Jam
I enjoyed this jam. It helped further my knowledge in Pico-8. I would definitely participate again.

Always love me some PICO-8 entries! The ship only firing on a certain side was surely something to get used to, but after that, it was a nice little score chaser.

Sprites were doing there job and the little jingle in the background was a nice touch! Well done!

I loved this game. It’s tricky getting used to shooting port / starboard, but it’s so much fun when it starts to click. Loved the music, level design, obstacles, enemies, and the boss. Just needs a little more polish, but the idea is so awesome. Great game!

Developer

Thanks.   I'm currently thinking about making a larger version of this.

The 8-bit shanty was a jam. The game could definitely use some juice, but the core gameplay is fun! I did find the player hitbox to be too large. For example, you can get hit by rocks when you are immediately adjacent to them, but not actually overlapping. Nice work!

Developer

Thanks.   Yeah, not gonna lie I forgot to adjust the hit boxes to make it more player friendly.

Really cool idea!

I wished that the treasure stayed on screen a little longer, and that the player blinked when hit.  Sometimes it was confusing to know what side of the ship each button shot from, but that was part of the fun. The music fit the theme, but it wasn't very creative. Innovating or riffing on the song may have helped it to not feel so repetitive.

Really solid work! I didn't make it to the boss, but kinda want to try again. The art looks great given the limitations! Awesome first jam! Keep it up!

Nice and neat, a solid entry. I think Pico is mapping my gamepad buttons backward, I kept hitting the wrong fire button.

One thing I don’t understand…. how did these sea monsters get so much treasure?

Developer

I'll have to look into that.   It should be x for right and z for left

oh yknow what, that makes sense. Keyboard Z and X correspond to gamepad South and West – opposite orders horizontally.

I got to the Kraken, but couldn't beat it as I only had 1 heart left by that point. But 540 in score. I feel like it's probably better to just avoid everything as much as possible instead of going for treasure? I did get confused by my left and rights, haha.

I liked the way you handled your pixel art.

Thanks.  I had a lot of fun trying to get enemies to look good at 8x8
