How does the game fit the theme?
This game is about bears who risk it (gamble) for the biscuit (in order to win as many biscuits as possible). Gathering biscuits with a card game based on chance is the main mechanic.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
The fonts - added in the credits

I really like the aesthetic of the game, nice color scheme, ui and music. The idea is great and I love to see some lore/story behind it too! I think it needs better balancing tho (or i'm just bad at the game) - I got biscuit monsters waaay too often. Pretty much every time I risked it I would get between 1 and 2 of them.

Very cool game!

seems like you risked it and missed it ;) no but true, i did not get to spend a lot of time to balance everything in the end.

Thanks for your kind comment!

thanks a lot!

Nice concept, and I love lore so the text added a lot to the game. This game is really underrated, considering how unique and well-made it is! Will be rating highly!

Developer(+1)

that is really sweet, thank you so much!!

Like others said about the tutorial and text a bit overwhelming with the amount but I will say, it was a nice to have a tutorial none the less and the way you did it wasn’t too bad, with a small change here and there it would have been a really good tutorial. I loved the art as well and the music wasn’t distracting and actually kinda cozy. Well done~

if there is one thing i learned this jam, it is to spend time on all aspects - even the tutorial :´)

Thanks for your lovely comment!

There was a lot of  text, but the gameplay was fun.

Developer

thanks for playing & for your comment :)

Liked the style and feel. Tutorial is soo complex and verbose. I just skipped and ended up not knowing how to play of course haha. I suggest introducing the mechanics slowly instead.

Did find a bug where I would drag player cards to the playable area and they just wouldn't stay

Developer

yeah i was a bit lazy with the tutorial. thanks for the feedback and thanks for playing!

This game is incredibly charming, and it's clear there was a lot of creative thought put into it. I especially appreciated the little story events in between days, and the animations that accompanied them!

I struggled a bit to fully understand the mechanics, and I think that's mostly because I'm not the type who can read the rules of a new card/board game and "get" it right away - I pretty much just have to learn by playing. So, that's probably more my personal experience than a fault of the mechanics themselves, which are super creative!

One thing I would like to see is something similar to the setting in Balatro where you can speed up the game's animations. Especially once players are more familiar with the game, it might feel a little cumbersome to wait several seconds for animations to finish after every hand.

All that said, great job on this entry! The vibes and theme were right on point.

Developer

thank you for your comment! you are 100% right, i think i was a bit lazy with the tutorial tbh and if i were to continue working on this i am going to completely redo that.

Good point on the animations etc., no need to show those every time.

Again, thanks a lot for taking the time to comment, and all the best!

Very interesting take on a one-player gambling card game!  Here are my notes as I played through the game

  • The intro text and tutorial are very long.  It might be better to not explain all the mechanics at the start so the player can get into the action sooner.
  • If I pickup a card I can't place it back into the same location with left click.
  • It's hard to tell the different multiply cards apart, maybe special artwork that shows their amount too
  • It would be nice to have click and drag as an option for cards too
  • After the post game upgrade screen, clicking on the [Click to continue] text box doesn't always continue.  Sometimes only part of it works, other times the whole box can't be clicked on.
  • An option to see the cards in your deck would be nice
  • Is the amount on each card random every time it's drawn?  I thought it would be constant.  I'm not sure the best way of communicating that, I found out when I got an offer for a rare multiplier card
  • I usually ended up risking all my cards on the first "risk it" and then just clicked risk it twice more after that.  Buying cards for crumbs seems inefficient since I want to save those for upgrades.

I did make it to the end, I had 24 biscuits left and 40 ish crumbs.  It was an interesting challenge to try and find the optimal strategy.  I really liked the upgrades, they seemed helpful and well thought out.  Thanks for making a fun game!

thank you so much for your feedback! most of your points i had written in my document already but i ended up not having enough time to imrpove, which teaches me i should prioritise making the existing features function before implementing new mechanics haha

the amounts are indeed random. i think i struggled a bit with the description of the cards, which left some aspects underexplained (in part due to me being your own tester i guess haha)

the other point you raise (such as the "risk it" function comment) really helped me understand some of the issues with the game as is. I really loved working on this, and if i ever do decide to make it into a full game these comments will be my first go to :).

Thanks and take care!
