Awesome chiptunes (the title screen one went surprisingly long) and charming Gameboy graphics. Blending Tetris-style falling but with the objective of cramming as many high-value blocks as you can rather than clearing rows feels like a great concept to me.
Can confirm that sometimes the game will skip showing your score without you seemingly pressing anything, though I haven't been able to reproduce it, but it does happen for certain if you happen to be holding anything to move a piece when you game over. There's some wonky behavior with mining downwards, but nothing that would matter unless you were purposefully trying to break the game: https://files.catbox.moe/dyt88p.mp4 Also a small silly oversight, but trying to move diagonally makes the player character slide around without the sprite animating.
Thank you so much for your feedback! Also yes, my teammate Taz did an awesome job with the music! And I had a lot of fun making all the art and animations!
That video is hilarious, lol! Thank you for sharing those bugs. I'd seen a few people report the score screen not showing, and that will definitely get patched up in a future update. This is the first time I've seen a collision issue though, so I appreciate you reporting that the player can glitch through walls! Hadn't seen that one before.
I'm really glad you enjoyed playing, thank you so much for your time and feedback!
I feel honored that my music is complimented by someone named after an instrument and has a PFP of the goat Zero............................
Heheh, yes the title theme is very intentionally lengthy. It was going to be even longer, before I realized we had two-hours left before the deadline! XD
I'm sure the inspiration of the music is crystal clear.
Cool game with good ideas, the art and music are consistent and looks really good as well. Gathering with Tetris feel! Wish we could see the score once the bags get filled up!
Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed playing the game! And yes, a few people have reported bugs with the score, so that's a feature I'm working to fix in the next update.
Thanks for the feedback!
The art is very cool love the green aesthetic (Green is my favorite color particularly forest green) and retro vibe.
Menu is cool too, love the little animation and shades of green.
The music is cool as well, fits the game well.
As for mechanics this is awesome! It would have been so cool if the gems were to merge together like those games? I feel like that’s where you got the inspiration from.
I can see the very similarity to my game from your comment XD I literally was gonna make a pocket inventory sort of like yours in a way but didn’t have enough time to create the art or ask my partner to make it sadly…
I think this concept is so cool, just if the gems were to merge together, I think the game would last longer since it was very short. Also, it be cool to have it where if you mine all the little piles, you would like to win the game entirely but that would involve lots of playtesting obliviously.
My highest score was like 129 I think, it was hard to screenshot it since it would go to menu quickly. Maybe next time have a button? because when I went to screenshot, it would go to menu since it says to click “any button” to get restart the game, lol
Overall, great job on the game jam!!! and I wish you two luck on the game jam!!!
A small bug I ecnountered (the diamond would wig out/jitter when trying to be placed like this) :
Glad you like the green Game Boy vibes! Would you say that your elemental power is... green?
I really enjoyed making all the art and animations, and my teammate Taz did a wonderful job on the music!
Also I had never considered a merge mechanic, that's something I'll think about for a future update! For the pocket minigame, the main inspiration was just regular classic Tetris. With the twist just being gems instead of blocks.
I hadn't even considered people trying to screenshot their score!! That's my bad, I made that basically impossible. I'm taking a list of all the bug reports from this jam so I can fix them all and re-release an updated version. I'll add that to my bug list! And the diamond jittering was something I thought was fixed before I submitted for the jam, so I'll revisit that one.
I'm so happy you enjoyed playing the game!! Thank you so much for your kind words and for leaving such helpful feedback!
For this jam, this the best game I've seen so far!
The pocket like tetris is very interesting and cool! And the art style with the animations are just so clean!
The first 5 stars in all of the categories for me in this jam! Very good job!
Thank you for playing and for the kind words!! We're stoked to see people really enjoying our game!
Thank you so much, that means a lot!! I'm really happy you liked the game. Seeing people enjoy playing has been awesome!
Cool Game Boy style, the pocket inventory mechanic worked well!
Thank you so much, I'm happy you enjoyed playing!
Love the art style, and the concept. I really enjoyerd it !
Thank you! The art was super fun to make, and Tazamo did an excellent job with the music! Really glad you enjoyed playing!
Oooh I love the Game Boy style! Clever concept and good audio design. Unfortunately there was no score so I didn't really know how "well" I did (besides that there were some chonky diamonds in there), but that's just a detail. Well done to your team!
Thank you very much, glad you enjoyed playing! There's supposed to be a score displayed at the end, so there must be a bug if you didn't get a score. Thanks for reporting that, I appreciate your feedback!
Gorgeous little Game Boy inspired game with an accurate color palette, sound and presentation. Very cool this wasn't made in GB Studio but handcrafted from GDevelop! The inventory management system and game's concept around organising your pocketful of gems is a unique one that makes a lot of sense. I liked that you could choose not to pick up gems so there was a level of strategy over how to organise your stack. I think a scoring element or something to reflect how well the player has performed in their task could help add some replayability to the game. Good work!
Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed playing! Working in the Game Boy inspired color palette was super fun when making all the art and assets. And I think my teammate Taz did an awesome job with the sounds and music!
Thank you again for playing and for your kind words, I appreciate it!
Ahhhh why no webGL export!? It’s awesome yet most people won’t download it!!! (it’s an extra step, it takes more time, it’s riskier). Was there a technical limitation here?!
I had a blast, the sounds are great and the pocket inventory management is awesome! Loved the old school vibe <3
Long story short, we didn’t realize we could export the game to browser outside of gd.games, so we did what we thought was the next-best thing. Admittedly, Inferno is still a little green with GDevelop, and I haven’t a clue about any of it. We have since learned that web exports are not only possible in this way, but is unlimited use and easy enough to do!
Having seen the other submissions being in-browser, we have now fixed this on the game’s page so everyone can more easily experience our little gem… >:P
Really happy you enjoyed the game! The game page has been updated so you can now play Pick Pocket in browser. It was very fun to make the art and assets, and my teammate Tazamo did an amazing job on the sounds and music!
I re-played it on the itch.io page, well done for the export but most of all well done for your work! It’s really cool <3
I found this game both fun and nostalgic,it totally gives off Game Boy vibes, in the best way possible. I really appreciated little improvements like being able to mine while walking. I played a couple of runs and the gameplay is super intuitive right from the start.
Luckiest Person alive!
Thank you so much for your feedback and kind words! I really appreciate you playing the game, and I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it!
First of all i really liked playing. You've got a truly good concept. And the visuals are nice too. Best game so far!
Thank you so much, that means a lot!! I had a ton of fun making it, and my teammate Taz did such a great job with the sounds and music! I'm so happy you enjoyed playing!
