This game really gave me the same feeling as when I'm sewing and repairing stuff (for my animals) - the gas and AD like the hands I grab the cloth with - very smart design! And - as in RL I get impatient, wanting to be done with just this little thing already! - I think long-term it might get a little repetitive, but all in all awesome job - also with the story and the whole shop game loop - Great!

Fantastic job! The sewing mechanic was really good. I can see this growing into a full product.

Really charming game , played 20 min straight until I beat it awesome job team!! The sewing mechanic feels amazing. Toggling the space bar and the shift key while turning with arrow keys felt very much like trying to navigate the different pedals of an irl machine but in a gamified fun way. The sound effect for that sewing machine is super crunchy, big fan. The gameloop of do thing, make money, upgrade thing, do thing, make money, payoff rent is tried and true and works for a reason. The art is really lovely and I liked the personality in each sprite portrait. The dialogue is quirky and enjoyable and the character development at the end is really sweet, BUT the endless text wayyy overstays its welcome in the intro scene. You even acknowledge this with the old lady saying something like "well I've rambled on more than enough" but then go for another like 8 text boxes lol. Also it may be a personal preference but I found the voice sfx grating. The combination of the two would have made me stop playing outside of a jam environment, which is a shame because the game is very fun and full of charm. I only say that as a piece of constructive criticism because I enjoyed the rest so much! The music is all chill and head-noddy and fits the sewing vibe very nicely. All in all, really great game and a homerun on the theme, super fun entry!!

This is fantastic feedback! I'm glad you liked it and were able to get around the hurdles of the not so shiny parts lol.

Just to further the discussion a bit more.
The voice sfx seems to be hit or miss for people. Seems like people who like animal crossing games/older n64 titles tended to like the voices while others not so much lol It would have been nice to implement a menu for audio and whatnot but that was not in the cards this time around.  Makes me wonder if it was all the voices that were the issues or specific ones. Maybe some audio mastering could have helped make it less annoying for some people?

The intro text was a double edge sword since I wanted to avoid the wall of text syndrome of jam games by blending it in with the world through conversation, but it was a lot to digest. Definitely needed more time in the oven to get the intro pacing right. Didn't help I wrote all the dialog in the last hour before publishing the game xD

I can totally see the voice sfx being a polarizing thing, having a setting to toggle it on/off seems like a perfect compromise. For me personally, I don't think the audio mastering was an issue, I just find that cartoony sped up gibberish style ear-tickling in a negative way lol. But like you said many people love it, and I didn't grow up playing Animal Crossing so that probably explains it.

I hear ya, I've done the same thing before. It's hard enough to strike a good balance with the tutorial in a regular game, let alone in a jam when you have like half a day to shoehorn something in lmao. Dialogue is great for being written in an hour btw :)

Developer(+1)

I think I will do a post jam update to add in a settings and proper quit game menu. And thanks! It was about 3am when I started writing so the fact that anything made sense was a miracle xD I was happily surprised that most of the games this year needed very little tutorial-ization  just because most concepts were straight forward, in a good way!

The game reminded me of my grandma’s old sewing machine. When I was a child, one of the most interesting things at her house was playing with the treadle and the spools of thread, although they did not like. It’s also nice to see someone else using GIMP to make sprites! :)

Developer

That's awesome! My partner sews all the time so she was my biggest inspiration for the game concept. And GIMP is such a great tool for devs!

I love the music in this game so much! I literally went to the bandcamp page and followed, so I can get an update in case the music for this is released. The game is really fun, especially if you can get in to a rotation groove and never release the spacebar. The sound from the dialog in the beginning was a little bit bitey to me, I had to skip the slow build for it all.  Other than that this was a pretty solid entry.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for checking it out, and m teammate Kounine did a fantastic job of doing the music! I believe they said they were going to put this music into a small collection on their soundcloud/bandcamp. Don't think they did it yet though.

Really cool concept—though I think the intro could use a little less text

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing!, and yeah this game had a lot of information to front load to make it playable, so either walls of text or try to make it naturally flow into dialog lol

Love the art, the audio, the mechanics, very well polished, fun to play. It also hit close to home, my mum is a tailor (now retired), and I grew up in her sewing lab, cleaning and oiling my mum sewing machines since I was a "wee lad" of 6/7 years old. A suggestion about the controls, to emulate the gesture of sewing on a machine you could change the keys to something like F, and J, and when you keep them both pressed (using both hands) the movement is straight and when you lift F the movement goes to the left vice versa with J, somewhat of inverted controls. Just a weird idea to convey the gesture of using a sewing machine. Great game, one of my favourite in the jam.

Developer(+1)

That's awesome. My partner is big into sewing which helped lead me to this concept!  And I do like that idea, no idea how well it would have worked since some of the people I watched play my game even struggled with the current controls and they are already fairly basic. I was honestly hoping to have time to make it even more simplified for controls but add in different sewing elements like thread clogs, and obstacles that popped up to slow the player down a bit.

The music is perfect! Great polish. Very immersive. All around excellent submission. Fantastic job!

Developer

Thanks Mr. Moo! Glad to see you try it out and also participate in the jam, didn't see you around the discord so thought you weren't joining this year.

Great sewing game ! Feels well-made and new to play

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

I’m loving the sewing mechanic, it’s so satisfying! And I just realized the music was made by the devs too. Amazing work :D

Developer

Thank you! The sewing mechanic took a lot of my coding time to figure out lol And my teammate Kounine did most of the music, I did a couple pieces (you can definitely tell who did what, kounine's was soo much better lol) But this feedback means a lot!

Cool idea and a fun game! The music fits well with the gameplay and enhances the atmosphere nicely, good job! :)

Developer

I appreciate the kind words! And my teammate Kounine did an astounding job with the music they created.  (You can definitely tell the couple tracks I made does not compare to theirs lol)

The sewing mechanic is fun to play and the music is very pleasant. But for a game jam, this feels like a full game where it will take more time to progress especially with how much it costs to buy the upgrades. I didn't finish the game. I only made it up to buying the window because the game is asking for more time and effort.

Other than that. It's a wonderful game.

Developer(+1)

I appreciate the feedback! And I was hoping the game felt like a full experience!

Really lovely game! It was fun upgrading the store, and the sewing mechanic was such a perfect fit for the jam theme. The music was nice too. Well done 🙂 We had a similar idea of running a shop and paying off debts, but executed it in entirely different ways... I found that really cool to see! You made such an enjoyable experience!

Developer(+1)

I thought the same thing when playing yours, crazy how a similar idea can be so drastically different!

I loved it! feels like an Animal Crossing parody, made me chuckle, I love the gameplay loop and its very on theme. the sound design is very good also!

Developer

Thank you for playing it!

The gameplay was very satisfying, great entry! However i think the numbers can be tuned a bit better, it seems like the game is set up for me to play for over an hour to complete it. A bit much for a game jam! :P

When i bought an upgrade i was pleasantly surprised with the visuals changing but disappointed that it didnt affect how much money i was making. Or maybe it did and i didnt realise.

Developer

Thanks for playing Viktor! And fair points all around. I actually didn't play test all the way through so I had no idea how long it took to beat lol

And I didn't make it very clear on the store upgrades. But every time you bought a upgrade, that improved the customer satisfaction value, which was used to multiply your earnings from each job.
