I have a free version of a NSFW game available, and would like to release a paid version on itch. It'll not be indexed, but can it still be sold if it's linked to in other places (social media, etc.)? Or are payments just completely impossible for such games at the moment?
What should NSFW devs to right now? Wait for an update and not release anything monetized?
I can only speak for myself, but my game was making me about $1,000 a month and I've sold $60 this past month. So, I think everybody is really scared right now especially because they're saying that PayPal is banning people's accounts for purchasing NSFW games here. Which is just a whole another level of crazy dystopian. So yeah my itch, is essentially, dead.
I check the main blog every single day in the hopes that itch is going to announce that all of our games have been re-listed and that there's a new payment processor or something. But no luck yet, it's abysmal. I don't want to discourage you from uploading your game obviously, but you may not really sell very much right now until people can dispel whether or not PayPal is actually deleting entire accounts.
Thanks. It all looks quite dire at the moment. Adult LGBTQ+ games like mine generally do better on itch than anywhere else. Other platforms don't offer an even playfield like itch does. (Steam's wishlist number requirements on release to make the game even show up properly, the 10 review requirement, etc...)
Been a while since the last update from itch regarding the NSFW games situation. Could really use some positive news.
Yeah I check every day for an update here just in case. Usually I sell my games everyday, but I've had a 10-day stretch last month where I didn't sell any. That's never happened since I've been on itch. I don't know how long it's going to take them but it's definitely affecting my life. I think I'm going to end up losing this apartment. I never even thought this was a possibility.
