10 times that worked just fine.

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback! Yeah not enough playtesting and it seems staying in place is the best strategy, gotta fix that :D

really great game with nice counterfit upgrades, just felt that the player's mouvement felt a bit out of control somme times

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I see many people talking about the controls, I'll try to rework them for a future full version if I find some time :D

I enjoyed it! Simple idea, but nicely done! liked all the different upgrades with both nerfs and buffs, and also the mechanic, tho there is a bug when you die just at the same time you get a level up! Good job :))

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'll look into the bug thanks!

Game was fun, liked almost everything about it. My only nitpick is that the rocket turning felt very slippery which made standing still almost always the best strategy when playing. It would be fun in the future if there was more incentive for making the player move. Liked the upgrades with the up and downsides, making you think before picking one.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Yeah I have a couple of ideas in mind to make the player move since I noticed a lot of players prefer staying in place. Glad you liked it :D

Really fun! I like that each upgrade also has a drawback, really adds to the strategizing. Also very creative idea, love how you can use screen looping to your advantage. Here's my high score

Developer

Thanks! I'm glad you enjoyed it, that's also a nice score :D

Roguelike Asteroids is a good idea that I would like to see developed further.

Three things that I would suggest changing after the jam:
1) make the screen bigger - it felt a bit too cramped, which made me never want to pick a speed upgrade because the risk of crashing in asteroids by accident seemed too high;
2) change the shoot input from mouse click to space; and change the thruster from space to W (also, maybe duplicate these controls on the arrow keys) - it feels a bit odd to use a mouse just for a button click; and
3) make some smaller and faster asteroids (this goes well in combination with making the screen bigger) - another reason I avoided speed upgrades was because I didn't feel like I needed them because the asteroids were all big and slow.

Developer

Thank you very much for the feedback! Yeah the controls weren't as thought out as I'd like them to be. I already have some ideas to develop the games and yours are really great!

Good luck!
I've followed you so that I can see what happens.

It looks like a simple asteroids clone, but I think this has some really clever design elements that make it quite addictive and fun. I am firmly of the opinion that most game loops can be improved by being a roguelike. The choice of clever upgrades means you can go for different builds. It's very satisfying to start seeing the asteroids pop like popcorn. It has that Vampire Survivors like progression of going from being able to kill 1 thing at a time, to killing everything around you.

I would suggest one thing to borrow from the VS style of game is to start offering upgrades that "level up" your existing choices, rather than always presenting new choices (or basically have a higher chance to show choices you've already picked again, but it's important to present it as an upgrade on an existing choice, to reduce decision fatigue). I find that these choices are often fighting against each other so picking two opposing ones without realizing it can cancel out and take you backwards in terms of progression. Whereas if I could reliably keep enhancing the same upgrade my "build" would have more of a sense of identity.

Also controller support would be really good!

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I thought about having upgrades that would make specific builds, like once you take duplicate you maybe had more stuff related to that but I couldn't fit it in the time span of the jam. Controller support is a great idea too! I also consider remaking the game in Godot as I want to learn it more. And current project in Unity is so messy I don't know if I can work with it for much longer haha

I love Asteroids, and I'm starting to discover that I love roguelikes! The idea of adding powerups to Asteroids is cool, but then some of the ideas for powerup go above and beyond, like the penetration one! I'm a bit miffed that there's always a trade-off, but it does let you choose what you want to focus on. Also the overall retro feel with the art and sound effects is awesome!

I hope you'll try out and rate my entry too!

Developer(+1)

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I will try it out later for sure!

one of the more creative takes on asteroids - i like how the 'penetration' bullets bounce of the asteroid before hitting another. this could use some music and it would be cool (or maybe hellish idk) if you could die from your own bullets. it would also be good to see when the cooldown is over. nice game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, yeah the cooldown indicator is a great idea! The music I made was kinda rushed and I feel like I could do better, maybe add more and let the player choose. Dying from your own bullets sounds like a fun negative side effect of a really powerful powerup, I will think about it :D

Very well done! Love the minimalistic art style. Fun game overall.

Developer

Appreciate it :DDD

Good asteroids clone, could look more into having the player wrap around the screen but overall good.

Developer(+1)

I did have that in mind, maybe I'll add it as an upgrade in the future and apply looping effects to the player. Thanks for the feedback :D

Just because it's simple doesn't mean its not fun. Really good idea building off of a classic, and great execution!

Developer

Thanks! Appreciate it :D

Classic game, fun execution. :)

I was feeling quite powerful until one sneaked up on me.

Thanks a lot for the comment :DD

Nice take on the theme! A challenging but well executed, fun game!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback :DDD

the upgrade descriptions are funny haha. nice game!

Developer

Thanks! I really tried to make them funny, I'm happy I succeeded :D

This is hard. I didn't get past level 2 . The control just would not understand what I wanted the ship to do :D. But the feeling of hitting an asteroid that looped on purpose, man, that felt good. Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the feedback! I'm glad you liked it :D

Really fun game, when I decided I wanted to make a roguelike for this jam one of my ideas was actually an asteroids roguelike - you definitely did the concept justice here, great job!

Developer

Thanks a lot! Looking at your game, your words mean a lot to me, appreciate it lad :D
