How does the game fit the theme?
You are a starving fruit bat, taking a risk to eat some legendary berries that only grow inside a dark, dangerous cave full of obstacles, tight tunnels, and vicious enemies. Use echolocation to clear your way and stay out of danger. You get hit once, and it's back to the start of the level.
What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
All assets are original.

The asthetics are on point and beautiful. Absolutely love the sfx, music, animations, everything. I just found the actual moment to moment gameplay less than stellar. The darkness is super annoying to deal with as your sonar is on a timer, making the entire game just sonar -> move -> wait till sonar comes back -> repeat. The movement also just being a straight wasd float movement cheapens how interesting the rest of the game feels. Also, checkpoints, cause these levels are very long and intricate (which I appreciate) and dying is simply too punishing. I'm not sure how you would fix this system as is, but the current gimmick with the darkness and sonar might warrant a full rework of the mechanic. Super cool entry though, and I can tell alot of work went into making this the best it could possibly be.
Sound and visuals are amazing - game play is fun but I did get discouraged having to start all the way at the start of a level... it made me realize I should add checkpoints in my own games. Aside from that very fun and just beautiful work!
Visually and musically, it’s very beautiful. Some hitboxes feel a bit too large, but I really enjoyed playing it. Great job!
Absolutely love the aesthetics and the bat theming of this game. I think you guys nailed the visuals and gameplay loop of using sound to carefully navigate through a dark cave. I just wish there were more berries or something to collect throughout the levels that made the player take detours into unnecessary and risky paths just to get some collectibles along the way (something like Celeste's strawberries?)
Love the art direction here! The purples and soft glows work together with the music to create a chill, relaxed vibe. The gameplay itself seems a lot more hardcore. The levels go on for a bit, and so getting sent all the way back to the start off one hit is quite punishing. I also found the hit boxes to extend far outside the visible boundaries of the bat. I ultimately had to tap out on level 3 where there seems to be a really tight gap right at the intersection of a snake, fish, and ceiling worm. Tightening up the hit box or keeping checkpoints along the way (bat perches maybe?) would go a long way toward approachability.
That said, the sound-based auras of light around the various obstacles is a really cool idea. This is a nice substitute for the echo location ability while it is charging up.
I liked so much your game, good job doing the nature of the game representing the way of a bat. So I liked how the bat only can see when a sound is emitted by an enemy, but talking about level design, I think you shouldn't put many of the silent warms in places that I can't see, for example if I rested a bit, and then I flied until a point where I couldn't see in the rest place, I will use the eco, so I'll fly til the eco stops, if there's a silent warm after that place, I only can see it when I reach the damage range, and I'll die. But maybe I'm using the eco without a good plan, idk. Other than that, good idea and good execution of the game, congrats!
I adore the art style of this game, y'all did a great job with it. Could not quite beat the second level, but still a great game!
The vibes are of the charts and both art direction and the sound design compliment each other so well! The 2nd level was a bit too much for me though, maybe it could use a second checkpoint somewhere in the middle. Other than that, amazing game!!
Beautiful art, especially the introductory storybook sequence. The collider on the bat is definitely too large, leading to confusing deaths. A sound effect for the echo and for death would have added a lot.
The echo does have a dedicated sound, but I agree, that death could have its own sound aswell. Thanks for reviewing!
The visual and sound atmosphere is incredible. The game is really interesting. I enjoyed it. Sometimes, the hitboxes seemed a bit wrong. Congrats!
I really love the visuals and the music but it could use some particles and maybe some death effects. Overall a great game
Thanks for the suggestions! We'll consider them, if we decide to continue working with the game :)
Interesting game with a cool mechanic! I enjoyed the echo mechanic, although I did find I ended up spending a lot of time waiting. The perches are great game design, allowing some breathing time for the player, great stuff! Also, the audio is excellent. Everything felt really cohesive, which I really enjoyed.
Incredible visuals, great sound.
The game felt nice and cozy.
It could be improved with a bit of particle, and a bit more animation work to improve on some snappy visuals on the character and some obstacles.
Otherwise, nice game.
incredibly beautiful game. Great assets and wonderful music - though it didn't reflect the creeps I had from all those nasty creatures down there!
Very cool. Cozy atmosphere and I think the art is fantastic!
Amazing art and vibe, opening cinematic was beautiful, and it was very chill to play. Some hitboxes were a little touchy, but I always managed to get past what I needed to. Good stuff!
The art style of this game is very beautiful, I feel a lot of synergy in every moment, even with the UI.
Very pretty game with relaxing music and a cool unique art style. I love the little intro too.
The perches were a nice addition to observe around without using the echo location.
I got stuck on the 3rd level though (the purple level), there seemed to be an invisible wall by the sharks i could not fly past.
loved the game, especially the art and sound, just superb. And ive always wanted to try the echolocation mechanic, really glad to see how its used here
Absolutely fantastic art and the music is catchy too, relaxing vibe despite the level of the dangers for this poor fruit bat
