Description
My soundtrack is "Quest For Purpose". It contains two songs and has a total runtime of 3:37.
If you don't want to download files, check the project page for embedded listening.
To create this soundtrack I used Ableton Live 11 with a mixture of stock and VST devices. I began my process by establishing chord progressions, followed by writing melodies before refining each layer and adding ambience.
If I don't know where to begin, I like to experiment with different synth presets. My go-to synths are Serum, Surge XT and Vital, all of which are used in this soundtrack.
The genre of my soundtrack is adventure, and would fit well in a story-driven 2D game such as a platformer. With the theme in mind, I tried to create a sense of nostalgia, reminiscent of summer nights during adolescence. To complement this feeling, I have included a vintage piano throughout the soundtrack, which to me sounds warm and sentimental.
The first song, "That Cloud Looks Like A Whale", has a calm and ambient vibe which would be suitable for a quiet moment in a game, like a peaceful cutscene during the end of a chapter.
The second song, "Quest For Purpose", is more rhythmic and upbeat. I intend for this track to evoke feelings of joy and affection on a late summer's night, a time when one may be discovering more about themselves and their purpose.

Great job creating the game’s atmosphere through your music!
I like this :D
The track "Quest For Purpose" reminds me of a few tracks by C418, especially after the snare kicks in!
Thank you for sharing; best of luck in the jam :)
thanks a lot, good luck to you as well!
Really cool atmosphere! I can see this being a really nice and chill indie platformer. I like submissions that do a lot of synth-stuff, and this one didn't let me down. Very nice!
I cannot for the life of me find an image of it but the title "That Cloud Looks Like A Whale" made me thing of the cloud that the fortune teller in Avatar the last airbender sees before saying that the village won't be destroyed by the volcano that year.
Because it looks like a whale.
hahahaha i've never seen avatar but that's a funny coincidence
I really like the vibe you created with these two tracks. They feel well connected, and I can also see how they would work nicely with your concept and in relation to the theme. The music also felt immersive, with some nice chord choices and synth sounds that bring a thoughtful mood. Great work!
Ty! :)
Nice synthy pieces, I like the groove. First track is very wide thats incredible with the lush pads. Good job !
Love the texture of the sounds and the warmth of the synth, really felt analog and close from home. I can picture myself looking at clouds in my grandmother yard and I think that was the goal, so well done !
that's so nice thank you
oh quest for purpose is a banger and its fading up and down arpeggiatos. nice work.
ty! i'm so glad you like it
I really like the bird sounds and the combination of synths in 'that cloud looks like a whale'. I think it could benefit from some added texture, maybe some filters fading in and out? I can hear some panning but longer form variation in the sound might help create the ambience you're looking for. 'Quest for purpose' has a good dance groove and solid melody. A tight bass line might make it even more groovy. The atmosphere and vibe between both tracks feel both nostalgic and determined which is pretty neat.
Thanks!
Nice work! I like the overall vibe of the songs, its a nice balance between emotional content and light-hearted youthful fun. Nice work!
Thank you!
