Ranked from 45 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
Dog Treats is all based on math, chances, risk and reward.

You basically always want to steal as many biscuits as possible, but you don't know how many nor what kind of biscuits will come out of the Dog Treats box.

So, it is up to you to decide if you have to stop or take the risk of stealing some more.

Be careful though, because you have to leave something for the dog too, otherwise he'll get angry.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The sounds are the only thing not entirely made by me.
They come from Mixkit and Pixabay.

Cool game, I really like the visuals and the atmosphere is great! I do feel like at the start I was confused and sometimes the gameplay could be a bit repetative, but I thought the idea was interesting and unique and definately fits the theme, well done on making this game :)

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yeah the gameplay is repetative in terms of what you do because there is more focus on what you choose to do

I'm happy to read appreciation about my theme interpretation!

Great Game! I love the sound design and the art style is so good! The gameplay is really solid too! Really good job I couldn't stop playing!

Developer

Thanks a lot, I really appreciate your comment!

Great sound design. And the UI was very juicy.  I couldn't get more than 19 but I am a risk taker haha. I'll have to come back to it and give it another go to beat my own score!

Developer

Thanks a lot for the appreciation! I will soon try your game too

Really cool game, and a unique take on the theme! The gameplay is simple, yet addictive :)

The game also has a nice, creepy atmosphere to it, which, in my opinion, emphasized the risk and reward part a lot (especially the risk part), which made me think a lot more about my choices :D

I believe I got to round 9 with a score of 43 biscuits stolen on my first attempt.

Well done, especially for your first jam!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for and for the kind words!

Awesome game! I love the visual and the atmosphere, really creepy, but I think it could be improved more.

The gameplay was a bit confusing at first even after I read your how to play text, but I quickly got the hang of it. Some of the UI buttons at the corners of the screen got cut off.  And for some reason my laptop thought I was playing VR and it tried to open and connect to Steam VR.

Other than that great job!

Developer(+1)

You are the second one that have experienced the UI bug, but I don't know why it happens (maybe different screen sizes).
The VR stuff is a mystery...

Anyway thanks for playing it!

Amazing game ! , I think is a 5/5 in terms of gameplay and the theme , i think it fits perfectly and the gameplay is nice polished and stresses me out ( just the way i like it hehe ) , I also like the tutorial book  , i feel like many devs fall into the trap of explaining to much and boring out players , anyway you are my unreal engine friend , I have no feedback in terms of gameplay but i have in terms of art since im an artist :

1 - It's amazing that you did this solo , I understand the feeling of wanting everything under your control , however i feel like your game would have greatly benefited with a dedicated 3D + UI artist. it just looks very cheap and generic ( i know its a game jam but still )

2-Unreal seems like it's a bit of an over kill for such game , if there was an artist here he would have a blast with it since it's just a single static place ( i was foaming at the mouth when i saw this )

Anyway amazing game overall , one of my favorites of the jam so far , I managed to make it to round 10 and 42 stolen biscuits but my cowardness got to me and im not a pro gamer hehe . Cheers Madia !

Developer(+1)

First of all thankyou so much for playing the game!
I will answer to your feedback (spoiler: I agree with everything)

1 - There are two reasons why I choose the solo approach.
The first one is that I'm working on other projects at the same time so  my schedule is unpredictable, this means that I couldn't guarantee that I would complete the required tasks on time.
The second one is that is my first game jam, so I was looking for a challenge while trying to understand how these events work (also building a "portfolio" in order to find a team next time)

2 - Unreal is the only engine that I know. I'm pretty good with it and I can basically do everything in terms of gameplay but... I'm definetely not an artist. I have good eye for beautiful stuff but I have not the skills to make that on my own.
Everything from the start was designed to work even with "bad" mesh and "wrong" colors (I know the UI isn't good but I didn't have time to study a color palette)

Basically I am a Game Designer and a Blueprint UE Programmer so not the most appealing teammate for a game jam...
The next time I will definitely look for someone else to collaborate with. Perhaps with you! (if you want)

No problem ! , it's very refreshing having a nice conversation with a dev that actually play games and not just rate and comment lol , and yeah maybe we can cook up something together , i'd love to , my discord is jakartacardiana !

