Ranked from 145 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does your game fit the theme?
The game is centered around making a musical loop track. The player also will loop back to the beginning when they go off screen. The number of loops played is also used as a score (the lower the better).

Great concept for a loop based game , easy to understand and fun to play ! Looking forward to more levels! ; )

It's   super   cool  that   we're   running away   from   the   almighty playhead   lol   love   the concept!

Nice game. You got five stars for Audio :)

Very good concept and execution although it's pretty short (but well, understandable (had actually tried to make a daw in godot) and considering you have to set up the ui in 4 days, it's pretty good! )

Very interesting concept and great execution!

Love the beat we get after activating all the notes. The pixel-style graphics are really cute too, especially the character we're playing as.

It was very fun to play. I'd love to try completing the other levels, if you intend on developing the game further.

Good job!

The only disappointing part of this one is how quickly it ends, if only it had at least one more stage hahaha. Can't wait to see what y'all come up with next with this type of concept!

Cool little time, and a real fun concept, definitely pretty simple and short, and I also would like if jumping on top of the empty platforms did something, but there's quite a good bit of good stuff here!

Nice game!  The platforming mechanics were a bit simple, but I kept going through loops because I wanted to hear the next instrument. It's a very creative idea. Well done!

Cute little game but the controls feel a little off. I'm pretty sure there was no jump buffering or coyote time. Also it was easy to bump your head on higher platforms when trying to make a jump. Really nice style and idea tho.

Developer(+2)

There actually was both jump buffering and coyote time. I didn’t have much time to tune them though. Definitely something I’ll be working on after the jam!

Fair enough. I think it was the head bonking that was the biggest problem.

Awesome game. Love the concept! Love the cursor guy! This game has also earned itself a place in my highly prestigious "things that somehow exist" collection. Congrats on the awesome entry. I had the same interpretation of the theme if you'd like to check out my game too.

Haha amazing thanks for the honour of being in your collection 😂

Really cool game concept! Made me wish there would be more to the song. The build you have now already feels so good to play and really polished :) I do think there should be a punishment for getting zapped by the timeline laser, but for now it was a nice casual experience.

Developer

Thanks! We did plan to have lives or have some of the platforms deactivate when dying, but ran out of time. Will definitely be in the updated build later on!

great idea. love the way the melody develops keeping the audio surprising throughout. nice work!

Cool idea! I wish there was more to it! Also the patterns can be kind of hard to navigate, maybe the player movement could use some refining.

I love it when players are able to affect the music of the game. Nice creative concept.

Very creative and satisfying to light up all the notes and hear the music build up!

I think the concept of a music loop is so cool! Nice job!

Submitted(+2)

That's a great game idea! I like the music which came out at the end too :)

Submitted(+2)

OK for someone like me that can't combine 4 notes without blowing someone's ear drums out this is humbling, you are using music in such an interesting way, here take my rating you've eared it

Nice idea, I like it! Also the fact that you're playing a human cursor is very fun.

I must say that the platforming was a bit frustrating, I felt like I had to focus a lot for my jumps, as the notes are very close to each other (both vertically and horizontally), it's very easy to get stuck on a jump, fall, get killed, and being reset on the left. Even worse when that happens on the right part of the screen, because you respawn on the left, and the playing marker kills you on spawn. I know you can loop from right to left, but then you have to run all the way to try your jumps again, which can become annoying quickly. At least the respawning is quick so that's not that serious, but definitely something I would improve if I were to work on the game. And that leads me to another thing, which

I feel like the game is more of a platformer than a music/rhythm game, which tricked me a little bit because I was expecting being able to do some composition using the notes by jumping on them or something, and eventually I was just focusing so much on platforming and not dying that I wasn't listening that much to the music. Which I think is a shame as it's called "Midi Madness".

I guess I'm being critical because I'm a developer and a musician, and while I really love the initial idea of the game, I may have been expecting something and was kind of frustrated (and that's my problem, not the game's). But, it's not my game, and overall I believe that it's a great entry and a cool take on the theme!
Looking forward to your next version with that second level!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for all the feedback! Definitely will be working on that stuff for the updated version later on! Glad you still liked it!

ahh was very atisfying to have the song develop over time!! could totally see this being expanded into a larger project, hope that you do. we also created a music-loop based game, and it's lovely to see how other people approached it :)
