Description
Standalone pieces of music. The first one tells the story of a little girl wandering around near the sea during a summer night and the second one represents her unexpected meeting with a magical koi carp in the sea.
I took most of the inspiration from the picture and the soundtrack of the animated movie Spirited Away and tried to evoke the feelings it gave me as much as possible, but struggled to manage the time available (the second track is kind of rushed and ends pretty soon).
I used FL Studio throughout all the project and i mainly used instruments from the BBC Symphony Orchestra Discover VST.

This is a really charming submission with a lot of great vibes, I love the transition from the slow piano to the bossa nova in One Summer Night. It felt like a fun journey on its own, and The Carp follows up on that nicely with the focus more on ambient pads and flutes. I think if I were to offer some advice, I'd suggest putting some more time into humanizing the piano. There's a ton of little things that add up over time like velocity changes, "strumming" the chords sometimes, walking around on the chords with the left hand, automating the tempo of the track, and generally sometimes taking away or adding notes/flourishes. Magnificent atmosphere overall, great work!
big thanks for your advice!
The ending of One Summer Night really picked up the excitement and I liked that! The downwards 3 step chords that happen every now and again are really interesting and add nice flavor to the track.
One Summer Night: Love the chord movement around 0:39. Very pretty. And then I wasn't expecting a shift into a bossa nova section! Very nice.
The Carp: I love the use of a ticking sound, very nice atmosphere. Sounds like an underwater theme.
Nice work!
first of all, I really liked what you did there musically. Your songs had a cool flow and gave a very gentle and pleasant feeling of lightness.
However mix wise I‘m a bit torn. The piano and some other instruments feel like they‘ve been low cut to aggressively so the feel hollowed out and missing much info below 500hz. This can be heard specifically in the first song. Second are some higher instrument, like also the Piano, flute and synth stabs that seem to be very strong in the 2Khz gange. This leads, specifically in the third song, to some shoutiness sound wise and gets overemphasized with multiple instruments that have the same effect.
Composition wise I really digged your songs, but sadly I do believe the mix doesn’t do it justice yet. Which doesn’t mean that it’s overly bad. Really would love to hear an improved version if this, gladly also with some feedback on Discord, if you want.
thanks for the feedback, every now and then i'm listening again to these pieces and definitely recognize the issues you pointed out. I will try my best to improve on this aspect
I actually really like the "rushed one", I think it would be super interesting in a very weird japanese animation movie like "Paprika" or something like that. The first one works as well, but is a bit more "expected" let's say. Nice job ! :)
Lovely soundtrack, I want more! Great job :)
Are you suuurrrrreee most of your inspiration was the picture and not the 2001 animated film Spirited Away?
erm...ahh...never heard of it! (I forgot to mention it lol, thanks for pointing it out)
Nice take, I actually listened to the 2nd track by accident without knowing it was the one you felt was rushed. Well I could not tell, I actually liked it. The pitch automation was an interesting touch that made the track more "wavy" and "bubbly" it increased the feeling of the theme imo. First track was super neat too, very nice chords, you should include a chart with the chord progression there is some very nice colour there. Good job ;)
I appreciate it! The 2nd track i'd say is rushed mainly because i would have preferred it to be longer with some other melodic sections (the second half turned out pretty cool but it was more of a fast and cheap way to make the track a bit longer).
If you're interested in the chord progression of the 1st track, it goes like this:
First theme:
AbM7 (the very first time in the piece it's a Cm7 instead)| Bbm7 - Am7 - E7 | Eb7 | Fm7
F# | B7 | Bbm7 | Eb7
Second theme (the bossa nova one):
FM7 | Gm7 | AbM7 | Eb
Dm7 | Am7 | GbM7/Bb | C7
The second time (before the first theme comes back again) the last 2 chords are Bbm7 | Eb7 instead
