fun roguelite -- would have loved a little more animation, and a little more ammo! smooth controls and really cute characters.

Nice little run and gun! I lost my first round to spending too much time poking around and I eventually ran out of ammo. Seems like as long as you stay focused on gathering keys and heading to the exit, you should be fine. Getting multiple rat splats off of one missile felt good. Even better was getting the dynamite to go off right as some demolition rats passed by. Felt like justice.
Ha. Thanks so much. Yes, you've figure out the secret. The map starts off sparse, but the rats eventually seep into the map and swarm all over, and the Boomers will have block your routes and slowed you down. We're going to shake things up with Bruiser Rats, all muscles and commando with guns. And Brainey Rats that plant laser traps on walls and lay down turrets. Who knows, it might turn into a fun little game with some additional time and effort. I aprpeciate your giving it a shot
Good luck in the jam. I played and rated yours. High innovation score. I loved that mechanic.
Thank you! I played and rated your game too, but couldn't comment. That was your first game? In a week? Great job. You made a fun playable level and a complete game with a cute controllable character, enemies that move around, collision and everything. I hope you had fun with it so that you'll make at least one iteration and post it. I'll play that sucker. Excellent work.
Thanks so much. I played and rated yours, but could not comment (a malicious false report was made because someone didn't like an aspect of my profile picture). I loved Mr. Biscuit the character. I like imaginative whacky stuff like that. My brain went off wondering who would take a cookie prisoner just to torment the player instead of eating him. It was put together well and controlled nicely.
Man I like how the lightings are placed in the game, to me that was a great touch. Pretty simple and fun game overall!
Thanks so much. I played and rated your game, but some a-hole doesn't like my profile image and made false reports on my account, blocking me from commenting temporarily. (I've asked asked for the warning to be reviewed since I've been nothing but positive and violated no terms.) Here is what I tried to post on your review page:
Adorable and tight. I liked the attention to detail. Little things like the smooth transitions and the tweening animation of the buttons made it feel polished. I wish I could give some criticisms for you, but you simply did a great job on everything. Good luck in the jam!
YOOO I LOVE THISS!!
First of all the art is absolutely AWESOME!!
LOVED the chara des sheet the designs are so cool and cute!
i absolutely love the level designs and i love the rat holes closing system that was clever!
In love with how well constructed the atmosphere of the game is! the sfx, the visuals, the music and colors, they all go so well together!
One of my fave entries!
and it's INSANE that it was done by only 2 ppl!!
Thank you for your hard work!

Love the visuals of this game. Cute and simple. Shooting was also very satisfying. I have two recommendations though. First is to have some visual and audio feedback when a bullet hits but doesn't kill the bomb rats. Just to give it a more satisfying feeling. Second, if this was made in Godot, go to project settings, look up physics interpolation, and enable that. And set the process callback property on the camera node to physics. This will smooth out the player's movement, so the player doesn't visually stutter while moving. There are some things to consider, so I recommend you look into it, but I believe it should work out perfectly fine for your game. Great work!
Thanks for that. I appreciate your checking it out and sharing your valuable insights. I've worked in Unreal since the early 2000s, and evaluating Godot was the entire point of my doing this jam at all, so your feedback is greatly appreciated. One serious problem is Godot's webgl performance tanking with a sub viewport, even one that has zero draws. And I'm not thrilled with tilemap nav performance either.
But, I've already made a build with some changes to how I'm doing the minimap, cat-sense blips on the edge of the screen, and navigation recalc. I'm going to ping you after the jam to see if I nailed them.
Cute and simple game. I like the visuals and the effects overall. Would have likes to have music though.
Biggest problem for this entry was the choppy, laggy frame rate. Which is very surprising considering this was a relatively simple 2D game. There's probably some optimization you should be looking into in your code base.
Other than that I think this entry utilizes a lot of cool things from the Godot engine, which I like. Good job on that!
cute game :) love the sound effects. easy play. was fun to try. needs some music :)
This game actually made my fear of rats even bigger :D. Btw, I really liked the art and the sound ,the shooting effects were really satisfying. Honestly, nothing to complain about for a game made in just 7 days. Hope to see you in the comments of our game too.
Well thanks for that. I'm glad you enjoyed our work, and I appreciate your giving it a try and taking the time to give us your thoughts.
I did play, rate, and comment a few days ago. I'm buried in your stack of comment somewhere. :) I liked it. I liked that creepy take on bingo. The backstory was creative, and I can see how the game could get more intense and moody as the days I'm alive drain away. The red tie guy was effective. I hope you do well in the jam!
Really good game loved the art, its incredible you were able to orchestrate all this so well in just a matter of 6 days, Overall Amazing game :D
Rated:10/10
btw, Please try out my game Racookie Heist as well 😊, I worked really hard on it as well.
I hope to see you in the Racookie Heist Comments section soon :D
Oh I loved Racookie Heist. I did play, rate, and comment a few days ago I think. You have 100+ comments so I'm buried in there somewhere.
Thanks so much for your kind words. Oleksandra did the art, and I know she would appreciate that you like it, so I'll pass it along.
Good luck in the jam. I'm sure you'll do well.
This is impressive work for a two-person team. Very polished on every aspects. The control feels smooth. The maze is fun to explore. Incredible job!
Well thanks for that. You're too kind. A two-person team worked well for us I think. Oleksandra is fast, and she kinda gets that spending more time on the characters is more important than the props and stuff. So everything was buttery smooth. More team members would have just gotten in the way. Too many cooks.
I liked the artwork and atmosphere of the levels a lot! You did a really great job there.
I had a weird bug where I died from an explosion, and then in my new game my character sprite was just permanently red (assuming from when it takes damage).
To be honest I wasn't entirely sure about what the risk aspect was, but overall cool game, well done!
Thanks for checking it out. That is weird. I suspect I suspect the shader param aren't being reset. Now you've triggered my debugging OCD and ruined the rest of my day. Thanks a whole lot. :)
The risk is that Grumpy has to not die by rat as you get biscuits to increase your score. Super clever, huh. We sort of came up with a framework that could adapt to whatever the theme ends up being- he's an indoor kitty because "Unexplored Territory" would require him to go outside to save a sexy kitty he saw out the window during a rabies apocalypse.
The game is great. I liked everything.
Only a couple of moments bothered me.
1. The character is kind of twitchy when moving
2. Sometimes I lost my cursor)
3. Well, fog of war would have been perfect. It would have been scarier to meet a rat around the corner
I don't know if it's a bug or a feature, but rats could enter a closed hole.
Thanks for checking it out. I appreciate your feedback. Your QA notes have actually already been addressed for the next iteration.
The Boomer Rats will leave the floor through a Rat Hole after they've placed a set number of bombs. It's a feature, just not a very well communicated one. :)
Thanks for your comments! Much appreciated.
Resource management isn't my strong suit so I kinda just went bang bang and died. Since ammo is limited I think it would be more reasonable if you could have ways to shake off chaser rats relatively easily and use your weapon as a last resort. I don't have much to suggest in terms of the gameplay itself. The level itself is pretty good and it needs memorizations between runs. It's pretty neat for a game jam project.