Excellent work! very nice animation. Very clean GUI. The help section is very well layed out and very helpful. Explains it well.

I wanted to steal more biscuits but needed to be careful to not upset the dog. Those eyes kept close watch. Be careful not to get too greedy, haha .. was fun to try out your game! Thanks for the same :)

Developer(+1)

Thankyou so much for the appreciation!

Good job! You have a very nice interface and a great idea, it's really a risk. The only thing is, when I move the cursor to the right side of the screen, the dog's eyes start to shake XD

Developer

Thanks! I think they start shaking because the game can't get the cursor position correcly

I'm going to play your game now and thanks again for having played it

Thats a really fun Game and loved the visual style too 😍😍

Developer

Thanks a lot!

Turned out really exciting. After many tries I still couldnt make it to a hundred
Only 99 in 16 rounds

Developer

Wow, it's a good score be proud

Thanks for having played my game!

The game looks simple and fun - you need to balance between greed and caution to last longer. The rules seem a bit overloaded at times, but the core idea looks interesting.

Developer

Thanks! Yeah having all the rules in a single time is defintely not the correct way of teaching a game, but there wasn't time for a proper onboarding.

I'm going to try your game now!

In my opinion this game might be one of the best games made in this Jam. The gameplay was fun, I liked the concept of your game.

I managed to reach the fifth round and collect 17 biscuits in my fourth attempt.

Well done!

Developer

Thanks a lot!

I'm going to play your game now :

An addictive game. In 6 attempts I was able to reach the 4th round at most. The theme of risk is very well developed here.

I was once scared by a dog)

If only I could add some more details for the entourage, it would be great.

Developer

Seem that someone here is not so lucky!

Anyway thanks for having played it

Pretty cool game, nice atmosphere. The gameplay is pretty fun and unique, although not that hard really once you understand how it works. I don't know why but sometimes the light had some bugs, nothing major though.

Overall pretty fun and cool game, has potential!

Developer(+1)

Thanks! Yep I guess is not that hard, it is surely something that you can figure out with playtests, but the main objective was make people understand how to play around the odds so I am satisfied that it is not perceived as a game of pure RNG!

I will soon try yours and thanks again for appreciations!

Great, well-thought-out gameplay, big props for the subtle, non-intrusive tutorial! It was really cool, and the atmosphere had just the right amount of spooky.
Absolutely awesome, I had a blast :)

Developer

Thanks a lot! You are the first one that have noticed the effort for the Tutorial and I appreciate that

I run to play and rate your game now

Playing this alone in my basement spooked me out. Great use of the theme, simple but very effective premise.

Developer

You are  defintely brave! Thanks for having played it

Submitted

This game is pretty fun !! Idk why it doesnt have more rating everything is a 10 !! (or a 5 in this case haha)

Developer

Thanks a lot for the appreciation!

Submitted

Why is this genuinely so good? I like everything about it. Simple gameplay but it gives you something to actually think about. 5 Stars on everything 🙏🙏🙏

Developer

Thankyou sooooo much!!

I run to play yours now

Wow... your game is exactly like the game jam theme. And this is my first time trying a game jam made using Unreal Engine. Keep up the good work!

Developer

Thanks, I am really proud to have hit the nail on the theme!

I'm happy that your first experience with Unreal Engine was positive

Submitted

This fit the theme really nicely. along with great design and style the whole thing looked really polished. Compared to other games I felt really worried when I choose to make risks because they had big rewards but dangers too.

Developer (2 edits)

Thanks a lot for the appreciation!

I've just seen that your game requires 2 players, I will remember to play it when there will be someone else with me
