How did you incorporate the given theme in your game?
I made a collection minigame, where you collect the clothing (categories ) for the dress up section. The clothing in the dress up section are mostly inspired by 2000er fashion.

The art style fits well, and the controls work smoothly. The game makes sense in its design.

My only issue was the lack of player feedback when selecting items during the collection stage. I found myself clicking repeatedly without knowing if or when I successfully selected something. Adding some visual or audio cue to indicate that a selection was made would have been great.

The quiz to pick your model and background is such a creative idea! Really enjoyed being challenged to collect the clothes myself before dress up. No pain, no gain!

neat! can't say i played many of these games as they were popular, but i do remember the vibes

really cool music too, did you make it?

Developer

Thanks for playing! Sadly I didn´t make the music. I have listed all songs with their specific creators in the “About” menu section. So if you like  a specific song you can find them on opengamerart.org.

Loved the 00s aesthetic and music!

Very fun implementation of the concept!

Loved the black-pink aesthetic, super nostalgic and reminiscent of the 2000er.

The quest that changes the background and music was super interesting as well! Really liked the multiple-step implementation with the quiz into collecting into dress up aspect.

As for feedback the scroll wheel throws you back on the game but it would be more useful for scrolling the dress up options. The collecting game could have more feedback as well (highlighting the clothes, or making them disappear or fade out after they have been "collected").

Fun and simple time!

This was such a fun blast from the past--both in fashion and game type! I loved it! Really loved the wealth of different styles you could create as well as the different backgrounds you were given based on the quiz.

It would be so cool if this had a punk/goth offshoot, or more Y2K/Mall Goth outfits to put together!

Developer

Thanks. Maybe I add that in a update. I also really like punk/gothic fashion.

I thought it was really interesting that you added a collection minigame before the dress-up section! Very cool game!

Cute game and so many dress-up choices! I didn't know you could scroll through the gallery so I was confused why the items stay the same. The art is really good too.

A very nice dress-up game! The randomization questions at the start is a super unique idea, although I do wish we had the option to customize the character anyways. The music is nice and the art is very well made. The only problem I saw was that while scrolling around in the dress-up menu, I sometimes would scroll up and it would rollback to the previous scene (that being the collection mini-game). I know I've played some renpy games where you could disable rollback entirely, but that didn't seem to be an option here. Otherwise, great work!

The music was pretty cool and the art style really sold the theme of early 2000s fashion flash game you were going for. The save system was surprisingly robust lol it seemed very well put together! Like some others have said I was a little confused by the clothes collecting bit, wasn't sure if I was actually picking things up or not. But really cool style and fit the theme great!

Developer

I had a hard time hiding the imagebutton of the clothes, that is the main reason they stay visible through the timer section.  Depending on how many clothing you clicked, you have a bigger/smaller variety in the dress up section. You could click on the only the hairbrsuh to get to the next section, but than you wouldn´t have any dressing up options.

Loved the randomized minigame at the start, but I'm not sure I was actually collecting the clothes when in the room. The dressup aspect wasn't bad at all, there were many choices and I never disliked them. Makes me want to try many variations!

Developer(+1)

Nice to hear. I tried to hide the clothes that where selected, but couldn´t make it work before the game jam ended.

Loved the quiz at the beginning to randomize the character, background, and music! The scrolling for categories with more than 6 items lagged for me at times.

Developer

Thanks for the hint, I will look into it. I only know that Renpy is not optimized for Browser play. Maybe it had to do with the amount of items.

I love how you twisted the dress up genre by added some variations with the little quizz at the start ! I looks amazing, absolutely loved it !! ✨🎉

Developer

Thanks, nice too hear =D

love the concept so much, wish the collect part of the game had some variation like maybe different rooms depending on the quiz or being allowed to open drawers, move pillows and blankets like in that one sue game where you get ready. Loved the number of options available in the dress-up and the clothes were cute! It would be cool to have a "Done!" button after finishing dress-up that let you see your creating in front of the full background ^_^

Developer

Good ideas, I try too implement them after the game jam. I like that Sue game, too.

The different vibes you can get with the music and backgrounds are so lovely, I enjoyed playing through a bunch of times to try different options. Here are my favorite outfits of the many ones I made:

Some of these were a little too close to home with what I wore back in the early 2000s... :)

Developer

I like your styling options.  =D

It's very cute, but I was really confused. I dressed up and wasn't sure what to do once I was done

Developer(+1)

Thanks =D

So far, there is nothing more than the dress up minigame. I may add a story element in the future, but the current game is just a short mini-game.

Submitted(+1)

Cute art, but I was confused on what to do.

Developer (1 edit)

It is a mini-game in which the objective is to dress up the character. The clothing does not influence the ending of astory or need to be created for an event. My goal was to create a short mini-game in which you have several styling options.

After I watched your twitch stream I noticed what you mean. You only have the dress up options you clicked on, in the timebased minigame.  So if you only click on the brush and wait, you get to the dress up section without having any dress up options. The only reason why the clothing items won´t disappear is that I hard time hiding the imagebuttons after they got pressed.

Scrolling back is a builtin control from renpy, so you can read again. You can find the controls from renpy on the titelscreen under Help section. I wasn´t sure how to stop the controls, so they stayed in.

Looks like our submissions approached the same fashion era from different perspectives ⋆˙⟡ I think the idea of a starting quiz influencing the content of the dress-up is fun- and it would be interesting to see it developed more! Really appreciate the you can layer skirts with pants and different shirts as well haha~ I feel like that's  one of the stranger defining features of the 2000s aesthetic, and a lot of retro-Y2K themes miss it.

Developer

When I researched 2000s fashion, I was also very surprised.

The character customization is very cute, and im not too sure if this is supposed to be in the game, but if i scroll my scrollwheel, it somehow goes back to the previous scene, so when i tried scrolling in the character customization section, im somehow back in the starting page, anyway keep up the good work :>

Developer

Thanks! =D

The scroll back function is inbuild by the renpy engine. I didn´t know how to change that up.

I always love some character customization games
