This is a pure fun arcade game. But the loops feel a bit tacked on. The game is stylish but doesnt run well on a browser.  But the game is a good turn-your-brain off time killing fun time

Developer

Make sure your browser has hardware acceleration on!

Such a cool idea and a really well executed, stylish game. The general aesthetic of it is amazing and the shooting feels good. I think a custom crosshair would have helped with the later loops when there were lots of enemies. I had a lot of fun with this one though, great work!

This game is positively beautiful! It makes your spirits rise into the air in much the same way that bricks don't! Really fun! Thank you for this wonderful experience!

Also I'd appreciate feedback on my submission if you get a chance!

Oh another thing! You did really great with the menus and UI. It all goes together really nicely. So great work!

Developer

I appreciate this comment as I was subbing in custom button sprites and fonts at the last minute to basic Unity UI elements.  Shhh don't tell anyone

Oh nice! lol glad you had time for it

The visuals of game are amazing and the gameplay loop along with that bgm gives an solid action packed gamepaly vibe. Impressive work i would say.

Really cool graphics and sound design and gameplay loop! The whole shebang!

I didn't know   Sage   Dude   was   chill   like   that   lol

Splendid   job,   the   music   in   tandem   with   the   animation   creates   a   really   cool   atmosphere  .   The   starting   animation   where   Sage   Dude   kicks   his   surf board   up   &   takes  off   was   so   funny   to   me.   I   was   like   "there   goes   my hero".

Impressive what you guys were able to put together in 4 days. The theme, the gameplay and the visuals are coherent and work well together. It was sometimes rather hard to see what was attacking me. Nice work, team 4Poneys 👏

Submitted(+1)

Visually very impressive game.  It has a fun coherent theme that is reflected in all the art assets and the music.  My only point of feedback would be to ramp up the chaos/amount of things to shoot better. It was a little overwhelming at the start.

Great entry, good work! Thanks for sharing <3

One of the most all-around impressive games I've seen! The art is my favorite of any game I've played so far (bonus points for great animation), the music and sound design is great, and the gameplay feels smooth. Fantastic job!

Developer

Thank you so much!  We had a great team.

Submitted(+1)

I'm really impressed with the visuals! I feel like it could have been a mini-game in a larger 3D platformer or something like that :)

Developer

We definitely had some Playstation/Nintendo style influences in there :D  Thanks!

Submitted(+1)

the music combined with the way the dude moves is a vibe. Having to trace the loop ruined the vibe a little tho.

Developer

My personal goal for this was in fact "vibes" so I'm glad that delivered somewhat.  Thanks for playing!

Fantastic graphic style. Very fitting sound/ music.

I see the game mechanics, but had a hard time actually enjoying:

  • Drawing the loop needs much much to exact following.
  • shooting enemies is fair. BUT I was killed several times and did not see at all from where/ how ... That was totally annoying and stopped playing.

Still, congratulations. Great game for a jam!

Developer(+1)

We agree, our incoming bullets aren't a good enough indicator.  Plus the optical illusion of curved tracks--all bullets are "straight" but everything is moving--makes it hard to intentionally dodge, especially with all the craziness happening visually.

The loop mechanic has pros and cons and is pretty finicky, and that's after we made it easier in testing!  It was a very last-minute feature.

Submitted(+1)

This is quite an impressive entry, there is a lot here, congrats to the team!

This turtle doesn't need a Sage or some monk achieving enlightenment, but a lawyer to sue the landlord.

Dude would also benefit from a buff every loop to be able to scale to the humungus amount of nightmare fueled parasite (no but seriously, you can't even see the turtle past loop 15 xD)

Also, what did you use for the cloth animation on WebGL? Custom solution?

Developer(+1)

Cloth asset:  It's an old Unity Asset script called Dynamic Bone.  It's a bit tricky to work with and not the most performant, but for a few ribbons it does the job!  It does chains only, not a grid like cloth.  It works best with normal human movements for small pieces like hair ends, sleeves, necklaces, etc so getting it to behave at these speeds was a difficult balance.

A bit confusing sometime but Pretty impressive visually, anim side !

Developer

Thank you for playing our entry 🙇‍♂️

The game is interesting and weird at the same time. This is an interesting idea, I like the artwork and the sage model. Great job 4Poneys :)!

Developer

Here I was thinking we made it too conventional--I wanted it weirder :D

Thanks for playing!

First on-rails shooter I've seen! It plays very nice, wonderfully done. I wonder if you might consider putting in health pickups in the loop around, I found it too hard to trace the loop accurately enough to get some health back at the start of the loop.  Congrats on a great jam!

Developer

Thank you so much.

There was some discussion about their being pickups, but wasn't something we could put time into implementing for the jam.

Submitted(+2)

I really enjoyed the approach to the theme. The controls felt good and the mini-game gave a change-up to the gameplay to keep you on your toes. Great work!

Developer

Thanks, glad you liked it :)

Submitted(+2)

The game is dedicated to those videos where turtles are cleaned with paint and other rubbish. That's a great idea. Sticky, but quite difficult

Developer

whilst researching barnacles on turtles, lots of nightmare imagery 😆

Thank you for playing and happy to read you liked it :)

Submitted(+2)

I like the art style man its cool

Developer

Thanks 😊

Submitted(+2)

Very cool! Good integration of the theme in a very nice looking game. So polished for a jam entry, good amount of feedback on hit and the loop healing mechanic was a nice touch! Only nitpick is aiming but saw you didn't had time to had the crosshair. Excellent work!

Thank you so much.

Yeah, there was a lot we wanted to add but ran out of time. One big lesson we learnt is to lock the idea in early. We spent most of the first 2 days trying to come up with an idea which resulted in less time actually making the game.😭Was the first gamejam for 3 out of 4 of us(2nd time for one but 1st time in a group) so lots of good lessons learnt😁

Submitted (2 edits) (+1)

Yeah I know the struggle too well! Was first jam for our team as well and we did take some time deciding on the idea, which limited what we could implement as well. But like you said, a lot of good lessons learnt and what you have in the end is definitely nothing to be ashamed of, especially for basically half the time!

Developer(+1)

I've got your game lined up on my playlist so I'll definitely get round to playing it today.

But since this is your first jam too, I hope you take part next year (I think we will for sure) so it'll be fun checking eachothers entry out again next year. 🫡

Submitted(+1)

Thanks! It's a small game but I hope you like it :)

Yeah this was a very nice experience, not speaking for the whole team but I definitely want to try again next year. I'll keep an eye out for your game!
