How does the game fit the theme?
One Life: A Cat's Nip is a Metroidvania that allows the player to chase their dreams of collecting as many fish biscuits as they want or cashing out their collection as soon as they want. The player must make the choice of pushing forwards or playing it safe. Additionally, biscuits are the game’s currency for buying upgrades with a combined buff and debuff at Boss Shops, so they must spend them wisely if they want to make even greater progress. If the player is feeling greedy or running low on biscuits, they can “Risk it for the Biscuit” when buying an upgrade to get a cheaper cost at the expense of some randomness in their upgrade’s stats.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
We did not make the tileset, hedgehog enemy asset, fly enemy asset, or sounds from scratch.

i would like to see if this game be MORE than a jam game

A really nice metroidvania right here, guys! I really appreciate on how you added a tiny hub area so that where you need to go so that where you need to go is always right there. One complaint that I have though is that the camera is a little too zoomed in for me to come in close with the spikes, though I do like of how the camera zooms out in the grassy areas, and also, the bees are a little too hard to dodge. Also, the cat sprite could use a little more work and polish. Overall, 4/5 stars. Fantastic work, guys! 😸🍪🎃

I thought the camera work was really great here.  Things felt really natural transitioning from the player-focused cam to the fixed or axis-aligned modes.  There was some jittering artifact on the player sprite for the player cam, but otherwise great!

Movement all felt good.  It did feel rather difficult to make successful strikes on the flying enemies with such a limited attack range.  This could probably be made a bit more lenient.  Spike insta-death also felt kind of brutal compared to how many hits you could take during regular combat.

Boss combat felt fair, though I usually didn't have enough biscuit resources to buy anything by the time I made it to the first boss.  Since the player is able to warp back to spawn anyway, maybe the shop could just be a permanent fixture there.

Cute little game! The movement is good, the animations are nice, even though it's quite hard to see the range of my attacks, the camera management is pretty good, but it is a little bit slow to show the rest of the level. The music is great, but I would have liked a bit more sounds (especially as a feedback for my actions, like a "dash" sound and an "attack" sound).

Overall a nice entry that just needs a bit of refinment here and there, but still a nice entry for a 7 days jam =). Congrats!

Had a fun time, a stronger animation(?) would be nice. The end screens are very nice !!

Fun game! You guys put together a really fun platformer! I loved exploring the different pathways and getting increasing stats at the risk of other stats. My main feedback is that I wish there was an attack key/button vs. a left-click. I feel the controls would feel more seamless if they were all on a keyboard. It could be a skill issue, but that would be my preference. :)

Quick feedback:

  • I wish there was more visual cues / sound fx / vfx during an attack, it was hard to gauge the character's range of attack and where I'm attacking, considering the character's attack animation didn't look much different from the idle animation.

A few bugs I ran into:

  • I couldn't teleport out of the boss room unfortunately.
  • When you quickly walk back the way you came during the camera transition (to view the new part of the map), sometimes the camera would disable and no longer follows the character.

Overall, great job on pulling off a fun platformer in a week! You guys did fantastic!

Very cool! I  like the concept. The platforming could use a little work, but is good overall. Fits in with the theme well, as you have to take risks both to get biscuits and to use them. Me like derpy cat 👍

My guys, I cannot comprehend how you don't have any ratings by now. This game is easily 10/10. Everything about it is perfect,  gameplay,  artstyle,  music, just every single thing. You make an amazing team, never stop creatin!

Keep up the good work!
