How does the game fit the theme?
The game is a sidescroller where you can graze (go nearby and risk getting hit) projectiles to gain wisps that will protect you from future projectiles.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?

Cool game! I think the core mechanic is interesting, but I was a little bit confused about the wisps that protect you, since they sometimes prevent you from grazing the wisps you want to graze. The visuals and audio really helped sell the vibe, nice job!

I think the mechanic does need some tweaking as the wisps protected me from projectiles I wanted to go near, making them feel a tad pointless. Maybe if there were things to shoot the wisps at? I realize that might be a bit of a big ask to add enemies like that though. I do love the idea of the main mechanic though, it has a ton of potential! I also loved the visuals and audio!

The idea with grazing enemies to get bonuses is nice, but I didn't really feel the impact of it, because protective wisps just kept dying to enemies and never actually protected me from taking damage.

Really good game loved the art even though it didn't match that well all together (I mean the city scape just ruined the immersion) but the Gameplay is quite fun, It did take me a while to figure out (like 10 tries) why i kept on dying again and again and turns out your supposed to avoid the obstacles and not Collect them XD (I'm not that good at figuring out controls XD) and i though that collecting them increases the force field but in my humble defense i just though that the green particles appearing upon the so called collection seemed like they were good particles 😁😁😭, still despite my obvious Skill issue with videogames in general it was quite fun (especially after i figured the goal out), its incredible you were able to orchestrate all this so well in just a matter of 6 days, Overall Amazing game with plenty of potential :D

Rated: 6.5/10

btw, Please try out my game Racookie Heist  as well 😊, I worked really hard on it as well. I hope to see you in the Racookie Heist Comments section soon :D

Never mind, Silly me your supposed to "Graze the Wisp" and like barely touch it, I may be horrible at playing games but that wont stop me from making some myself XD

After reading the subtitle I put on 1h loop of jetpack joyride theme and played the game with it in the background. Best decision of my life.

Charming little game. The risk factor was nicely implemented here.

Keep up the good work!

Very unique idea I'd say. Also great visuals. Well done.

thanks!

This is very cool and original idea.
loved the spin on the "flappy bird controls"
it was bit hard, you need to fly to close, there is almost no gradient, like getting close, very close, and dangerously close and receiving appropriate amount of energy would've been nice.
and some scoring would also be cool so i know how far did i get (I got to the point where fireballs were everysecond, that good?)
also it would be nice is there a way to save up on protective whisps, like controling when to activate them. because sometimes they got in the way of getting energy but than when i needed them i had no
Otherwise very cool game, great style of visuals effects and sound effects.
awesome little game.

Developer

thank you! you actually get energy depending on the time you get close (I believe it generates every 0.05 seconds), but I agree that using distance would be cool.

I initially planned to add an action where you shoot wisps to the nearest enemy, but since I didn't add any enemies other than projectiles I scrapped the idea, currently they only act as barriers, which they block energy generation as you mentioned.

loved the idea and art . u could have added some ui

Developer

thank you, had no time/willpower left for UI, this felt okay for the jam, I'll make sure to draw some good menus/hud if I continue working on this

The art and gameplay itself are great. However, it would be nice to have some kind of starting screen, because right now it’s kind of funny how the mask just falls diagonally constantly. Also, some instructions on how to play would be good (I know it’s in the description, but I didn’t see it first)

Developer

thank you, I had no time/willpower leftfor polish, so if I ever make it a full game, I'll add them for sure, but felt like this was okay for the jam

I like the near-miss meter building, though it's a lil unclear what I'm building towards since new wisps just reset the bar and take hits, so there's not currently a ton of incentive to play risky

A scoring system could help encourage that, or maybe bosses that can only be damaged if you've built up enough wisps

Developer(+1)

thank you! the bar's sole purpose is to generate wisps, but I agree that wisps don't provide any meaning. I actually had a scoring system and a boss which you would defeat with the wisps in my mind, but had no time lol

A game worth playing, with potential!
A scoring system would be great for replayability and motivation to improve!

+1 for the assets

Developer

thank you! I planned a scoring system but had no time to spare and didn't want to do it lol

The art looks really cool but was a bit jarring on the eyes. There is so much movement on screen that it is a bit uncomfortable after a while.

Developer

yes, I kinda combined parallax and the mist trail for no reason other than combining them, removing one of them would be better

The color palette is really nice, and the art is really beautiful and well done. I agree, it reminds me of Geometry Dash. Well done.

Developer

thanks a lot, if anyone wants it, here's color palette for the background: https://lospec.com/palette-list/slso8
