How does the game fit the theme?
The goal of the game is to reach the tower where there are some cookies. To survive the journey, the player must fight off giant spiders and collect risk cubes, which can grant either a buff or a debuff. Progress requires embracing this uncertainty or, as they say: risk it for the biscuit.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Assets that I made before the jam:
- Rifle
- Trees, furniture, candle models
- Textures, sound effects
- First person controller

Assets that I did not make:
- Radio music: Magic by Malcolm Horne
- Spatial audio system: Blekoh
- Narration speech system: DashNothing
- Weapons sway system: Four Games
- Spider movement system: Crigz Vs Game Dev
- Risk cube sound effects: heltonyan

I don't know if I'm just extremely unlucky or if the game is bugged because every time I touched a risk cube I got the debuff. Still I enjoyed the game (somewhat) and the robot spiders looked cool. I got heavy Squirrel Stapler vibes from this.

I now have a totally rational fear of robot spiders...

One thing I noticed though is that some went down with 1 hit (nice, keeps combat snappy and responsive) but others seemed to take more - do some spiders take more hits than others or was I just missing those shots?

Developer

The bigger ones take 2 hits.

Fun short game, the powerups a a nice fun little addition, and I like the controls and the look of the game

This was fun! Animations and sounds around running, shooting and reloading all felt quite good. I thought the slowish reload and scarce ammo added to the risk theme well. Every shot felt like I had to make it count. A little more variety in the level might have made it feel a bit more interesting in the longer bits of running. Nice work!

Finally completed the game, winning round takes 6:22:99. I would say the game is quite nice! The game is simple to understand, and doesn't really have too much complexity to it, but for a short game like this, it's perfectly fine. The random power-ups is a nice addition that fits nicely with the theme. Though I think they are a bit unbalanced at times. The 20s speed up is never worth it in my opinion, the ammo trade felt a bit unfair when you got punished while having not enough ammo, and unlimited stamina almost gives you an automatic win. But I guess this is the fun of the game, I suppose.

A minor criticism I think, is that the gun felt a bit off. A lot of times I am pointing straight at 2m range, aiming directly at the body of the spider, yet I somehow missed the shot, let alone shooting long range. There's even a bullet hole on there for god sake. If there is a hidden health bar, it would be nice to show it instead, as it gives feedback to the player on whether they are aiming correctly. Or at least add a hit animation. The reload time is a bit long too, but I guess that's just a skill issue. I would also suggest using something other than a white cube to indicate powerups would be better, as it currently blends right into the white text, making reading a bit hard. Also, a white cube doesn't convey power-up in the imagery.

Anyway, good job making this nice little FPS. I had quite some fun! Keep up the good work!

Pretty atmospheric game though it can be RNG at times (I guess that ties into the theme of the jam so that works). I got got by the spiders quite a few times as well

The cookies felt like a reward :), all in all it was fun and a really nice vibe, great work!

The vibes are off the charts and the gameplay is really smooth! Even though there's not much happening I always felt creeped out, really felt the eeriness of the map. I love the pickups and love how they're not essential to the progression but you're going to have to get them if you want an easier time. Also i'm pretty sure those spider robots are gonna hunt my dreams for the next few weeks smh xD

The random teleport really helped me get a (hopefully) good score too!

Overall a really solid game, and considering this was made by 1 person in only 7 days...

Ate those cookies up quick. Good job ! The darkness for 40s is creepy as hell since you don't know where the robots can come from and also the slow shoot and reload speed make for some tense moments.

Quite fun idea, very creepy and eerie the atmosphere of the game, reminds of squirrel stapler. I did find the game quite easy, maybe I got lucky? I don't know. 4:44:90 my first time. Honestly this game has potential if expanded more the horror elements.

Overall pretty fun game, great potential!

Cool idea, but the game itself is very difficult. Five attempts, when I was almost at the tower, the glowing "upgrade cube" teleported me to the edge of the map, very RNG.

Developer(+1)

That wasn't worth the risk if you were that close, that's the core idea of my game, but I should have made it so that those cubes required pressing E to interact, instead of proximity-based pickup.

8:04:78, not exactly a speedrun but hey we made it in the end. Those spiderbots are absolutely nightmarish, so well done with that. I would have liked an E to interact for the boxes, and maybe a gun upgrade reward would have been nice, since juggling risk between upgrade/downgrade can lead to some cool gameplay. I also liked that darkness + fog made everything extremely dark. EDIT: Didn't realize I just didn't hit the gun upgrade! Whoops!

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying my game out. There was a gun upgrade and downgrade, too bad you didn’t encounter one.

Fun experience! But really punishing when you die :( Tried two times and died both. Really fun power ups, my favourite was the one that makes the rifle semi-automatic.

The visuals are pretty cool, I kinda like the retro-ish look! Main point of feedback I'd give is just some more polishing to the gameplay/ in general. Also, I think it could be cool for the white cubes to have a button to pick them up, because I picked some up on accidents while running from enemies. However, overall cool entry, and the gun felt quite satisfying, good stuff!

Very fun game! I managed to get through it all in 6:51 I think. The small power ups were a very fun twist to the game.
The sounds that the enemies, and the model for the enemies were very fitting and scary.

At the start I didn't notice the little white orbs until I came close to one, because they are kind of subtle. Maybe make it into another icon, so the player is sure that its something interactable.

Other than that, the game was really fun! Good job on your first jam! :D

I liked the old-school vibe (mesh ladders, low-quality textures). The gun sounds and accompanying effects are really well done. However, walking to the tower takes a long time and gets a bit boring, and there aren’t many monsters. Maybe adding more variety would help ✨

Appreciate the feedback and thank you for playing.

Game with good sound effects and animation, unfortunately I couldn't finish it. I thought that enemies should spawn less in case the player searches for a long time for a more suitable random effect.

Pretty cool
