Even though I read that lives multiply scores, it was still a bit confusing why a round was won, or why I lost the very first level even though I beat every chess piece. Managed to score 990. Cool game.

Really fun idea and super polished for a jam game! Took me a moment to get used to the mechanics, but once I did it clicked. Excited to see where you take this next!

Really solid work. Personally I’d have preferred more real feeling chess puzzles, but I get the decision to do it this way. The discard mechanic is really either poorly represented or explained, as I’d try to select and discard a card and then it’d flash as the opponent’s turn and then back to mine? Not sure I understood that. The instructions to “pick a level on the left” didn’t make sense when there was only ever the one choice? Incidentally fullscreen breaks on a 3:2 monitor. As others have mentioned the bonus you get for capturing with new piece cards you buy seems confusing and is hard to tell if it happens in game or not? These are little nitpicks of course, but you’ll need to address them if you end up releasing this :) The 3x multiplier with 20+ gold cookie seems crazy strong, to the point where I didn’t really have to try at all once I got it. Obviously it’s sleek and well put together, very striking capsule art. Surprised that red doesn’t show up in game tbh!

I think ultimately the gameplay of “do two basic chess moves, discard one” will wear out its welcome extremely fast for me at least, but I’ve also done a lot of chess puzzles in my life. Maybe more involved puzzles would be good, but feel too much like Gambonanza? Honestly I think you should look at The Duke for inspiration about potential other ways you could have pieces move, could be pretty interesting.

I hope the momentum on this goes well for you! :)

Hello, first of all, thank you for the big feedback. I can basically agree with everything except the part that it feels like Gambonanza. I don’t understand what you mean if you played that game or at least watched its gameplay, these are two different games with completely different mechanics and gameplay. The fact that both are chess and both use a Balatro-style look does not mean they are the same game. In any case, thank you very much for the feedback, I will try to fix everything after the jam

To be clear I meant if you had the player controlling multiple pieces more similar to standard chess puzzles which I think I might be more drawn to, then it might feel more like Gambonanza. As is you’ve definitely differentiated yourself!

oh okay, got it know, sorry!

I love the Balatro/Psychedelic Visuals and even though I horrible at chess I actually found my self to be quite good at this game if you like chess and Balatro you will not stop playing this game!

If Balatro and chess made a child, this would be it. Really well designed and polished game

Submitted

A really polished Balatro-inspired game! ;D

// With less text or a better presentation on a gadget would be great! > v<

(It's so quiet hard to read with a small screen ><)

Awesome polish! The pieces in the shop are a bit confusing (if a buy a knight, do I get extra points when I kill a knight or when I kill WITH a knight?).

This game was pretty fun and well polished but it didn't really feel like it fit the theme that much.

Thanks for playing and for the feedback! For me, the theme “Risk it for Biscuit” is central. Biscuits (and their variations) are a required resource—without them you literally cannot progress. The king plays and takes risks each round specifically to earn money, buy more biscuits/sweets, and push further. So the core loop is risk taken in order to reach more biscuits, which is why I believe it fits the theme

Hello everyone, sorry that I can’t reply to each person, because there are so many comments. It’s incredibly pleasant for me; I read every single one, and it’s incredibly nice to read all of this. For me it’s an incredible honor; honestly, I was absolutely not ready for this. I’m very glad that you like the game, and I will keep working on it and try to make it as good as possible. Thank you to everyone who supports me and to those who rate the game honestly. I love you all very much—you are the best!

It's a fun game thats very much like balatro meets chess, i love the artstyle and the asthetic of the game!

Fun little game. A nice twist on the original beloved chess, I had loads of fun trying to beat each level. The visuals and music are definitely the cherry on top here!

Keep up the good work!

Balatro plus Chess, Fantastic idea! I had a blast with the movement system, whether I was try to survive or take out my enemy's quickly, the fighting system was great. It felt like the build options where limited, but with only a week you did very well. The one thing this game seems to be missing is the score go up that Balatro has, any way very well done.

This game is ridiculously polished, can't believe you made this in a week! The gameplay itself is a little bit confusing, took me a little while to figure out what I was supposed to be doing or what upgrades would be most useful. But I imagine you spent most of your time making the game beautiful, which it is. Amazing work!

The visual is very good, it looks like a game that will become popular!

Submitted

Work on it a bit more try to differentiate its style from Balatro and publish it. This is a solid banger

Get this on steam and add an infinite gamemode!

such a fun and polished game! It's got the feels of balatro and mixing it with chess is a really creative spin on the genre! I also love the sound effects and the ost, really ties the whole game together. Congrats on making an amazing game within only 7 days and probably winning the jam :D

Execution is great considering the time, music really stands out. Game itself has clear inspirations and doesn't go beyond them. Overall solid entry.

I like the game play the music and the power ups. But I think that you could of had used less of the themes from the game of the year from last year.

One person made this? That is some stubbornest, ahahah, the game feels really smooth with the sounds buttering your ears while the visuals massage your eyes. The gameplay loop is also fantastic, took me some time to understand what is happening but got used to it, would play when I have to go to the restroom for some time!
