I’m dying to play this game but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to pet the animals! Hitting ‘A’ on my keyboard does nothing, and I have no idea what that underscore-bracket-looking thingy is supposed to be?

The rounded square icons are for the keyboard, while the circles are for controller. The keyboard key for "Interact" is the Space Bar. The "A" button is for the controller. You can also go into the settings and remap the keys if you'd prefer to use something different.
We will be adding the following to the list of controls in future games. We're still thinking on the best way to clarify icons like the Space Bar in the space available, though leaning towards adding tool tips.

I just played Fantasy Petting Farm and loved it!
I feel like there are so many games that have cute animals and often won't let players pet the cute animals. Right now I'm playing a medieval RPG with many dogs, horses, and chickens and you can't pet any of them which is a tragedy. This game letting me pet all the animals I wanted was a delight!
The idea of just petting virtual animals in video games for the joy of it (rather than in farming sims where you do it to make them happy & get more produce out of them) is an interesting concept and one I hope to see more of in the future :D

We've been so busy lately that we wanted to take it easy, and debated doing the jam. The theme seemed perfect for this simple idea of just going around and petting cute animals. It was ideal for us wanting to relax while still taking part, and we knew others would also enjoy the peaceful environment.
